Our Editor's Take

Luke Dunkin's Low Budget Live is a podcast that focuses on three things many people may love—fishing, hunting, and music. The program is both fun and informative. It lets listeners learn a great deal about the culture of the Southern US.

Podcast host Luke Dunkin has a strong presence on social media, primarily on YouTube. His fans have begun to dub themselves "Low Lifers," though this is a term of endearment in this instance. From 2015 to 2019, Dunkin fished as a pro on the Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) Tour. He won almost $100,000 in prize money.

Besides fishing, the podcast host is also a songwriter. In addition, Dunkin is the regional sales manager at a fishing-related company. This business sells maritime and fishing supplies in the greater Huntsville, Alabama, area.

Dunkin brings much experience to bear here in his role as host. He knows how popular bass fishing is in the US and across the globe. Growing up in the Southeastern US, he spent much of his youth hunting and fishing. Dunkin's time spent as a tour guide and expert helps inform much of this podcast's content. He also is able to explain things for a newcomer to follow with ease. In many instances, Dunkin wants to see this community grow and considers this podcast as a form of outreach work.

Dunkin interviews friends on his show, many of whom are fishing experts in their own right. Bassmaster Elite Series 2023 AOY Kyle Welcher has been a previous guest on the podcast. Elite Series Pro Justin Atkins also appears in a prior episode. Their insights will likely be helpful to anglers of all experience levels.

New episodes of Luke Dunkin's Low Budget Live air on Monday of each week. Most episodes are between one and two hours.
