Our Editor's Take

The Art of Decluttering podcast is here to help listeners with decluttering. Synonyms for clutter-disorder, untidiness, and confusion. Amazing is the interchange between the cluttered mind and the cluttered everything else. Often there are reasons things have piled up. They can overwhelm one's garage, closet, inbox, computer, or phone. But clutter likely takes up space in the mind, too.

The Art of Decluttering addresses not only that but also comorbidities, causal or symptomatic. Listeners learn great ways to clean their offices. They also get help with more profound issues behind the mess. Whether causal or symptomatic, listeners learn great ways to address cluttered lives.

Hosts and certified organizers Amy Revell and Kirsty Farrugia insist on results first. So, their UK-based podcast is practical for all. Too much Tupperware in the pantry? Listeners get help with motivation. Too many emails in the inbox? Technical episodes have great tips for listeners. From inspiration to step-by-step methods, the podcast helps create physical and mental space.

Popular episodes focus on how to stay clutter-free when life is busy. They explore clutter-free gifts, both how to give and receive. The declutter duo addresses nuances like minimalism versus decluttering. They interview other organization experts and mental health professionals. From organizing the wardrobe to managing time, the podcast addresses common problems.

Amy and Kirtsy explore best practices for organizing emails and sorting sentimental photos. Listeners also get help with unsubscribing and paring down social media. Experts like Lisa Woodruff join the hosts to offer advice.

Amy has been diagnosed with ADHD, and the podcast features a series dedicated to related clutter. Listeners learn how to manage time and energy in one episode. Another brings in a certified ADHD coach and professional organizer. Listeners meet challenges and summon strength when overwhelmed with clutter.

The Art of Decluttering releases a new episode once a week—most ranging from 30 to 60 minutes. Amy has a background in teaching and is a professional organizer. Kirsty is a former nurse turned organizer. Together, the hosts make the podcast appealing to a wide range of listeners.

Poop Test

Poop Test
If you get stuck on the idea of if something sparks joy or not... here is a new test you can use to decide if you want to declutter something or keep it. It's the poop test. Ask this question when trying to decide if something should be decluttered or kept... "if it was covered in poop, would you clean it off or throw the item away?"If you picked up your running shoes and they were covered in poop, would you clean them, scrape off the poo, take the laces out, soak the shoes and then wash and dry them. Would you do that? Or would you just throw them in the rubbish? The fundamental idea is that if you create a framework for decision making, it will make it easier for you to make decisions. And the framework needs to fit your values. If you're someone who wants to be surrounded by items that bring you incredible joy, use the spark joy frameworkIf you're more of a practical person, use the need it, use it, love it frameworkIf you're someone who needs to visualise poo on an item to decide if it's worth cleaning to keep... them use that framework!!I'd love to ask you to leave a 5 star Google review today - it takes less than 2 minutes and it will make a huge impact on others confidence to listen/ engage/ join with our community and services around the world.
