Our Editor's Take

Clay Keller and Ryan Marker create and rate film categories on the Screen Drafts podcast. The two decide which Halloween and James Bond movies are the finest of the beloved series. With their guests, the hosts then select their collective draft picks.

Along with being a "commissioner" for the podcast, Clay has participated in dozens of other drafts. He's also a screenwriter and actor. Co-commissioner Ryan calls himself a "color commentator." Ryan's claim to fame is that he's the "most prolific participant on Screen Drafts." Like Clay, he claims an abundant list of draft participations.

Each podcast episode begins with a theme song appropriate for an action film or sports arena. It may put listeners in a competitive mood, ready to debate their hosts. Episodes follow a general format. Ryan and Clay agree to "competitive collaboration." Each person offers their best-of list. The hosts and guests then form a single list from their selections. Clay and Ryan insist that they then arrive at a superior product. Other rules apply. In a standard draft, there's a total of seven items to choose from. The game then begins.

The "all-time best 'threequels'" is the topic of the first podcast episode. Clay's and Ryan's immediate banter and laughter set the tone for the rest of the show. They include Toy Story 3 in third place and The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift in seventh. Eager listeners must see if they concur with the other threequels the hosts include.

Special guests include director Eric Pennycoff, editor Darrin Navarro, and screenwriter Kenny Neibart. When writer Jordan Crucchiola visits, she decides which Ryan Gosling movies rank highest. In another podcast episode, Elric Kane discusses the filmography of Lucio Fulci. Podcaster Joanna Robinson talks about the greatest adaptations of Agatha Christie. Writer Mike Ryan lists his favorite "fivequels." Fellow podcaster Graham Skipper rates "Mad Scientist" films.

The fun doesn't stop on the Screen Drafts podcast. Listeners can hear new episodes every week.
