Our Editor's Take

The Worst Idea Of All Time is a hilarious film review podcast with a difference. Comedians Guy Montgomery and Tim Batt started by reviewing the Adam Sandler film Grown Ups 2. They challenged themselves to watch it every week for a year. It's a challenge they refer to as idiotic, but it's led to an international fanbase of millions.

As well as performing stand-up, Tim is a writer, producer, and creator of the Little Empire podcast. Guy is an award-winning stand-up and improviser. As the podcast unfolds, listeners can enjoy an entertaining insight into their friendship.

Due to the first season's popularity, Guy and Tim followed up by watching Sex and The City 2 weekly for a year. They then reviewed We Are Your Friends and Sex and the City. During the pandemic in New Zealand, the pair watched Home Alone 3 every three days. Their ridiculous podcast quests have created an engaged community of fans.

The sixth season involves the Fast and The Furious film franchise. Guy and Tim watch the entire collection in reverse order for the year. The number of times they watch it depends on where it comes in the series. So, they will start by watching F9 nine times, followed by The Fate of the Furious eight times. The season starts with them describing the film's setting. According to the pair, it's over two hours long, many people are in it, and a lot of stuff happens. Spoiler alert-they travel to space! The pair already find issues with the script, but the obliteration of one car excites them from the start.

As well as weekly reviews, there are special "Friendzone" episodes. These are one-off episodes where they read messages from their community. There are also "Family Time" episodes in which they talk about their families and lives. Special guests include comedians Paul F. Tompkins and Patti Harrison.

The Worst Idea Of All Time delivers award-winning film commentary from two Kiwi comedians. It offers a dose of escapism for movie fans or listeners who want silly, light-hearted humor every week.
