How do you build a fully electric motorcycle with no compromises on performance? How can we truly experience what the virtual world feels like? What does it take to design the first commercially available flying car? And how do you build a lightsaber? These are some of the questions this podcast answers as we share the moments where digital transforms physical, and meet the brilliant minds behind some of the most innovative products around the world - each powered by PTC technology.
The Third Angle podcast is an exciting engineering podcast. It offers all the latest innovations and breakthroughs in engineering. Conversations explore everything from life-saving robotics to technology for safer skies. Listeners hear from people working hard to improve lives through science and technology. Many of the products discussed on the podcast seem to belong in sci-fi movies, but they are existing, practical products used worldwide. The show curates them from across Europe, the Americas, Africa, Australia, and Asia.
Host Paul Haimes specializes in product lifecycle management and computer aided engineering. He has worked with the podcast's parent company, PTC, for over two decades. Haimes is the VP of Solutions Consulting for the company. He chats with many like-minded people on the podcast.
The Third Angle features some of the most breathtaking innovations around. One such exciting product is akin to Iron Man's helmet. Superheroes may have all the fame, but the true heroes are making science fiction a reality. What is more exciting than having real-life, usable technology? BAE Systems' Striker II is pushing piloting into higher realms. In the past, pilots had to peer down at consoles to see things like fuel mileage, altitude, and more. A step up from that was overlaying dashboard information on the windshield. BAE's technology is a more significant leap from both forms of piloting. The company built a helmet-type system. It gives pilots a 40-degree view of their surroundings.
Another episode features MediTel, a robotic medic. The University of Sheffield's robotics team built this first-of-its-kind robot. The podcast's producer Allistair interviews the university's head of digital design, David King. During the interview, the producer was able to see MediTel in action. The robot's many skills include taking vitals and acting as a scout in risky situations. Equipped with tactile capabilities, the robot can deliver medicine and perform life-saving tasks.
The highlighted innovations are two out of many products discussed on the podcast. New episodes of The Third Angle debut every other Tuesday.
