Ep. 36: Krisztina Lazar, Imaginary Realism, The Alchemy Of Art & Painting Life As It Is Experienced
Hello, dear listener! September brings the shift of Autumn, so to celebrate this change of season with a beautiful conversation with a fantastic artist and teacher. Krisztina is our artist this month, and in this conversation, we talk about her process, how she paints as a way of sharing her life and experiences, her transition into motherhood, and the journey that has led her here. Here is some more about our artist: Krisztina Lazar is a painter of imaginary realism. Her current body of work “Motherhood is Metal” explores the alchemically transformative elements of having a child, from the negredo of total dissolution, the albedo of Madonna-esque bliss to the rubedo of integration and wholeness. Using both a Mische of oil and egg tempera and direct Alla Prima techniques to render hyperealistic sacred art, Krisztina creates figurative and portrait paintings that exist in the vesica piscis of fantasy and visionary painting. Krisztina completed her BFA at Carnegie Mellon University in 2004 and her MFA graduate degree in 2011 at the San Francisco Art Institute New Genres department. Her paintings have been exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the United States and Europe, most notably at the H.R. Geiger museum in Gruyere, Switzerland. She teaches her unique styles of painting to many students in group and private settings. Her work has been featured in multiple articles, galleries and book publications. She currently lives and works in Northern California. Hello friend! So excited to share another amazing conversation with you. This time I had the pleasure of interviewing Charlotte Tara. Here is a little more about our artist! About MeI am an intuitive artist working in several creative media: I am a writer, currently writing in the fantasy genre; I am a visual artist with a focus on drawing and painting from my imagination and intuition; and I am a dancer. The source of all of my creative work is the same. This source flows from the center of who I am, and is multifaceted. These facets are: Reverence and Wonder, Intuition, Imagination, and Trust and Non-Attachment. My artistic visions and practices are uniquely mine: a fusion of my own innate gifts and the loving presence and guidance of countless other beings, only a few of which have formally been my teachers.I live in Roanoke, Virginia with my wife, our twin children, and 11 other animals: one dog, three cats, and seven chickens. I grow tall sunflowers.Links:My Website is a wonderful place to get an overview of who I am and my work, and you can purchase prints from my shop.Rumoring & Shalemarch This link leads to my World Anvil page for my in-development tabletop roleplaying setting and content. Happy 3 years to the Subnormal Podcast! To celebrate 3 years of creative magic, I have for you a fantastic interview with artist, energy worker, and teacher, Nancy Martin. Here is a little more about our artist:"Nancy Martin is a Chicana mixed media artist, she creates out of her home studio in Menifee, CA. Her passion is sharing the process of creating art primarily with women, mothers and children. She believes creativity teaches sovereignty, connects us to our authentic selves, offers mental and emotional healing while building self confidence, neural connections, mindfulness and leads to fun fulfilling individual growth.  As a first generation Mexican American, Nancy was born and raised in the Inland Empire. She is primarily a self taught artist, yet she has a degree in Interior Design from FIDM, Los Angeles. A mother herself, Nancy understands the demands that modern aged mothers and women are up against and she has learned to use her art as a form of support for her mental and emotional health. In her motherhood journey with her 9 year old son, she has come to understand the beautiful connections that happen when mothers and children create together. She believes that bringing art into a community elevates the livelihood of its citizens and she strives to support her community with art.  As an artist Nancy is currently showing her latest collection “The Root”. Which is a narrative art series that is about connecting with your creative intuition and allowing spiritual and mental connections too to guide her through the creative process. This guidance allows her to connect to her authentic self to in turn share her story. Nancy also uses art as a way to release negative conditioning, allow her mind to process trauma and pain and alchemize them into art. Nancy offers a variety of freelance art and energy services such as Logo & Graphic Design, Digital Illustration, Art Event Wellness Facilitation, Live Paintings, Wall Muraling, Energetic Clearings and Kids virtual Art classes."  Instagram: @Momhawk_ Instagram: @momhawk_Kids Facebook: Momhawk Facebook: Momhawk Kids Website: www.momhawk.artnmartstudio@outlook.com  Support the podcast here: https://www.patreon.com/Subnormalchild

Ep. 31: Jennifer McEuen, Rainbow Painting, Building A Course, And Following The Creative Flow
Hey Friends! This month's episode is here! This month's episode is with visionary artist Jennifer. Here is some more about our artist: "Jennifer was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1988. In the earliest years of her life, she lived in Los Altos, California where many of her earliest memories were of her making art. In 1994 she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Growing up in Utah, she consistently studied art throughout her adolescence, and in 2006 began studying oil painting with BYU art professor Sydney Bowman. In 2006-2007 she began taking independent college art courses with Sydney. In 2008, she received a scholarship to The Academy of Art University in San Francisco where she looked forward to continuing her artistic education and pursuing her passion for painting. After studying painting at the Academy for two and a half years, Jennifer decided to accelerate her independent ideas of art and began an internship with San Francisco-based artist Hilary Williams whom she worked for several months. During her experience in the unique city of San Francisco, she was greatly inspired by the diverse and rich culture the city possessed and enriched by the abounding palette of different art forms and the unified vision of humanity within the community. In 2011, Jennifer moved back to Salt Lake City for 9 months and began intensely focusing on her new work as an inspired artist-entrepreneur. During this time, she worked with Shiloh Sophia McCloud and participated in her BLOOMING ARTISTS program where she created a foundation for her art and business. Shortly after the program, she moved back to the Bay Area as a trampoline knowing she was heading to Europe, somehow. In 2012, Jennifer traveled to Italy to attend the ‘Expanded Visions' painting seminar to study the renaissance painting technique called the ‘Mischtechnik’. Here, she was introduced to this lineage of art with international artists Laurence Caruana, Maura Holden, Amanda Sage, and A. Andrew Gonzalez. In 2014, Jennifer studied with Philip Rubinov Jacobson and Mantra Cora in Boulder, CO to deepen her study of the Mischtechnik and to explore the diversity in this lineage. Here, she was greatly inspired by Philip and his way of teaching. She studied with him again in Payerbach, Austria the summer of 2016.Jennifer has relentlessly exhibited her work in galleries and locations in the United States, such as Salt Lake City, Ukiah, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Denver, and Spokane, as well as Internationally in Brazil, Austria, England, and France.Currently, she is residing in Southern Idaho; working full time in her art studio, and raising her sweet son Tyden; with her loving and devoted husband Ryan." Ep. 30: Alexandria Crow / Narwal And Crow, Sacred Pottery, Transformation Through Shapes, & Working With The Elements Of Nature
Hello friends! Here is another lovely interview, this time featuring Alexandria Crow from Montana, here is a little more about our artist: "Working in my studio has become a daily ritual and meditation, this practice is what keeps me grounded and centered in my reality. I see each vessel as a chunk of Earth able to be utilized and cherished. In 2017, I attended a ceremony and as we gathered to eat we went through and took small morsels from each dish and placed them on what was called a Spirit plate. Being a chef and artist, I was inspired in an entirely new way. At the next gathering, I brought one of my creations as an offering. It was magical to create functional wares that were full of intention and beauty. I obtained a passion for creating utilitarian pottery, this small act has expanded into what my work is today, ever-evolving and growing. Soda firing is full of trial and error. I will forever be learning and have watched my work change dramatically over the past year while focusing on the firing process. The ability to witness the flames' path across the pots creating shadows has brought inspiration to what shapes can do. This next formulation of pots focuses on multifunctional objects and how they can dance with fire." Ep. 24: Gloria Jean Martin, Illustrating, Teaching, And not Being Put In A Box

Ep. 24: Gloria Jean Martin, Illustrating, Teaching, And not Being Put In A Box
Hello friends, I am excited to share another talented illustrator with you all today. Here is some more information about our artist this month, Gloria: "I have always struggled with being able to represent and express the experiences of people of color in a delicate and insightful way. As an artist and mother, the lack of representation of my identities inspires me to create art that expresses the intersections of spirituality, nature, and humanity. For example, it drives me to build relationships with writers to illustrate books that illuminate our stories. The plight of my people and our pursuit of sovereignty led me to educating myself on the healing magic, symbolism, and wisdom we bestow upon the world. My goal is to help heal, educate, inspire, and  create work from a place of gratitude and self- forgiveness. My artistic practice seeks to offer healing by highlighting themes of spirituality in nature as we are all connected to it. Every aspect of nature has a spiritual purpose and function within our existence. My work draws on those meanings for the mission of self-discovery and collective healing. I examine feelings of oppression and how knowledge of self, nature, and symbols can combat self-inflicted and/or external pain." Ep. 21: Emily Kell, Being Highly Sensitive, Cosmic Painting, And Embracing Nuance.
Hello friends! This month marks the TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE PODCAST!!!! I am so thankful to share the work of so many amazing artists. And to celebrate the magic of this two year mark, I want to share TWO amazing conversations with you. Starting with the artist Emily Kell. Here is a little more about our artist: Emily is a Boulder, Colorado based artist whose artistic focus is on portraiture and paintings that have an emotional and empowering element to them. Her artwork takes root in ideals of the divine feminine, in the transmutative power of shadow work, and in the mystical realms. In her artwork and in life, she celebrates the spiritual journey of the human family, the sacred Mysteries, and the country of dreams. Through her artwork and poetry, Emily endeavors to explore the space between the worlds, and to bring symbolic entities through and onto canvas. For the past decade, Emily has been painting women whom she has a personal connection to, in the hopes to reflect what she knows of their being through the lens of archetype. Emily shares much of her own personal experience of the human journey by way of her poetry, which is written throughout her paintings in a language of her creation. It is her hope that these pieces serve as windows into subconscious realms, and as talismans of cathartic reflection for the viewer. links: www.emilykell.com www.facebook.com/emilykellart www.instagram.com/emilythefunkypriestess Support the podcast here: https://www.patreon.com/Subnormalchild
