The Read

Loud Speakers Network

Join bloggers Kid Fury and Crissle for their weekly podcast covering hip-hop and pop culture's most trying stars. Throwing shade and spilling tea with a flippant and humorous attitude, no star is safe from Fury and Crissle unless their name is Beyoncé. (Or Blue Ivy.) As transplants to New York City (Kid Fury from Miami and Crissle from Oklahoma City), The Read also serves as an on-air therapy session for two friends trying to adjust to life (and rats) in the big city. The Read is part of the LoudSpeakers Network and is published every week on iTunes, iHeart Radio Talk, Soundcloud & Stitcher. read less

Our Editor's Take

The Read is a podcast different from others in the pop culture space. That's because the hosts, Kid Fury and Crissle West, are not here to be nice. For listeners, it's quite entertaining. But the celebrities they discuss should prepare themselves for the criticism. These two hosts love sharing their unsolicited opinions. And they have no intention of restraining themselves.

Each episode focuses on five different segments. One celebrates Black excellence. Then the pair delivers the entertainment news of the week. Next, Fury tries (and often fails) to report on sports. West's specialty in her segment is sharing advice she picks up during therapy sessions. The highlight, however, is the final segment. That's where Kid and Crissle get ready to share their thoughts. And they do it in a blunt and hilarious style.

In many ways, The Read is an extension of Fury's original YouTube vlog. On Furious Thoughts, he shared his raw and funny opinions of pop culture and his personal life. When he met comedian and writer Crissle West in 2011, they shared a connection right away. Two years later, The Read podcast was born.

Since then, The Read has captivated millions of listeners all over the world. Slate magazine even included the pod on their “Best 25 Podcasts of All Time” list. New episodes arrive every week.
