Episode 35 - Turning Points (708)
Ivy is treating a sore throat with a hot toddy this week...aka Uncle Nearest 1884, neat, hand-warmed.Terri: iced coffee with Aberlour single-malt, because 110 degrees in Phoenix, y'all.Megan fell victim to the heat this week. by which, we mean she hasn't recovered from talking to Graham McTavish. Hey, it took us all a few days to recover. No judgement.Ivy has her tattoo ideas ready. Stay tuned for the tattoo outtake, coming soon! Also, henna tattoos don't cause sympathetic pain in other body parts. That's not a thing, y'all.Bravo to the wig department. The many changes between the books and the show are discussed. The show writers rushed the Roger, Bree & Rob timeline and it was really confusing.Sam's acting shines once again. Terri relates a story about Diana previewing the scene with William's hat from last fall, 2022, while they were shooting S7.Pitched fighting vs. guerilla warfare. Yes, really.William is so much more likeable in the show vs. the books.HOW THE F did Arch Bug find Rachel and Rollo? They've been all up & down the eastern seaboard! Can the show writers explain this to us?Links:The Life and Treason of Benedict ArnoldOur First Civil WarWhat God Hath WroughtTha mi sgìth ‘n fhògar seo (I am weary of this exile) by John MacRaeNext week: Men In Kilts is in full swing! Please rate us on your podcast platform! Episode 32 - A Practical Guide for Time-Travelers (707)
Thoughts on S7 first half so far, 2nd half release/actors & writers strike.Drinks picks:Ivy: Old Grandad 80 proof. Ivy is STILL not a fan of ryes.Terri: Tom Collins, because anything to get Phil Collins out of her head! Recipe: gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, club soda.Megan: Watermelon Truly. Also, Megan: come to the dark side...get a Samsung!Ivy schools the other ladies about military supply practices.Sinead O'Connor theme song revisited.Project Cassandra was a DEA initiative launched in 2007. This is NOT what Terri is referring to.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Cassandrahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CassandraWhy don't time travelers have any common sense? Just go back to the stones immediately! And the show missed a golden opportunity to put Buck in a mullet wig. Bree's wig is straight out of the Goldbergs.William did a LOT of growing up in a big hurry in this episode. And Ivy knew Sandy was a goner when he started having too many lines.Back to Uncle Buck: Ivy thought Roger was too fast to forgive Buck. The show desensitized us all. Let there be drama, retribution and vengeance! Bree and Roger need to grow a spine and give Rob Cameron the boot. Also some common sense (and etiquette lessons) would be most welcome. Rob's nefarious plan really came together incredibly quickly. Everyone felt the show really rushed this element. And oh yes, we are gonna go there: That Roger & Bree spicy scene. Terri has a hot take on both Roger & Bree scene and the LACK of the Commandant's garden scene in the show.A moment of silence is observed for Lt. Jeremy Foster.Next week: a Men in Kilts Season 1 recap before the Season 2 premiere. Please rate us on your podcast platform! If you like our pod, give us 5 stars so others can find us as well. Episode 31 - Where the Waters Meet (706)
Jul 26 2023
Episode 31 - Where the Waters Meet (706)
Phoenix is an inferno and Ivy has mended her ways so she won't go to Hell. Which includes visiting Terri in Phoenix prior to November.Whiskey picks (yes, we're back on the whiskey):Ivy - Hidden Barn. Has a kick. Taste it neat, but then cut it with some ice. 112 proof. Turns out Ivy witnessed or maybe influenced some creative tasting notes that Graham McTavish came up with on Bourbon With Friends.Terri - Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Rye. 112 proof for 112 degrees outside. But Terri mixed with ginger ale.Megan - water. But she did sample a 1968 Crown Royal bottle that she describes as GOLD.Terri might send some Sassenachs in search of Gregarious Goat down in Texas. We know they'll all be in Total Wine stores anyway. Was Mrs. Raven's storyline just an excuse for Claire to wander off and get captured? That animal pen really wasn't doing any sort of confinement work at all. Claire had the whole run of the fort. Terri wants Jamie's hair to be loose for once. Ivy praises the wigs this year. Why is the show including storylines that are just going to end within one episode anyway? Walter Woodcock's story could have been skipped and it probably wouldn't make any difference. The ax murdering couple, same thing.A brief review of Richardson and his motives.Ivy is backing Rob Cameron's chutzpah inviting himself to dinner at Roger & Bri's house.Megan saw the best chemistry in the episode: it was between Roger & Rob.It definitely wasn't there between Ian & Rachel this week.Jamie & Claire were glamping in that humongous tent. Jamie's wig and monologue were both amazing.Ivy wants an apology for Jemmy, because he was right all along about the Nuckelavee.Predictions for the mid-season cliffhanger. Please rate us on your podcast platform! Episode 30 - Singapore (705)
Jul 20 2023
Episode 30 - Singapore (705)
Libations today:-Ivy made a "Singapore Sling"...without pineapple, without sloe gin, without....well, basically anything except Gin & tonic! Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin, of course.-Terri thought about going with Suntory Japanese Whisky, but instead made a cocktail of Glendalough Rose Gin, grapefruit juice, Campari, vermouth and soda water. Refreshing and delicious!-Megan has the Offerman Edition Lagavulin. Ivy has thoughts, none of them good. Except for Nick Offerman. Megan gets caramel and fruit on the nose. You don't want to know what Ivy gets.Megan teaches the others how to play the drinking game Edward 40-hands. Ivy will be playing this weekend. By herself.Episode 705 is less entertaining than this podcast episode. The hosts revisit "ya fuck up, ya move up" doctrine. Don't ALL kids play in graveyards? Terri and Megan sure did.Ivy doesn't like burial places of any variety. Terri & Megan have both visited several. Megan likes hanging out in them (crrreeeeppyyyy). Here's a left turn: let's talk Lumberjack Roger! And Lumbersexual Duncan Lacroix! RAWR.Ticonderoga was kind of a repeat of Culloden build-up from Jamie's perspective. We couldn't figure out the entire reason behind the killers that William and the Hunters, even in the books. And did the Hunters really leave her fate in God's hands? REALLY?MVP of acting this episode: John. Hunter. Bell. And yes, that is unquestionably Ian's son. Settled.Tangent: beans on toast discussion.Tangent: Ivy thinks the Nuckleavee is Black. Listen up for her logic.Megan's momma bear came out over Jemmy's teacher punishing him for speaking Gaelic.Ivy and Megan's home protection strategies. Please rate us on your podcast platform! Episode 29 - A Most Uncomfortable Woman (704)
The aftereffects of the Bourbon Ball continue! Or, we all just continued to party for another consecutive weekend, just without each other this time around. Terri went to Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, Ivy partied at Luke Combs in Florida, and Meg went barrel pickin' in Louisville. Or, looovvull. With a mouth full of marbles.Liquor picks:Meg - Knob Creek barrel proof barrel pick from Spirit Animal Society. 10 yr., 120 proof.Ivy - strawberry pineapple LaCroix.Terri - Empress 1908 gin in a Fleur-de-Lis (gin, grapefruit LaCroix and St. Germain)On to episode 704!You may notice the word "thrupple" comes up several times. Deal with it.The new kids are great, both Jem & Mandy and also William, Denny and Rachel.Early What If? What if Ian had just ended Arch Bug right at the funeral? I mean, why live with that dread for YEARS? Ivy questions Terri's moral code. Terri questions Ivy's knowledge of Harrison Ford. Or lack thereof. How many copies of the Declaration of Independence were in circulation?William could be in the reboot of My Two Dads. And people are heathens. And Outlander reminded Terri of Revenge of the Nerds. You'll have to listen to understand that one.Bree's interview was epic. You can't change our minds.Outlander is a constant source of education. This week, the Great Dismal history and another racially-sourced phrase/word bites the dust. You did us dirty, Bugs Bunny. We loved Ian and William bonding.Loved Tom Christie's reaction to Claire, and Claire's reaction.Critiquing Season 7 sexy time.Ivy argues that Roger & Brianna didn't change history, and that everything still would have happened even if Brianna hadn't gone back to the 1700's.Megan gives a medical lesson about abscesses. Please rate us on your podcast platform! Episode 27 - The Happiest Place on Earth (702)
Jun 28 2023
Episode 27 - The Happiest Place on Earth (702)
We'd like to lodge a complaint with whoever titled this episode, first off. Secondly, whose idea was it to pronounce Versailles, Kentucky that way? Not. Cool.Drink picks: Terri: The Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin!! Having a G&T with Aromatic tonic water and a slice of apple. It is so velvety smooth it will blow your mind.Megan: 10th Mountain Whiskey from Colorado. They're sponsoring the Bourbon Ball this weekend, go give them a like, a follow, and buy a bottle!Ivy: Redemption Whiskey, 88 proof that drinks like a 150 proof.Starz, you could have done a trigger warning. That's all we have to say about that.Okay, that's a lie. Alex Vlahos did a fantastic job making us hate him. GREAT acting, Alex.Mrs. Bug is as stealth as Ian...she even had an extra shovel with her! Where did that come from?Megan talks about the "artistic license" the show took with medical conditions.Hosts discuss how the show made time fly. Did they accelerate the timelines too much? Maybe.Ivy wants more Lizzie and the Beardsleys. Noted.Brianna, Lord John and William's meeting was a little anticlimactic for Terri.Ivy noticed that nobody has visited Fersali in Wilmington. The writers' room should really take our notes into consideration.Jamie & John's breakup broke Ivy's heart. Terri would like to see the resurrection of THE Kiss. Claire is still jealous of Lord John. You'll see it if you know where to look. The fireflies were a CGI choice that we *did* notice. So far this season, everybody needs creation of new awards so there are enough to go around. Ivy reviews the acting accomplishments. Kudos especially to Caitriona and Sam. Terri praises the fandom's creativity and the show's writers, producers, crew, etc. What if/WTF? Ivy noticed there was no crazy buzzing when they all got near the stones at Okracoke. We will riot if the writers pull a "Lost" with our Outlander.Ivy feels vindicated over her feelings for Donner last week. Terri has issues with the introduction of "Jamie's" new scar. How will the show handle the Frenchman's gold and the Bugs? Finally, why doesn't Donner know ether is flammable? Also, will we meet the White Sow?Next week: possible live episode from Kentucky. Stay tuned! Please rate us on your podcast platform! Episode 26 - A Life Well Lost (701)
The three of us are back together! Celebrating National Martini Day, and also Juneteenth.Drink picks:Ivy - Suntory Roku gin with ginger beer. Terri - Glendalough Rose Gin in a lavender martiniMeg - Chattanooga whiskey Scotch cask finished, because it's rainy and chilly in Tennessee.HERE WE GOOOOOOO!Right off the bat, the hosts are unanimous in our dislike for the new Sinead O'Connor theme song. Worse than season4. Still waiting for Starz execs to call us for notes.Speaking of notes...WTF was that opening scene? Cruel. That's what it was, cruel.Did not like the echoes of past episodes.Ivy has a request: violent JAMMF. New kink -- unlocked. Was the episode rushed or was it just the timeline overall that was shortened? What was going on with Roger quoting Mohammed Ali? This might be the wildest show-only invention. Where the heck would Roger have heard about that?Ivy and Megan take one position on Roger's quandary; Terri takes a more long-range view. But we can agree to disagree. Or at least, we can agree that we love discussing these types of issues with each other. And by the way, Ivy: it's Wen-di-go. *Wendigo* Donner.Aaannnddd...shots fired back. Pew pew!!Inconsistencies galore! Exhibit A: what was Claire gonna do with potassium nitrate??Try rewatching episode 701 as if it was episode 609, season finale of Season 6. It'll change your life. Terri analyzes Tom's character arc in that vein. Somebody nominate Mark Lewis Jones for an award, STAT.Check out Glitch on Netflix: https://tinyurl.com/5em9dd4r Something is off with Jamie & Claire's chemistry. The demise of Richard Brown.Ivy appreciates what the Christies brought to the Ridge. That would be Drama.Brace yourself for another abrupt ending. Please rate us on your podcast platform! If you like our pod, give us 5 stars so others can find us as well. Episode 25 - 606 & 608
Jun 18 2023
Episode 25 - 606 & 608
MEGAN IS BACK! She had a great time in Florida but we MISSED her something fierce.Jessica/Malva is a great actress, just like Nell/Laoghaire.Drinks picks:Ivy: Eagle RareTerri: Hendricks Lunar expression in an elderflower martini. More prep work for Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin (Terri's is on the way to Arizona)Meg: Body Armor. Sounds like it should be 2 steps beyond Liquid Courage, but unfortunately it's strawberry banana coconut water. #bodyarmorMeg's great aunt Minnie Malvina has the same eyes as Wednesday Adams and Malva Christie. The cutting of Claire's hair was actually an accepted medical practice during Victorian times. But Ivy thinks Malva is a master manipulator via gossip. And Ivy dives into the origins of old wives' tales.Ivy calls out Sam & Caitriona for the debacle of Jamie & Malva's fireside chat as well as the whole Ether business...new exec producers on the block. Actually, Ivy just has a suspicious nature in general. Yeah, I said it. What made Claire hit rock bottom with the ether?=========================Episode 608: I am Not AloneHow the hell do the Ridgies and the Fisher Folk explain themselves? Evictions. NOW. 'nough said. And how do the Frasers explain their basement arsenal?? Jamie, just make it make sense. The Fisher Folk are essentially recreating Claire's witch trial from 30 years earlier.Kudos for the chemistry between Roger & Bree, and also the last night at the Big House between Jamie & Claire.  Terri & Ivy's wish list for future assignments for the intimacy coordinator as well. Kudos to Young Ian for convincing Jamie to arm the Natives because they wound up saving his ass on the beach. Here's hoping Season 7 sticks closer to the books. Quick reference to My Big Fat Greek Wedding.#obsassenachs mascot Corny sat in on the recording this week.
