Chia is a Principal at Saison Capital, a VC fund, investing in startups globally and in all verticals, but especially in emerging markets like Southeast Asia and India. Saison Capital is backed by Credit Saison, one of Japan’s largest consumer credit companies/credit card issuers. We invest in Pre-Seed to B stage companies and funds across South East Asia and India, but can look into any vertical globally. They are especially interested in fintech infrastructure/embedded finance (non-fintech companies that want to build fintech infrastructure). Some of their investments include Grab, building Grab Financial, Shopback, Ula, Bukukas, Koinworks, etc, and their fund investments include top regional SEA funds like Beenext, Cyberagent, as well as top global funds like Quona, Antler, and Better Tomorrow Ventures.
Previously, he was the 5th employee for Antler (pre-team accelerator + early-stage VC), investing and setting up offices in Europe, as well as building out an e-commerce company in Pakistan/Sri Lanka for Rocket Internet that was bought by Alibaba.
On the side, he is co-founder of Shaper Impact Capital, a platform and newsletter that helps early-stage startups with an impact connect with resources they need for their next stage of growth, and runs good-admission, a HBS admissions advice-for-charity platform. He is an angel investor into marketplace/consumer platforms.
His educational background includes a law undergraduate from Cambridge, and a deferred Harvard MBA. He likes indie music, hiking and writes about venture capital.
