Jesus’ ministry is taking a turn ... toward Jerusalem, and anyone who wants to be a follower will need to “take up [their] cross” and follow him.  With each step toward “Jerusalem,” the cost of following gets more and more costly. That’s right... some things in life may be free, but discipleship is not one of them. Join hosts, Karin Peter and Blake Smith, for a closer look at this week’s passage from the Gospel of Mark (8:27-38). Before you pick up your cross... spend some time thinking about who Jesus is to you. Then, when the cross seems heavy, hopefully, you’ll know it was worth it.  Download TranscriptThanks for listening to Project Zion Podcast!Follow us on Facebook and Instagram!Intro and Outro music used with permission: “For Everyone Born,” Community of Christ Sings #285. Hopefully, followers of Jesus can say, without hesitation, that they believe in Jesus, but is that enough? The world is crazy, and we are faced with so much that can challenge or even scare us. In this episode of Coffee to Go, hosts Karin Peter and Blake Smith suggest that it is not enough to simply believe. What Jesus calls us to do is abide in him.  When we abide in him, we are transformed.  How we see the world and act in the world... the very course of our life... is forever changed.  Download TranscriptThanks for listening to Project Zion Podcast!Follow us on Facebook and Instagram!Intro and Outro music used with permission: “For Everyone Born,” Community of Christ Sings #285. Issues that threaten the very heart of what we hold dear in Community of Christ also work to divide us as a people committed to following Jesus Christ, the peaceful one. The worst thing we can do is give in to the temptation to stop talking, stop listening and go our own ways.  In this cross-post from Witness the Word, President Designate Stassi Cramm, shares a critical message in which she challenges the church to remain in the conversation ... to talk it out. It’s time to courageously challenge the very things that challenge our efforts to be agents of peace, reconciliation, and healing of the spirit. But I don’t want to eat his flesh and drink his blood. Do I really have to? Linda Stanbridge is no stranger to Project Zion Podcast. As an advocate for Harmony and the LGBTQIA+ community and as a minister of invitation, Linda has had lots of great things to share ... all of which have been laced with personal stories and passion.  But there’s more to Linda’s story. She is back again, but this time it’s all about her personal faith transition story ... a story of searching for and finding a community that offered “a God that she could love,” and that, because of the ordination of women (among other things), has created a place for her to express her giftedness and caring ministry... especially for the marginalized. Summertime comes with a vengeance this year across much of our world. Sustained high temperatures can have broad impact like damaging crops, illness or death for livestock, widespread power outages, and severe risk of wildfires. Several fires are blazing across the globe today. Sometimes our spiritual lives can feel scorched by heat, dried in the sun, or even singed by life’s occasional firestorm. Today’s Welcoming Prayer, first recorded in the 2020 Pandemic, will help you get in touch with your interior state of being, then gently walk you through the three parts of the Welcoming Prayer as you awaken to God’s renewing presence in your life. Find a quiet place, or pop in your earbuds wherever you are, to simply breathe and listen. What happens when we’re hungry for something, and it’s not what Jesus is serving? Many, if not all, have been in that place where we’re so hungry that, until we are fed physically, we can’t think about anything else...at least that’s what it feels like.
