In this episode, Derrike Cope joins the show. Derrike Wayne Cope (born November 3, 1958) is an American professional stock car racing driver and team owner. He is known for his win in the 1990 Daytona 500. He last competed in the NASCAR Cup Series, driving the No. 15 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Rick Ware Racing in an alliance with his own StarCom Racing. Cope also served as team manager of StarCom. As of 2022, he is the last driver to compete in at least one NASCAR Cup Series race in five consecutive decades (1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s). Cope was born in San Diego, California and was raised in Spanaway, Washington. In high school, he enjoyed auto racing and baseball. He was a catcher on the Bethel High School baseball team, and later played college baseball at Whitman College. While being scouted by Major League Baseball teams, Cope suffered a knee injury that ended his playing career. He then devoted himself to racing full-time.[1][2] Cope progressed through the short-track ranks in the Northwest, and later made his Winston Cup Series debut at Riverside International Raceway in 1982. Cope's No. 95 car finished 36th there after developing an oil leak, and he won $625. He ran part-time in the Winston Cup Series after that, making an attempt at Rookie of the Year in 1987. In 1989, he signed with Bob Whitcomb to drive the No. 10 Purolator Pontiac and later Chevrolet, posting four top-10 finishes. During the last lap of the 1990 Daytona 500, Dale Earnhardt ran over a piece of debris and cut a tire in turn three. After narrowly avoiding most of the resulting debris, Cope assumed the lead and earned his first win, as well as his first Top 5 (his best finish prior to the 1990 Daytona 500 was sixth) in NASCAR competition. He became an overnight sensation as a result of the win, appearing on Late Night with David Letterman that week. At Dover later in the 1990 season, Cope rallied for another win after running out of fuel and falling off the lead lap. At year's end, he wound up 18th in points.

Winter played defensive end for the Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers and Green Bay Packers in the National Football League, and coached for the University of Central Florida. After playing football, basketball and track at Tappan Zee High School,[1] Winter took a tour of colleges in the Northeast United States after his senior year of high school, looking for an opportunity to play college football. Syracuse was the only school to offer Winter a scholarship, and that was only after a previous commit decommitted.[2] Winter was named a team captain and most valuable player during his senior season with the Orange.[2] Winter was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round (35th overall) of the 1984 NFL Draft.[2] He started all but one game during his rookie season, and was named to some all-rookie teams.[3] A shoulder injury landed him on injured reserve during his sophomore season; the Colts released him at the end of the year.[4] Winter played with the San Diego Chargers during the 1987 season, which was shortened by a players strike.[2] Winter was traded to the Green Bay Packers in early 1988 in exchange for past considerations.[5] He started most of the 1988 and 1989 seasons, but played in a limited role in 1990 and was cut by the Packers early in the 1991 calendar year.[5] Following his release from the team, Winter made telephone calls to every NFL team and also made a highlight reel which was shipped to every team. He started driving to team facilities in an effort to get signed, but did not draw any interest until the offseason, when the San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams showed interest, and Winter participated in workouts for the Vikings and 49ers.[2][6] Winter was signed by the San Diego Chargers in the time period preceding the 1992 NFL Draft. He originally sat third-string on the depth chart, but later started during the season after Joe Phillips refused to agree to a contract and George Thornton did not play well.[2] He played the 1993 season before being cut by the team.[4] Winter was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a brief time in the 1994 offseason.[4] The Chargers brought Winter back for the 1994 season, but a cut block by Dave Cadigan of the Cincinnati Bengals tore Winter's anterior cruciate ligament in September, ending his season.[3] Winter signed with the Buffalo Bills in spring 1995 after an onslaught of injuries to the team's defensive line,[4] but he himself spent the year on the injured reserve list.[5] Winter, his wife and children moved to Appleton, Wisconsin after his playing career ended.[5] He wrote an autobiography, entitled "A Reason to Believe".[7] The University of Central Florida hired Winter as a defensive line coach for the 2012 season.[8] Winter spent one season on the coaching staff and then departed, citing a lack of family time.[5] After coaching, Winter became a motivational speaker.[5] Winter was born with a cleft palate and he later grew tumors in both of his ears.[2] He dabbled in martial arts in high school.[5] Winter was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2016.[9] College career[edit]Professional career[edit]Indianapolis Colts[edit]San Diego Chargers (first stint)[edit]Green Bay Packers[edit]San Diego Chargers (second stint)[edit]Tampa Bay Buccaneers[edit]San Diego Chargers (third stint)[edit]Buffalo Bills[edit]After playing[edit]Personal life[edit]
