051: The Birds’ Flight with Timothy Cummings
I've been so excited to publish this interview!  I'm sure anyone who's listened to previous episodes will be aware that I'm a big fan of Tim's arrangements, recordings, and compositions.  This album: The Birds' Flight, which launched in July of 2021 immediately became, (and has remained,) one of my most-constantly-on-rotation albums. Tim is, as ever, a delight to chat with.  If you enjoy this episode half as much as I did making it, you're in for a great time! Hop over to Tim's website to pickup a copy of the album: get it on BandCamp if that's more your jam:   (And don't forget - if you join the Patreon for DroningOn you'll be in the drawing for regular prizes, and this month that prize just so happens to be a copy of the album in question!)   Have a look at Tim's companions in bringing this album to fruition: Brad Kolodner: Sutherland:   Here is a link to the Wetootwaag episodes I mention about Cape Breton Piping & the Mixtape Episode where I first heard Strathspey on fiddle:   And here's a link to Pete's, "Pioneer Children / Ye Ke Ke" well as Pete's, "Rebuttle," to the origin-story for this album:   Tune into this episode to hear James illadvisedly ramble on about Tolkienish mythos in relation to tunes on the album... - We're on Facebook: can write-in to the show with comments, ideas, requests, etc. at TheDroningOnPodcast@gmail.com - Support the show via Patreon (patreon.com/DroningOnPodcast), or by buying cool stuff at BagpipeSWAG.com  -   -   -  And now, some keywords:  Bagpipes, bagpipe, bag, pipe, pipes, pipe, band, pipeband, Scottish, drone, droning, chanter, dance, highland, fling, reel, strathspey, jig, appalachia, appalachian, trans-atlantic, album, music, folk music, trad music

049: Pay the Pipemaker with Jeremy Kingsbury of Wetootwaag’s Bagpipe & History Podcast
Jeremy previously visited the show in episode #34 to talk about his piping-podcast, "Wetootwaag's Bagpipe and History Podcast" ( he's back to talk about a really excellent album he recently put-out, "Pay the Pipemaker," full of tunes from the past & a truly face-melting original on Highland Pipes, Uilleann Pipes, Border Pipes, Whistles, Jaw Harps... and more, I'm pretty sure.  And note: this month's Droning On Patreon givEaway is a physical copy of this album - so get on over onto Patreon to have your name added to the metaphorical hat! Check out the album here: the conversation we reference a few recent episodes from Jeremy's podcast.  Here are links to get straight to them. Regarding bagpipe myths & history, long forwards from tune collectors, etc: Cape Breton piping, with Barry Shears: pushing the range of a GHB chanter up to get high-B, high-C and even more: into this episode to hear Jeremy reveal the secret to getting into piobaireachd, "...get [yourself] into a compromised state..." - We're on Facebook: and Instagram (@droning.on.podcast) - You can write-in to the show with comments, ideas, requests, etc. at TheDroningOnPodcast@gmail.com - Support the show via Patreon, (patreon.com/DroningOnPodcast) or by buying cool stuff at BagpipeSWAG.com  -   -   -  And now, some keywords:  Bagpipes, bagpipe, bag, pipe, pipes, pipe, band, pipeband, alubm, trad, tradmusic, music, folk, folkmusic, historical, history, borderpipes, border, smallpipes, small, uilleannpipes, uilleann

044: Wexford Carol and Yuletide Tacos with Erin
'tis the season of pine trees, falling snow, and Christmas Hams... unless you're Erin, in which case 'tis the season of giant avocado trees, falling avocados from said trees, and Christmas chips & salsa. Tune into this episode to hear more about delicious rattlesnacks than you'd expected as well as some great, "history," regarding mandolins, bagpipes, mexican food, and more - including a very cool tune, "The Wexford Carol". Happy end-of-year to you all, dear friends!   Here's the cool Molly in the Mineshaft album we talked about, from which we pulled the rendition of Wexford Carol heard in this episode:   Here's the album on which Erin collaborated with me for that rendition of, "Shalom," featured in this episode (it's track #12):   Here's the awesome Christmas Tune collection we mentioned, by Timothy Cummings: last year's Christmassy episode where Tim was interviewed, (and may I just suggest all the other December episodes with my dear friends, they were super fun and worth a re-visit):   Here's an awesome YouTube video of Evan Marshall playing a mandolin solo that sounds like a duet... or more...:   Here's the Lambchop Christmas Special:   And if Erin happens to find that obscure Christmas Acoustic Guitar album, I promise to paste a link here:   - We're on Facebook! can write-in to the show with ideas, requests, etc. at TheDroningOnPodcast@gmail.com - Support the show via Patreon, or by buying cool stuff at BagpipeSWAG  -   -   -  And now, some keywords:  Bagpipes, bagpipe, bag, pipe, pipes, pipe, band, pipeband, drums, bass, tenor, snare, Scottish, festival, Highland, games, WUSPBA, drone, droning, chanter, yule, yuletide, christmas, hoilday, advent, mandolin, herping
