How to Overcome Negative and Distorted Body Image
Nov 14 2022
How to Overcome Negative and Distorted Body Image
Today, we are going to be talking about body image and how the way we view ourselves is often distorted and how that distorted view of ourselves can lead to pain, depression, and anxiety and hold us back from doing so much!  Please note:  This topic may be very sensitive to many.  We are doing this episode to expand awareness of these challenges and the subsequent problems they may make even worse.  Please be aware this episode COULD potentially trigger some very raw emotions and reactions.  We address body dysmorphia, eating disorders, and suicidal thoughts and actions.  If any of this is sensitive, again, please be aware these are addressed.  Additionally, if any of this is a challenge you're having trouble overcoming, please seek help.  Will and Jon are NOT professional clinicians and nothing stated during this episode should be taken or perceived as medical advice. Though we will talk broadly about body image, we will also get into speaking specifically about MEN and body image as this is typically seen as something that affects females more than males… and this may even be true - BUT it IS still a problem for boys and men and we want to make sure it IS known amongst that population and addressed! Hope After Hardship w/ William Tariq Palmer
We are  going to learn what it like to serve 31 years in prison and then be subject to our stifling parole system As a desperate 17yo juvenile our guest William committed a robbery and he was tried as an adult that led to a 31yr long incarceration in the state of California. Today if he committed the same crime he would likely not have been sentenced as an adult or served no more than seven years. Now out of prison in 2019 and having gone through parole, William is passionate about helping others and is living his purpose as the voice of system-impacted individuals that are now in a re-entry program. His experience with law enforcement, prison and parole, qualifies him to create a responsive narrative to reform system-based policies and laws. Here is some more info about our guest He’s been appointed to the Reentry Council as: The Sentencing Commissioner; resides as the co-chair on the Legislation, Policy, and Practices subcommittee; and a member of the Direct Services subcommittee. He has just been appointed to the San Francisco Sheriff Oversight Board. He volunteers his time with several organizations dedicated to system impacted people: United Playaz, The Adachi Project, Marin Shakespeare Company, and the former host of One Community One Mic for All Of Us Or None. He is now the Exec Director of Life After Next - and they're looking for people to invest in the lives of others.  Reach out! continue to work with Movement-Rx and Dr. Theresa Larson.  Now we are bringing you the NEW and IMPROVED NINETY day Movement and Mindfulness Experience.  Check out the link and use the code M2100 to get $100 off! Our 100th Episode!! Never Giving Up w/ former Nigerian Royal turned US Navy SEAL, Actor, Author, and Filmmaker, Remi Adeleke
We are excited to speak with our guest today - Remi Adeleke, He is one of the most inspiring guests we have had on the show to date. We thought there isn't a better and more enticing way to start the show than to talk about some of  the great things Remi has accomplished. Check out this guy's resume and he is still in his 40s . Remi was born into a wealthy and prominent family in Lagos Nigeria - His father due to the corruption within the Nigerian and Logos government ended up losing all of their wealth and he sadly died when Remi was 5yo. Now penniless, Remi, his mother and brother moved to the United states and settled into the rough side of The Bronx. Growing up on the streets Remi witnessed a drive-by shooting, was beat up by some local gang bangers, got in trouble with the law on more than one occasion. Ran and profited off a cell phone scam that involved local drug dealers - he lost all that money too. He heard a calling and joined the US military and became a Navy SEAL - Class 266. Remi endured Hell Week twice due to a medical roll back. As a SEAL he was eventually deployed to Iraq. Remi found God - learned to meditate - and now works as an actor and filmmaker in Hollywood with Michael Bay. He is married to a pediatrician and together they have four kids In 2019 he Published:  Transformed: A Navy SEAL’s Unlikely Journey from the Throne of Africa, to the Streets of the Bronx, to Defying All Odds” that has racked up over 1000 reviews on Amazon. And his latest accomplishment was the Sept 2022 release of this film “The Unexpected” that brings awareness to the growing problem of human trafficking. WOW! Check out Remi on Instagram @remiadeleke, his YouTube channel is short film The Unexpected is here: his book: Transformed: A Navy SEAL’s Unlikely Journey from the Throne of Africa, to the Streets of the Bronx, to Defying All Odds you’d like to know more about the upcoming Ninety Day Movement and Mindfulness Experience, check out the link here and use the code M2100 to get $100 off! stamps: 00:00 Never Giving Up w/ Remi Adeleke 01:00 Introducing Remi Adeleke 02:30 Join us for the 90 Day M2 Experience 03:30 Jon leads Opening Grounding Practice (~1 min) 05:30 Remi’s inspiration to never gave up 09:30 Why Remi’s mom insisted he write 14:00 Remi’s advice to others 30:00 The impact of faith and meditation 35:00 Remi’s shining too bright! 36:00 Trusting your inner wisdom 42:30 Returning to Nigeria 51:00 Transformed… the movie? 54:00 What’s next? 58:00 Will leads Closing Practice (~1 min) Your Hosts: Will is excited to teach you how to develop self-mastery. Living with Heartfulness? (with Hyperlite Mountain Gear co-founder and CFO, Dan St. Pierre)
Join Will and Jon as they interview Hyperlite Mountain Gear co-founder and CFO, Dan St. Pierre, to discuss "Heartfulness!" Dan is the co-founder and CFO of Hyperlite Mountain Gear, which is the leader in ultralight backcountry gear.  Under the design philosophy of essentialism, Hyperlite manufactures and sells backpacks, tents, and accessories that are used from the Appalachian Trail to Mt. Everest and about anywhere in between. But Dan was not always in this industry. He graduated from Penn’s Wharton School of Business and spent his twenties working in corporate finance in New York City and Boston. Slowly disheartened by a corporate existence, and hearing the faint calling for adventure. Dan then spent his thirties working seasonally as a waiter, traveling, studying spirituality, and writing. He spent over a year in India practicing yoga, meditation, and heartfulness, and he has written a few million words in the pursuit of spiritual understanding and expanded consciousness.  He then spent his forties starting and building both Hyperlite Mountain Gear and a family while continuing to refine his spiritual practice and understanding. He recently finished a book titled All One: The United Anatomy of Being, (which for full disclosure is not yet published).  Dan YouTube “All One Aware”  Announcements   Retreat:  We have teamed up with MovementRx and Dr. Theresa Larson to put on our Mindfulness Adventure Retreat Sept 16-19th in beautiful Durango, CO at the Colorado Trails Ranch and this includes a follow on 4 week integration program … If you book your retreat before 10 August you get $200 off and if you are part of an organization that books 4 or more, you get $500 off PER PERSON!!  We would love for you to join us!  To learn more head to -   Timestamps  00:30 Living with Heartfulness with Dan St. Pierre  04:00 Introducing Dan St. Pierre  07:00 Jon leads Opening Grounding Practice (~4 min)  12:00 Dan’s journey 21:00 What is a “seeker?”  27:00 The separation and unification of energy  33:30 How can Heartfulness help us live better?  38:00 The difference between the mind and the heart  46:00 How does someone get started?  51:30 Love and Fear  1:01:00 Reaching the "Summer" of the Human Existence  1:09:00 Dan leads Closing Practice (~1 min)  Join our Whoop Team - Whoop is a wearable that tracks your biometrics. Ejecting from a Navy Jet at 695mph, Bleeding Out in Shark Infested Waters, the Rescue Mission, & the Healing Journey Afterwards with Navy F/A-18E Pilot, Kegan Gill
In 2014 US Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet pilot Kegan “SMurF” Gill survived the fastest ejection in the history of Naval Aviation at 695mph. His body was devastated impacting the sound barrier leaving him with a traumatic brain injury, broken arms, legs, shoulder, neck and a wide variety of nerve and blood vessel damage. His parachute disconnect malfunctioned and repeatedly drug him under the icy Atlantic Ocean while he awaited rescue. With lungs full of salt water and severe hypothermia he was rescued by a navy H-60 Seahawk helicopter.  After over a dozen surgeries, two years of intense rehabilitation and overcoming prescription drug addiction he returned to flying F/A-18E Super Hornets and then had some more dramatic twists to his story. He is now on a continued path to healing via holistic means including the use of psychedelic therapy while he trains and competes in ultra endurance events.  Retreat Sept 16-19, 2022 Join us, along with Movement Rx Founder, Dr. Theresa Larson, as we escape the chaos of life and enjoy a long weekend in scenic Durango, Colorado.
