Manipulating a Point: Good and Bad Persuasive Writing
Episode air date: December 15th 2022   Today we deep dive two examples of good and bad persuasive writing. The focus of the discussion is on rhetoric between two articles.   On one hand we have Fortune magazine reporting rather authoritatively on "Men are dropping out of the labor force because they're upset about their social status, according to new study" where a study out of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston proclaims it has discovered the reason men are becoming less likely to work. Here we focus on how the author uses rhetoric effectively to craft a message based on statistics that set off some alarm bells Fortune Article   On the other hand we have an article by the Classical Liberal Caucus of the Libertarian Party where rather than use statistics they try to craft a hit list of reasons why the proclaimed "Kingmaker" strategy is not a good fit for the Libertarian Party. Why Libertarian Party Candidates Can Never Be "Kingmakers"   It is an interesting dive into the rhetoric used in each case wherein one takes a poor argument and makes it convincing to the average reader while the other takes a pretty good argument and fails to make a good point.   We are not sponsored by anyone.
