Healing in the Hallways
For as long as Danielle can remember, she has always wanted to be an educator. Danielle’s love for learning and sharing with others is a lifelong passion and crusade to which she devotes her heart and soul. Within her career path as an educator, she has engaged and inspired others as a Teacher, Learning Coach, Assessment and Data Consultant, Vice Principal, and now Principal. Her favorite and most important role, however, is as a mom. Born in Chemainus, British Columbia, and raised in Saskatchewan with her family, her roots are here, in the Land of the Living Skies. The art of sharing stories comes from her grandfather and father, who instilled in her a love of the art of communication and making connections with all you meet. Through these experiences, stories, and the love of learning and educating, the idea of creating a collection of stories, problems, and most importantly solutions, emerged. Danielle is the author of a book titled “Healing in the Halls: a reflection of the pandemic and its impact on schools education and families”. It’s a poignant and timely exploration of the profound changes brought by the covid-19 pandemic in the realm of Education. It's also a thought-provoking book because it dives into the heart of the crisis, shedding light on how schools, educators, students, and families navigated unprecedented challenges.Show Notes:In this episode, Danielle, an educator with a long-standing passion for learning and sharing, discusses her journey throughout various roles in education, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. She highlights the challenges faced by students, families, and educators, and the emotional toll the pandemic took on everyone involved.Danielle shares insights from her book "Healing in the Halls," which reflects on the pandemic's impact on schools and explores solutions for moving forward. She emphasizes the importance of acknowledging trauma, understanding community needs, and leveraging newfound technological skills and community bonds to foster an inclusive and supportive educational environment. The episode concludes with Danielle sharing advice for educational leaders on supporting and empowering their communities. Book Marks:00:00 Introduction to Danielle's Journey00:53 The Impact of the Pandemic on Education02:34 Navigating the Challenges of Online Learning04:36 Adapting to New Roles and Environments08:45 Emotional and Community Support11:46 Reflecting on the Lessons Learned15:40 Future Directions and Healing25:22 Personal Insights and Advice30:17 Conclusion and Contact Information Want the Transcripts? One In One Out
We stand ready to get on the elevator to the upper floors. We are in a hurry because after all, we want to get to a higher level. Then the doors open and there isn't any room for us to get on.That is, until we let the others off to make room. All to often we lose focus under the temptation of wanting to try something new. Trying new things is a good thing. Trying to hang on to all of them is a bad thing. It keeps us from fitting on that elevator to a higher level. Ultimately, keeping us from fully focusing on those actions that will help us reach our highest level of success.Take the challenge and see how much you can get done!Want the Transcripts? Prepare

Prepare
Ben Franklin said it best. "Failing to prepare is preparing to fail."There are many times in life when we hit a roadblock or some difficulty arises that stops us short of our goal. I don't see that as a failure, but instead a need for more preparation. The great thing about making goals and improvement about a process rather than a destination is that we can always go as far as we have prepared for and rather than stopping, feeling defeated, just step back and prepare some more.Looking at the improvement process in this manner helps us fight off that nasty inner voice that pops up from time to time telling us we aren't good enough or can't have our highest personal success. Realizing that how we show up dictates how we move forward is key. A negative mindset tells us that we can never succeed while a mindset focused on preparing helps us get there, even if it is the third or fourth time we have tried.Take the challenge and see how much you can get done!Want the Transcripts? Knowing Yourself
Jun 13 2024
Knowing Yourself
The most difficult thing for us to do is be completely honest with ourselves about the extent of our abilities. For us to reach our highest level of success possible we need to know exactly when to ask for help and when we can push further. So how do we help ourselves come to an objective conclusion concerning our ability? Our family members often overestimate and our detractors often underestimate. We all need to find that group who is supportive, but realistic and interested in helping us.Go make yourself better by finding those objective, honest people who you value for just that. Then make use of what you learn. Have a listen and let me know your thoughts.Don’t Forget to Review the Show!I appreciate you checking out the episodes. Anticipation
If you're more experienced, you remember it from a ketchup commercial. If not, I'm sure you've felt it. Whether it had to do with getting something you wanted or going somewhere new, there is always the feeling of time slowing down present.Fortunately, we finally get there. Unfortunately, it sometimes deters us from even getting started. It's in that moment when the decision to just start or take another step is crucial to us achieving our goal. After all, every ending had a beginning. It's important to remember that we choose one and influence the other.Don’t Forget to Review the Show!I appreciate you checking out the episodes. Weather changes, sometimes rapidly. So does life. Both can have the same effect on us. It can cause us to feel run down, not up to our everyday activities, or even down or sorry for ourselves. The thing is, we have no control over the weather, but we do have control over how we react to the changes in our lives and the feelings that accompany them.I offer some small, simple but maybe not easy, steps in this message. Have a listen and let me know your thoughts.Don’t Forget to Review the Show!I appreciate you checking out the episodes. Be Cool, Fall Short

Be Cool, Fall Short
When did it become cooler to sit back, play it safe, and criticize those who are trying to better themselves instead of putting ourselves out there to push our limits and improve ourselves?Doing that not only stunts our own personal growth, but makes it difficult for others around us to get involved and succeed. Getting better requires mistakes and failure. That is the main ingredient to ultimate success!Instead of being the crab in the bucket that pulls the other crabs who are close to reaching the top back in, we should be sure to think they may have the answer to reaching new heights. Take the challenge and realize we should be spending more time building ourselves up rather than pointing out other peoples failures on the way to higher levels of success.Don’t Forget to Review the Show!I appreciate you checking out the episodes. Yeah, I was pretty upset about that pass interference call the ref failed to make! All the way up until I saw the replay from a different angle showing how is was a great play instead of a bungled call. How often in our lives have we jumped to conclusions based on the narrow viewpoint of our own perspective only to find out later that we had it wrong? Did we cause too much damage to a relationship or someone else before we stepped back to look at the situation from a different viewpoint? We should all work to fight the subjective thoughts borne of our own biases in an effort to make better decisions and take better actions. That is what will make us successful.Don’t Forget to Review the Show!I appreciate you checking out the episodes. Take Out the Trash

Take Out the Trash
When is the last time you took out the trash? What if I asked you the same question, but I wasn't talking about the trash in your kitchen? Instead I was talking about all the negative trash in your life that holds you back from being the most successful version of yourself. What would your answer be then? How many times have you tried to stuff it down to fit a little more in it instead of just getting rid of it? How many times has that resulted in the trash overflowing and making a bigger mess or even worse breaking the bag because it is just too much. What is going on in and around your life because of too much trash? How much more can you take before you break?Don’t Forget to Review the Show!I appreciate you checking out the episodes. Holistic Education with Zen Benefiel

Holistic Education with Zen Benefiel
At the tender age of 18, Zen Benefiel experienced a profound near-death experience (NDE) that became the gateway to a lifetime of profound transformation and  exploration. During this remarkable event, Zen found himself on the threshold between life and death, experiencing a profound shift in consciousness and an intimate connection with the divine. Zen's NDE became the catalyst for his lifelong journey of self-discovery, leading him to explore diverse spiritual traditions, engage in scientific research, and seek out wisdom teachings from ancient cultures. This transformative experience continues to shape his perspective, infusing his work as an author, leader, speaker, and podcast host with a profound sense of compassion, authenticity, and reverence for the mysteries of existence.  Key Takeaways:We need to focus on some of the ancient and indigenous teachings rather than just the academic and physical ones we currently do.We are not listening to students enough and neglecting the social emotional aspect of learning along with how to learn instead of just hitting a standard. If students are emotionally available to learn, they will not be able to learn. You can't change a system without changing the people in it first because the people are the systemWe currently teach people to think and then feel where we should be focusing on feeling and then thinking.Control is the default when we are afraid and don't know the answer. We can only engage in meaningful self examination, if we are psychologically safe and intellectually humble enough to do so.Where we focus our attention and intention is where we will achieve.Everything in life is a choice and it's our perception based on our perspective that guides us in making them.Stay in Touch:WebsiteDon’t Forget to Review the Show!I appreciate you checking out the episodes.
