Heather, RD, MHA, has recently completed a research study about weight stigma within the health system and how dieticians can advocate for the reduction of this harmful stigma. Many people living with mental health challenges, Laurie included, have experienced discrimination due to their size when trying to access care. Criminal justice reform for the mentally ill is needed now (feat. Danielle)

Criminal justice reform for the mentally ill is needed now (feat. Danielle)
Danielle is a regular Super Feeler who suddenly disappeared for 9 months. We were worried about her safety, having no success at reaching out. Until 9 months later when Laurie got a DM on instagram saying "if you ever want to record an episode about what it's like to have BPD in jail let me know". And so this episode was obviously recorded asap. In this episode Danielle bravely shares her story of what it was like to go through the criminal justice system with borderline personality disorder. She shares about the lack of medical autonomy and privacy she faced and how she started running mini DBT classes in jail to support others like her. (aka Super Feelers: Incarcerated Edition). This episode has a number of triggers including: medical harm, systemic discrimination, overdose, and solitary confinement. Also please excuse the issues with audio quality - Laurie was on vacation and turns out her internet was really bad...  *** quick fact checking note: around the 19 minute mark Danielle says she's talking about the 14th amendment but it's actually the 13th amendment. Sorry about that!Support the showYou can find Laurie and Sara on Instagram to follow their day to day lives even further @laurieanned and @saraswellnessway. BPD research and how it impacts our care (feat. Dr. Skye Fitzpatrick)
Dr. Skye Fitzpatrick is a BPD researcher and the TULiP Lab Director at York University. Her current research interests focus on the examination of emotion processes in the treatment of borderline personality disorder (BPD) and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and identifying ways to streamline and refine concurrent treatments for these challenges. In this episode Skye and Laurie discuss the importance of research from an academic, clinical and lived experience perspective. They discuss the importance of peer support, reducing the current challenges with gatekeeping within BPD care, and how intersectionality and stigma impact research and the lives of people with BPD. To learn more about how to get involved in studies the TULiP Lab is running click hereTo learn more about the Couple HOPES app click hereSupport the showYou can find Laurie and Sara on Instagram to follow their day to day lives even further @laurieanned and @saraswellnessway. The Future - Individual Biomarkers for Individual Mental Healthcare (feat. Dr. Evelyn Higgins)

The Future - Individual Biomarkers for Individual Mental Healthcare (feat. Dr. Evelyn Higgins)
Our mental healthcare needs to be personalized to us and our specific biology. Today, Sara and Dr. Evelyn Higgins talk about the work she's doing to make that happen. Wired For Addiction provides an individually tested biomarker 31-page report that hopes to negate the often ineffective and dangerous “try-it-out” phase of medications by isolating the individual’s specific genes and the associated interaction with the drugs and drug types listed in the report.  In matters of health, life, and death, empirical evidence should not be the standard of care. These are their beliefs as a company. Sara and Evelyn talk what, why, and how on individual genetic mental healthcare.
