Our Editor's Take

Ghost Tape is a haunting and fictional audio drama told in eight intriguing episodes. It begins with a conversation between an army psychiatrist and the main protagonist. Tessa Dixon is a private in the United States Army and lives in Texas. There's an undertone of mysterious music to help set the scene for this sci-fi story.

Tessa's bold personality is evident on Ghost Tape as soon as she begins talking. She's outspoken and likes to make jokes with those around her. For some reason, she is in handcuffs. She assures the psychiatrist that she will "play nice." He then asks Tessa why she chose to enlist. Her whole family was veterans. Why she enrolled should be obvious. Tessa reveals that her grandfather's death caused her to sign up.

The podcast episode then transports listeners to the funeral, where Tessa speaks about her grandfather. She shares stories of their relationship before disputing the circumstances around his death. Some believe it was a suicide caused by PTSD. Tessa claims it was murder. This is when she decides to unravel the truth about his death.

Each episode of this fiction podcast reveals more of this mysterious story. Tessa discovers a tape, thought to have been from her grandfather's time in Vietnam. She talks about how she believes the tape chose her and how it took hold of her. Is it haunted? When she starts listening to it, hidden inside a closet, Tessa can hear screaming, gunshots, and chaos. She then hears her grandfather telling her to keep the tape a secret. What is the tape hiding? And what will it reveal about his death?

The cocreators of the Ghost Tape podcast are Aron Eli Coleite, behind Locke & Key, and Nia DaCosta. As a horror genre fan, Nia also directed the 2021 Candyman sequel, written by Jordan Peele. An exciting cast of voice actors combine to tell this intriguing tale. Kiersey Clemon, star of Dope and The Flash, voices Tessa. Bill Dixon, known for films like Predator, the voice of her grandfather. It makes for a frightening yet entertaining show.
