Are older Americans receiving cancer screenings they may not need? | Engage Episode 4
You probably know about the importance of cancer screening, but did you know that some people might be receiving cancer screenings unnecessarily? In this episode, Dr. Jennifer Moss discusses her research into the cancer screening rates of older Americans. The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force publishes recommendations for medical tests, including cancer screenings. These recommendations include things like age and other health conditions. People who receive tests outside the recommendations may not need to be screened, a situation called overscreening. Dr. Moss recently reported results of a research study looking at cancer screenings by analyzing a National Center for Disease Control database. Engage is a podcast of Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute. In each episode, you will learn about the research process and how Penn State is helping to improve the health of our neighbors and communities.
