Inside the Mind of a Food Allergist: Classifying Adverse Reactions to Foods
Have you ever wondered what an allergist is really thinking when that allergist is asking very specific, particular questions about your kiddo's reaction to a food? That's because the allergist is trying to determine the underlying type of reaction.  While some adverse reactions to foods are food allergies, other reactions are not immune-mediated and, thus, are not allergies. And not all food allergies have the same clinical presentations or treatments! It's so very important to identify and understand the type of adverse reaction to food that's present so that a clear and effective management plan can be put into place. This episode has a ton of information that's foundational to understanding food allergies! Don't miss this!Stop wondering about food allergy testing! *We apologize in advance for the sound quality and plan to re-record a similar episode soon. So why did we post this? Well, there is a LOT of good info in this episode, so we decided to make it available to you even though it does not meet our standard for sound quality.*If your kiddo has a food allergy, you may have heard about OIT.What is OIT?"OIT" stands for Oral ImmunoTherapy. It is a months to years long process in which the immune system is taught to tolerate an allergen or allergens.Dr. Hugh Windom was an early-adopter of OIT and has desensitized MANY patients using safe, effective protocols. Dr. Windom is very well recognized and respected in the OIT allergist community (and he's super nice and easy to talk to!).Enjoy this discussion (despite the glitchy  sound quality), and reach out with your questions!P.S.
