Mark Gillam co-owner of Carters of Suffolk chats to us about the history of Carters which has been making handmade teapots for nearly 50 years in the heart of Suffolk.
Carters is based at Stonham Barns Park with a working pottery, a fabulous gift shop and a tea-room. Mark talks about the different types of teapots they design and create – from the most popular best-sellers (including a Jane Austen books teapot) to the most unusual, as well as an exciting offering where people can paint their own teapots! The Teapot Tearoom is also hugely popular spot, serving tea and coffee, snacks, cakes and other delights and is situated right in the middle of the Bouncy Pillow area. The Bouncy Pillow is an enormous inflated cushion for children to bounce on to their heart’s content whilst others can sit and watch whilst enjoying a drink and a snack from the Teapot Tea Rooms! The Bouncy Pillow is free for children to use.
Right next to the Teapot Tearoom is also a children’s fun fair with lots of exciting rides. Just a few steps away is the Stonham Barns Park retail village which has a variety of small independent shops, village stores, kid’s clothes, fabric store and a bookshop, to an antiques emporium, a garden centre and even some hot tubs! There’s also the hugely popular Stonham Barns Bistro which offers a cooked breakfast and great food throughout the day.
