Launched in 2017 by podcast hosts and friends Em Schulz and Christine Schiefer, And That's Why We Drink injects a hefty dose of humor, a touch of sarcasm, and a love for pop culture into each episode. The start of every episode is marked by the spooky sounds of a haunted piano, the clanking of wine glasses, and a dog barking.

Listeners are then launched into a paranormal segment led by Schulz, addressing everything from ghosts and their haunting grounds to alien abductions and conspiracy theories. Internet-heightened horror legends (also known as creepypastas) are often shared in the paranormal segments. Each episode's second half is dedicated to Schiefer's sinister retelling of true crime events, interspersed with personal anecdotes and funny happenings from the hosts' own lives.

While most episodes range from 1.5 to 2 hours, each month, a shorter episode is released called “Listener Stories.” Schulz and Schiefer announce a theme and then accept true crime and paranormal story submissions.
