He was Head of The Press Complaints Commission during the Leveson Enquiry, before crossing the Rubicon to become Managing Editor of The Sun in the wake of the phone hacking scandal. He now he leads a more sedate life editing The Times Literary Supplement.

He has recently published How Britain Really Works - a brilliantly entertaining and informative guide to our country's past and future.
