Our Editor's Take

The podcast Into The Portal has an obsession with anything that is impossible to explain. It enjoys exploring weird phenomena and bizarre historical facts. The hosts especially relish investigating objects and people who disappeared without a trace.

In each podcast episode, the hosts present extensive research on the topic. Once they finish discussing the facts, they move on to providing assumptions. The pair reviews rumors and conspiracy theories from the internet. They also often interview experts in the field. These could be anyone from authors to NASA engineers. The ultimate goal is to find a reasonable explanation for the world's mysteries.

The hosts of the podcast both studied international relations at university. It was that topic that made them want to dissect things like ancient history, myths, and more. They enjoyed the research aspect of their degrees but felt like they couldn't use it to analyze nontraditional topics. So, the two decided to start a podcast. There, Amber Rae could fulfill her fantasy of being Nancy Drew or Scully from The X-Files. Andrew McKay could explore his love for pre-Columbian transoceanic contact theories.

Some episodes of Into The Portal discuss famous events. For instance, it has a two-part series about the alleged Philadelphia Experiment. This rumor says that in 1943, the US Navy teleported a battleship from Philadelphia to Norfolk. Other episodes examine less familiar stories. One example is the episode "The Mystery of the Tharthar Monster." The hosts talk about monsters that soldiers saw during their tours in Iraq. In this episode, they don't rely on articles and written testimonies alone. Instead, they offer an exclusive interview with an ex-US serviceman who experienced it.

Into The Portal provides exciting content, especially for fans of the paranormal. The two hosts deliver compelling tales that might be less popular. They also use their academic skills to try and find answers to these phenomena.
