We had the pleasure of meeting our next guest, Savanah Boyd, at the library center in Springfield, Missouri on Mother's Day. Savanah was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, into a family that included her mom, dad, and sister. Unfortunately, her parents divorced when she was just five years old, and her mom relocated them to a small town near her grandparents in Missouri. Savanah fondly recalls the memories of her time spent with her extended family, engaging in country activities like fishing with her grandpa.
During her upbringing, Savanah became actively involved in the local church, which served as an integral part of the community. She enjoyed participating in events and being part of the church's vibrant activities. However, as she grew older and entered college, her connection to organized religion waned, and she began focusing more on her personal spirituality. It was during her college years that she met her husband, and at the age of 19, Savanah became a mother. They are now proud parents of two children, navigating the challenges and joys of an interracial marriage and raising biracial children.
During her encounter with The Jar, there was an intriguing banter between Savanah and the jar itself. It seemed to ask her the tough questions, touching upon topics she may have been hesitant to discuss. Savanah openly shares about her tendency to lie as a child, describing herself as a serial liar. She delves into the complexity of her lies, their grandiosity, and the underlying hurt behind them. Interestingly, she reflects on how this perception has followed her into adulthood, reminding us all that people change and should not be branded solely based on their past actions. It serves as a powerful reminder to take the time to know individuals for who they are in the present.
Savanah engages in profound dialogue with The Jar, offering pearls of wisdom about living one's life authentically. Her story and experiences provide valuable insights into personal growth and transformation. Join us as we listen to Savanah's journey unfold through the probing questions of The Jar, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of her unique perspective and the wisdom she has acquired along the way.
