CPI Podcast Ep. 37 - Hervin Thomas: Property Investing success from $0
If ever there was a survivor or "overcomer" story this is it! Episode 23 with Kieran brought a number of listeners to tears but this one potentially can redefine our definition of struggle and humble beginnings. Raised by his grandmother, Hervin Thomas, a self proclaimed "praying man" had to fend for himself growing up. Scarce resources in the household would force him to learn how to make and sell what we call "paimie" in St. Lucia, "conkies" in Barbados and "blue draws" in Jamaica. A sustained blow to his pride would see him approaching neighbors and the public to offer this sweet Caribbean delicacy made from coconut,  cornmeal and pumpkin as his primary means of earning income as a teenager. That still was not adequate to help him achieve regular attendance at school, often forcing him to miss classes every other week  in search of odd jobs. This struggle would continue throughout high school forcing him to miss his final (CXC) exams because of the inability to pay for the entrance fees.Learn how he would teach himself how to read and write, find regular work and even capitalize on a gap in his former employer's service which would lead to him ultimately leaving and starting his own business. Track his creative journey in property investing and exactly what it took for him to secure his property portfolio and how he leveraged his core competencies to achieve economic independence and current success despite starting from "less than $0".

CPI Podcast Ep. 31 - Robert Taylor: Build a Luxury vacation rental Business from the ground up!
Raised in an entrepreneurial family, Robert Taylor was determined to save for that famous "10% deposit" needed to purchase his first piece of land. Being a full-time musician of 20+ years  it took a little time, but with sacrifice and persistence he was able to secure a mortgage and  acquire his piece of St. Lucia. With 'approved' plans, the intention was always to build a house in the tourism belt that could serve a dual purpose; house his family and earn rental income. These plans would never materialize - well at least not on that lot. Find out how a Sunday walk with his daughter would lead him down a different property path and ultimately birth, the now famous luxury short-term rental "Villa Zatara!" As a creative he could always envision the finished product. Hear the hurdles he had to clear and get amazing insight into how you too can build a luxury vacation rental business with what banks may consider an "unstable" or "irregular" income.  Finally with the onset of the pandemic; flight cancellations and global lockdowns, how did the vacation rental sector survive? As its first P.R.O., get a clear understanding of the objectives of the Vacation Rental Association of St. Lucia, how the industry is coping with the "new normal",  the legacy of these unprecedented challenges; the impact for years to come and what Property investors need to do to achieve continued success.

CPI Podcast Ep. 28 - Tryce Loctar-Polius: The role of a Quantity Surveyor
The successful completion of a Masters Degree in Construction Law, Arbitration and Adjudication in July 2019 simply to broaden her mastery of her profession, is only the latest in a series of qualifications Tryce Loctar-Polis would have racked up over the last two decades. Always a very determined and confident young woman, she was pushed into the world of work a few years removed from high school by her first mentor, her father - a heavy equipment operator, who felt she needed real hands-on experience and arranged for her to do a stint with a local architectural firm. From a very early age she knew that she wanted to become an Architect or an "Estimator" partly also because her uncles as well were in the construction field. This would lead her to  pursue a tertiary level course at the local community college then to UTECH (Formerly CAST) Jamaica for a Diploma in Engineering, then 10 years with the Housing & Urban Development Corporation (HUDC), a First Class Honors Bachelors Degree in Quantity Surveying with London Southbank University and eventually settling to work regionally with CO Williams as a Quantity Surveyor!Currently Tryce is the President of the Institute of Surveyors St. Lucia Inc. With such a wealth of experience and exposure, hear her perspective on the importance of her profession in the building process and what prospective home owners, property investors and developers MUST know to get the best return on money investment and minimize or avoid catastrophic project outcomes.
