Armando Bacot finished 3-10 and RJ Davis 3-15 as North Carolina lost at home for the first time this season, 65-64 to Pittsburgh. Caleb Love was the only Tar Heel to make multiple threes as Hubert Davis didn’t get the toughness he wanted out of his time for a sustained period of time. The 2023 McDonald’s All-American rosters were announced last week. Noticeably missing from the men’s group of 24 is Carolina commit Simeon Wilcher. There are five weeks left in the college basketball season, and North Carolina is exactly halfway through their ACC slate of games. The week ahead is of extreme importance for Armando Bacot, Caleb Love, and company. North Carolina picks up their second true road win of the season at Syracuse thanks to a Pete Nance putback in the final minute of the game. UNC led the majority of the game, but Syracuse took a lead late on a Joe Girard three-pointer and looked as if the Orange might do enough to win at home. Nance led all scorers with 21 points and also had four steals, but most importantly played the pivotal role of facilitator against Syracuse’s zone. To wit – Carolina finishes with 20 assists on 26 made baskets, a season high 76.9%. Caleb Love might be coming out of his shooting slump as he started the game 3-3 from deep, not to mention managed the game well and made good decisions. RJ Davis got really beat up in this game including drawing an offensive foul on Judah Mintz in the final minute that sent him to the locker room. North Carolina’s frontcourt of Armando Bacot, Pete Nance, and Jalen Washington has seemingly battled injuries all season long.
