🔌 Teachers as Builders: Helping Teachers Quickly Create Solutions for Their Classrooms
In this week of Ed3: Unplugged, Serj Hunt and Scott Meyer discuss the role of AI in education and how it can help teachers become builders. We explore the four identities of a teacher, beginning with a reporter who regurgitates information and ending with a role model who competes with AI-powered chatbots that can teach students on their own. We then dive into tools for teachers to use AI to improve their classroom instruction. The first is Nolej.AI, which transcribes and summarizes classroom lectures, creating flashcards and definitions for students to review. The second, Save All AI, enables teachers to create and share flashcards on any subject with their students. Then we look at how AI could take note-taking to the next level, allowing students to capture ideas and conversations using microphones, which can then be shared and expanded upon. Ultimately, AI in the classroom can free up time for teachers to focus on the humanizing aspects of education, including coaching, social-emotional learning, and career development. Overall, this conversation provides insight into how AI can be used as a tool for teachers to enhance their instruction, and highlights the importance of bringing humanity back into the classroom. *** Subscribe for the best stuff from Ed3 and links to all the tools we mention: https://www.ed3.gg/ Watch the episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ed3gg Chapters of the episode: (0:00) Introduction (0:30) Discussion of the role of AI in education (2:00) The different stages of teacher identity (4:00) The importance of teachers becoming lifelong learners (5:30) Tools for teachers, including Save All and Knowledge AI (8:00) Bringing humanity into the classroom (10:00) Conclusion

The Power of a Personalized AI Tutor with Bloom
Personalized AI tutors can scale one-to-one tutoring. This new technology could boomerang education back to the Aristotelian model, not seen since the Industrial Age of education. In this conversation, I sit down with the founders of Bloom: https://bloombot.ai/ Bloom is an AI reading companion created by Courtland Leer, Thomas Howell, and Vince Trost. They are working to build the future of adaptive learning and education. We discuss the challenges associated with scaling one-to-one tutoring and the history of education, where the Aristotelian tutoring model was used for thousands of years before the industrial model of education was introduced. The team sees generative AI as a way to return to an individualized model of education that can offer quality instruction as a supplement to the current educational system. They believe that generative AI will be a radical shift enabling high-quality, personalized education for all, regardless of location or economic status. The team also discusses the importance of making education more enjoyable and social, with their tool - Bloom - being built around Discord, a social platform with roots in gaming. They believe the tool's ability to relate to the student's interests outside the classroom will make it more personable and enjoyable. Lastly, the team discusses the challenge of ensuring equal access to education. Still, they believe that generative AI and the drop in cost will grow the addressable market for tutoring, making it more affordable for all students.
