In this episode Millie and Olivia chat to Carolyn Costin.  They discuss the Healthy Self/Eating Disorder Self concept, the importance of exploring what needs your eating disorder is meeting, and some useful tips for assisting in the integration of the two selves.Carolyn is a world renowned eating disorder clinician, author, and international speaker. Recovered from anorexia in her twenties, as a young therapist Carolyn recognised her calling after successfully treating her first eating disorder client. Carolyn was first to publicly take the position that people with eating disorders can become fully recovered.After 15 years in private practice and running hospital programs, Carolyn was determined to improve the relapse rate and recognised a gap in the eating disorder field. She opened Monte Nido - the first residential facility in a home setting, surrounded by nature, where evidenced based treatment was combined with alternative therapies such as meditation and yoga and clients were “retrained” to shop for, prepare and cook food. Carolyn’s contributions to the field are extensive. Her six books, service in every major eating disorder organisation, three decades of training professionals worldwide, free study groups and the outstanding success of Monte Nido all spurred Carolyn to international acclaim.In 2016 Carolyn left Monte Nido and created The Carolyn Costin Institute. Ariana Elias: Innovative Approaches to Eating Disorder Treatment
In this episode Millie and Olivia chat to Ariana Elias.Ariana is a clinical psychologist and credentialed Eating Disorder Practitioner.Since commencing clinical practice in 2002 Ariana Elias has worked within the field of body image and eating disorders in a variety of community and specialist services, in both the public and private sector. In 2015 Ariana developed Raising Body Confident Kids - a body image prevention program for parents and primary school aged children. Since then she has worked with thousands of children and their parents in school and community settings focused on reducing the risk of the development of body dissatisfaction. Since 2019 Ariana has served as Chair of the Private Practice Significant Interest Group for the Australia & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders. In 2021 Ariana founded Tikvah Clinic with the hope of creating a specialised eating disorder multidisciplinary outpatient clinic. Tikvah Clinic provides patients and their families supportive, holistic, individualised and innovative treatments.     Ariana is a trauma informed therapist and has completed clinical training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT, CBT-E), Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM), Family Based Treatment (FBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). In 2023 Ariana completed her training with the Ketamine Training Centre and offers Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) to individuals with difficult to treat depression and eating disorders. In this episode Millie and Olivia chat to Carolyn Costin.  They discuss the stages of change, how to navigate ambivalence in recovery, Carolyn’s Ten Phases of Eating Disorder Recovery and the importance of holding onto hope.Carolyn is a world renowned eating disorder clinician, author, and international speaker. Recovered from anorexia in her twenties, as a young therapist Carolyn recognised her calling after successfully treating her first eating disorder client. Carolyn was first to publicly take the position that people with eating disorders can become fully recovered.After 15 years in private practice and running hospital programs, Carolyn was determined to improve the relapse rate and recognised a gap in the eating disorder field. She opened Monte Nido - the first residential facility in a home setting, surrounded by nature, where evidenced based treatment was combined with alternative therapies such as meditation and yoga and clients were “retrained” to shop for, prepare and cook food. Carolyn’s contributions to the field are extensive. Her six books, service in every major eating disorder organisation, three decades of training professionals worldwide, free study groups and the outstanding success of Monte Nido all spurred Carolyn to international acclaim.In 2016 Carolyn left Monte Nido and created The Carolyn Costin Institute. In this episode Millie and Olivia chat to Georgia Houston.Georgia is the Director and an Accredited Practising Dietitian at Her Matters.As someone who struggled with an eating disorder in her late-teens, Georgia knows firsthand the important role health professionals play in recovery.
