Jesus takes on the Rich Ruler Episode 8
Welcome to Respecting the Word Podcast.  Where the goal is respecting the Bible and its context and apply it Biblically to our lives. Scripture dictates scripture and God is soverign over all of creation. My faith is in Jesus and him alone and not myself. I’m your host Donnie. So this podcast episode we will reading the “ Young Rich Ruler” to see again how Jesus witness to people. I will try to break down scripture so we can dig into the context. So lets begin with: Mark 10:17-31 “As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. I kind of wonder when the man meant when he said “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Did he really believe he could “do” something to save himself like good works like keeping the law or giving money.  He did think he was doing good by keeping the law because that is what is taught in the Jewish tradition. The problem with Jewish law isn’t the ten commandments so much which can be but the jewish traditions they piled on top of God’s law. They had levitical law which was like a social law for the jews but that wasn’t enough for them. So a thought I have is this about the word“do” he mentions. Is he really talking about a “doing something” to gain salvation actually or is like a do repentance kind of thing? We can go either way with this.  Anyways So to get to another point in this conversation is also where Jesus is showing us to help prove to someone that they aren’t good themselves by giving all the glory to God. Everyone is good in their own eyes. Go to a prison and ask anyone and almost all will say they are a good person but Jesus puts us in our place. So the next verse Jesus shows him even more even though he lied by saying he kept the law but Jesus knew the right sin to pin him down.  “You know the commandments, ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’ ” And he said to Him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.” Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property. A lot of people will say they quit something from their past but don’t realize when they quit sin from their youth they are still guilty. A rapist can say I quit raping when I was younger so I’m no longer a rapist to a judge and the judge will still send them to prison. So this man loves the things of this world. He went away sad because the law shuts the mouth of anyone who thinks they are holy. We really don’t know the outcome of his soul. Going away sad is a possible good sign though. Jesus did say he loved him and Jesus loves his sheep dearly. The ones you love you would save and tell them the truth and the truth will set you free. He wasn’t happy about what he had to “do”.So the law to the proud and grace to humble. The law shuts the mouth and brings the whole world guilty before a holy God. So have you been born again? How will stand before a holy God on judgement day? Have you repented of your sin? Have you lied, stolen, hated and lusted after someone? If you have you need to repent and put your faith in Christ to save you on judgment day.  So on that note go serve our God. Repentance or other ways to Jesus Episode 5
Repent1 Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—Welcome to Respecting the Word podcast Where we are careful with how we use the Bible and we try to put the word into action in our life. So my first podcast was the Gospel as the foundation of this podcast so I want to take pieces of it for subject matter and bring it all together at the end. So last episode we talked about the Biblical free will and why Jesus. We saw our wickedness of our sin in us through a little history in the Bible and in the world today. Some don’t believe in original sin but don’t have any scripture to back that view up but with the Bible we do and even outside the Bible we see evidence of it from infants to adults. Side note I don’t believe children will go to hell. The Bible says we need to be like a child to enter the kingdom. So I started with Romans 5:12 for intro verse into the podcast and is the verse that proves we are all born into sin. It doesn’t say “except babies” in it. Some don’t see babies as sinners but a baby is very sinful in a small level and that sin continues to grow more and more where by the time they are 4 years old they are a master at lying. A young child can steal at a store and think nothing about it. This just proves Romans 5:12 is and we can’t hide from it and at one point we will have to face God on judgment day one way or another. So now we can see ourselves as sinners from a personal level and how sinful our society is and Romans 5:12 makes more sense. So lets go back over the law.Ever lied ever stolenEver lustedEver Hated.Ever dishonored parentsDo you love God with all your heart mind soul 365 days a years?? If you are guilty of breaking just one those you are guilty of breaking them all and you need to repent and that is the topic for this podcast. Repenting feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin and this definition missed the mark of of turning from that sin and putting your faith in Christ. Why do we need to repent? Jesus started off his ministry telling everyone to repent Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Then facing some people he told them also Luke 13:5 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” Jesus hates sin and no person who is dead in sin will be in heaven only people who have repented and believed in the Lord Jesus. The number attribute of God is holiness. Everyone seems to believe is love is his #1 attribute but you don’t read in Revelation 4:8 Love love love and it reads And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within, and day and night they do not cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come.” The world says love love love but it is a selfish love they have and not a godly love. God is also love and saves who ever repents and believes in him. The world doesn’t love God. They love the world.Luke 15:7 I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.See even the angels celebrate when one person repents. They won’t celebrate when someone does good works or is baptized or keeps God’s law. They already know we can’t keep it. 2nd Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world brings about death. So the law brings death and repentance and faith in Christ leads to Life in Christ. So what will you do or what will a friend and family member do? Judgment day is coming. Heaven or Hell when you Die Episode 1
Welcome to the Respecting the Word podcast. For my first podcast I will start with the Gospel. So lets get started by evaluating ourselves to see if are really saved or not.Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell? Also to the ones who don’t believe in either where will you go heaven or hell? Are you a good enough person to get into heaven? Will your good out weight your bad? To the ones who call themselves Christian did you go to church enough or also were you a good person also the same as the world believes on how you get to heaven? How about the ones who been baptized in water as your claim to fame in Christ? Are you 100% sure you will go to heaven or hell? Lets take a look at how you will stand before a Holy God. He will judge you when you die or when this world ends in the last day. Lets go over the commandments of God to see where you stand. Its like going before a good judge in a court room and we are gathering the evidence to prove your guilty or innocent. So theses questions deal with your past even before you stopped doing them and got older and you learn not to do them.So first question.Have you ever told a lie? White lies or big lies it doesn’t matter. Even lying for a good reason is still a lie. What does that make you when you tell lies?? A Liar perhaps? Have you ever stolen?? even something small like a pen or gum? What does that make you? A thiefHave you ever hated someone? Jesus said if you hate someone it is murder within the heart.Have you dishonored your parents? Have you ever lusted after someone? Jesus said if you lust after someone it is adultery within the heart. Sexual desires is what Jesus is talking about. That’s 5 commandments you have broken but someone will still claim they are Christian after committing those sins. So here comes the big sin that we are all guilty of breaking.Have you loved God with all your heart mind and soul 365 days a year? People forget about that one and focus on the others more but still live in sin and claim they love God with all their heart. Evidence proves different. We will know you by your fruit. None of us can keep that one so we are all condemned. So you all admitted (not all of you) that you lied and Revelations 21:8 all liars will be in the lake of fire along with cowardly, and unbelieving, abominable, murders, sexual immoral, sorcerers and idolaters. You admitted you stolen, murder someone within the heart, Some of you may have physically murdered, adulterer at heart or committed the physical act of adultery. So how do you stand before a Holy God on judgment day? Some will say you don’t believe in that but still how would you stand? Heaven or hell? Something to think about. So some will ask what you must do to escape hell and its more then just hell it’s God’s wrath you will face. Your conscience is awaken to your disease of sin and that wasn’t even all the commandments. You have 5 more you are guilty of. Just breaking one makes you guilty of breaking them all just like holding onto a chain. One link breaks and you fall. So what must you do?? Repent of your sins and put your faith in Christ. Repent means to turn from your life of sin. Jesus is the perfect sacrifice that died on the cross for your sin. He was beaten with a whip tearing off his skin. He did nothing wrong. He didn’t speak bad of anyone during the whole beating he took while being hung from the cross barely able to breath. He is the perfect lamb taken and slaughter. He was buried and raised from the dead in three days. He defeated death. On the cross the he it is finished right before he breath his last breath. How odd to say something like that. If that was us we would of said some bad things to those guards and the local citizens.
