This week's episode on the Farm. One Podcast, Rob, Michael, and Ina chat about the latest news in the vertical farming and food industry. Plant based food markets are growing, like meat and plant milks. Is it a trend or are plant based milks here to stay? We chat more about sustainability and how it's becoming more of a necessity. We came across Chop Value, a company that is redefining waste and takes used chopstick to make furniture products. The Farm. One Podcast, Episode 13: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we're taking a moment on the Farm. One podcast to remember him and the impact he's had on civil rights and racial equality in the United States. At Farm. One, the team is constantly sharing resources and stories that we find inspiring or where we've found learnings on racial and food justice topics. In this episode, Rob talks us through some of the organizations, books, articles, podcasts, and other places that we found inspiring. We hope that you find some learning and exploration in these resources too. Are there resources that you've found inspiring? Share them with us! We'd love to hear and learn with you. The Farm. One Podcast Episode 11: New Year Optimism in Controlled Environment Ag

The Farm. One Podcast Episode 11: New Year Optimism in Controlled Environment Ag
The Farm. One podcast team reunites for the first time in 2021 after a restful and celebratory New Year’s break. We start with a catch up and a BIG, HUGE, EXCITING announcement from Rob (what a great way to kick off the new year!). The team also gives an update about what’s happening in New York and some of the plans for this year. The news topic for discussion is the 2020 CEA (Controlled Environment Agriculture) Census Report published by Agritecture, a CEA consulting firm, and Autogrow, a provider of farm automation solutions. With 371 respondents from 58 countries, the survey looks at new farmers getting into the industry, the types of farms they’re building and operating, what they’re growing, the technologies they’re using, revenue and funding. A few interesting takeaways from the survey: 95% of respondents have a positive outlook on the industry, despite Covid. Many farms that lost restaurant and hospitality clients during Covid turned to CSA (community supported agriculture) / produce boxes.CEA is attracting younger people, with 71% of founders in 2020 under the age of 40, compared to 60% in 2019.49% of founders had no prior agriculture experience. Links to read more and to download the survey: The Packer, Controlled-atmosphere agriculture survey signals 2021 optimismDownload the report here.Agritecture: https://www.agritecture.com/Autogrow: https://autogrow.com/ We’re building a new farm in New York City! For more information about joining as a Founding Member: http://farm.one Follow us on Instagram at http://instagram.com/farm.one
