Something You Need to Do Now with Meredith Flint Sowers Koen | Episode 198
Most people go through life almost on autopilot, especially when things are going well. We cruise through life and it can be hard to imagine life any other way. However, life can take a sudden left turn when tragedy or the unthinkable happens and our entire world is thrown into crisis. It can be hard to even know how to recover or figure out the next steps. That is what this episode is all about: preparing for the unthinkable. This is something that my guest, Meredith Flint Sowers Koen, knows about all too well. Meredith has owned and operated Flip-Flop Gymnastics in her hometown of Rolla, Missouri since 2004. But tragically in 2009, her life changed in an instant when her husband, Seth, was in a car accident that left him immobile and nonverbal due to a traumatic brain injury.Today, Meredith uses her experience to help others avoid the pitfalls of putting emergency planning on the back burner. Most importantly, she wants to show others the kind of love Christ has blessed her with as she navigates those twists and turns of life.In this episode, we talk about:How a normal August day took an unexpected turnThe age you should begin estate planningHelpful topics to discuss with your loved onesAnd so much more!I hope this conversation helps open your eyes to the importance of planning, even for the worst.Find resources mentioned and more on the show notes: https://jillsavage.org/meredith-koen-198Register for the Empty Nest Full Life Retreat September 27-29, 2024Check out our other resources: Mark and Jill’s Marriage StoryMarriage CoachingMarriage 2.0 IntensivesSpeaking ScheduleBook Mark and Jill to SpeakOnline CoursesBooks Marriage Resources: Infidelity RecoveryFor Happy MarriagesFor Hurting MarriagesFor Marriages Where You’re the Only One Wanting to Get Help Mom Resources: New/Preschool MomsMoms with GradeschoolersMoms with Teens and TweensMoms with Kids Who Are LaunchingEmpty Nest...

The Elements of Transformation | Episode 197
Mark is back with me on the podcast today to help answer a question we hear often: “What makes the difference in people who are able to overcome difficult things?" This could be in regard to marriages that are restored or lives that experience growth and transformation. Are there elements that make transformation more possible? In our coaching, we’ve seen some couples turn their entire relationship around for the better while others just can’t seem to find common ground to make progress. While some failures can be traced back to one spouse expecting the other to do all the work or an unrepentant heart, we’ve found there are several elements that can drastically improve the likelihood of successfully transforming relationships, personal growth, and life circumstances. In this episode, we talk about:The common elements of transformationThe role surrender has in the process of changeThe proper place for our emotionsAnd more!I hope you enjoy our conversation!Show Notes: https://jillsavage.org/elements-transformation-197Check out our other resources: Mark and Jill’s Marriage StoryMarriage CoachingMarriage 2.0 IntensivesSpeaking ScheduleBook Mark and Jill to SpeakOnline CoursesBooks Marriage Resources: Infidelity RecoveryFor Happy MarriagesFor Hurting MarriagesFor Marriages Where You’re the Only One Wanting to Get Help Mom Resources: New/Preschool MomsMoms with GradeschoolersMoms with Teens and TweensMoms with Kids Who Are LaunchingEmpty Nest...

Becoming Unoffendable with Brant Hansen | Episode 196
What do you do when you are offended? Do you quickly let it go, or do you sit and ruminate on it? If you, like most people, tend to do the latter, it can create bitterness, resentment, and pent-up anger in your life and in your heart.Living in a place where we are constantly offended is an unhealthy place to be. My guest today knows this all too well. Brant Hansen is an author, nationally syndicated radio host, advocate for life-changing healthcare to children through CURE International, and the writer of Unoffendable: How Just One Change Can Make All of Life Better. In his book, Brant explains how giving up your “right” to be offended can be one of the most freeing, healthy, simplifying, relaxing, refreshing, stress-relieving, and encouraging things you can do.In this episode, we talk about:How holding on to things can harm usWhy you should use traffic as forgiveness practiceThe personal benefits of letting things goAnd so much more!I hope this conversation is helpful as we navigate anger and offenses in our daily lives!Show Notes: https://jillsavage.org/brant-hansen-196Join me at the Empty Nest Full Life Retreat: jillsavage.org/retreatCheck out our other resources: Mark and Jill’s Marriage StoryMarriage CoachingMarriage 2.0 IntensivesSpeaking ScheduleBook Mark and Jill to SpeakOnline CoursesBooks Marriage Resources: Infidelity RecoveryFor Happy MarriagesFor Hurting MarriagesFor Marriages Where You’re the Only One Wanting to Get Help Mom Resources: New/Preschool MomsMoms with GradeschoolersMoms with Teens and TweensMoms with Kids Who Are LaunchingEmpty Nest...

Simple Secrets for a Compelling Life with Brenda Yoder | Episode 189
Have you ever been in a season of life where you felt trapped in a relentless lifestyle?Years ago, Mark and I wrote a book called Living with Less so Your Family Has More. One of the key concepts woven throughout that book was the idea of choosing to live with less stress, less money, and less activities than what is the cultural norm. When I read Brenda Yoder’s new book, Uncomplicated, I felt like I had a friend with a similar passion for that message, so I asked her to join me here on the podcast. Brenda is a counselor, speaker, author, and educator from Shipshewana, Indiana. She is the author of Fledge: Launching Your Kids Without Losing Your Mind and Uncomplicated: Simple Secrets for a Compelling Life. What to Do When Waiting with Tiarra Atkinson | Episode 185
If you’ve heard our marriage story, then you likely know that I believed our marriage could be restored even when Mark had checked out and was pursuing another relationship. This is often referred to as “standing for your marriage,” but it could also be described as a waiting season. While I wouldn’t wish a season like this on anyone, the lessons I learned while waiting were invaluable. Those lessons have become the heart of our online course, The Wait Is Not Wasted.Several of my friends and coaching clients have also had to endure this season of waiting in their marriage, and my friend Tiarra Atkinson is one of them. Tiarra married her husband, Anthony, in May of 1999, but there was a season when she had to stand for her marriage for nearly two years.Tiarra Atkinson is a licensed clinical social worker and a self-described “brain science nerd.” She works at a brain health center as a therapist specializing in the intersection of physical and mental health. In this conversation, you’ll hear:Tiarra’s story of standing for her marriageFactors that can contribute to your relationship breaking downHow to utilize a season of waitingAnd so much more!I’m grateful that Tiarra and Anthony are open about their story! How to Forgive Yourself | Episode 184
We want to talk with you about a question Mark and I get asked often. People really struggle with finding an answer or finding resolve to this question: How do I forgive myself? Many times, they would say, I can’t, or I don’t even understand what I should do with that. Sometimes, it can feel like you are “unforgivable,” and it would be better if you just locked those feelings away. When we choose not to address it, it can lead to bitterness, self-loathing, self-hatred, and more. Those feelings don’t stay locked away; they leak out all over the relationships that mean the most to you and can eat away at your soul.If you’ve made a mistake or if you’ve really messed up, you have to walk through the steps of self-forgiveness, which is the topic of this episode. In this episode, you'll hear:Your steps of self-forgivenessThe power of God’s forgivenessWhat work you likely still have to do after forgivenessAnd more!Join us for this important conversation!Show Notes: https://jillsavage.org/forgive-yourself-184Register for the Empty Nest Full Life Retreat September 27-29, 2024Check out our other resources: Mark and Jill’s Marriage StoryMarriage CoachingMarriage 2.0 IntensivesSpeaking ScheduleBook Mark and Jill to SpeakOnline CoursesBooks Marriage Resources: Infidelity RecoveryFor Happy MarriagesFor Hurting MarriagesFor Marriages Where You’re the Only One Wanting to Get Help Mom Resources: New/Preschool MomsMoms with GradeschoolersMoms with Teens and TweensMoms with Kids Who Are LaunchingEmpty Nest...
