American Blake Sherwood was 17 years old and living in Shanghai as part of the National Security Language program sponsored by the US State Department. After graduating and back in the States, Blake checked in with his Chinese host family and heard about COVID-19 months before it was on the radar of North Americans. When he saw nurses stapling masks together, he knew there was a better way to do things. His friends in China sent him 500 masks, and he began his PPE journey.
