Jess Cleland - Feeling valued, Africa is 54 countries not 1, the power of travel, self-exploration, working with people that care. Empathy demonstrated in the most meaningful way.
Jess is an amazing ambassador for empathy. Having travelled across much of the world she has a unique take on culture, people, business, and life itself.Jess is no stranger to tragedy, and it would have been understandable if she had decided to curl up in a ball and retreat into herself. In fact, just the opposite, Jess has taken life and embraced all that is on offer including cycling 3000km across West Africa and travelling to 118 countries *(at the date of recording that is)! I think you can tell just how much the conversation with Jess meant to me. I hope you can feel the strength and passion in Jess's voice, and I'd recommend you all watch out for what Jess does next!Having spent several years as COO: Africa at Broll Property Group, where she managed all Broll’s African businesses across the continent, Jess now focuses her role on developing strategy, research and analytics. The aim is to leverage the power of data and analytics to transform the way real estate is managed and understood in Africa. Prior to this, Jess held roles as Director of Strategy & Consulting at Broll, and Research Director at MSCI where she worked in London, Melbourne and Johannesburg.Jess holds an MBA majoring in International Business, a Master of Property, a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering, and is weeks away from completing a Masters in Data Science Strategy & Leadership. She was an API Award for Women in African Real Estate finalist in both 2020 and 2021, and in 2018 won Professional of the Year – Private Sector (Gauteng) at the SA Women in Property Awards. Jess is a Fellow of the Mauritius Institute of Directors, Certified Business Advisor from the Institute of Business Advisors of Southern Africa, and has served extensively on industry boards and advisory panels including RICS, Corenet Global, Women’s Property Network and several major universities.Outside of work, Jess’s ambition is to travel to every country (118 countries reached to date), and in her spare time she creates, organises and completes cycling fundraising challenges to support animal rescue charities. Please reach out and let me know what you think, who you'd like to hear from and how I can help empathy be a bigger part of everyone's life:info@empathyunbound.comempathyunbound.com
