The Scourge of Gallatin Street: Mary Jane “Bricktop” Jackson
It’s Freaky Friday (Twisted Tuesday??) and Alana is taking over the mic. Buckle in for a wild ride through 1850s New Orleans where we meet all kinds of characters, most especially Mary Jane “Bricktop” Jackson. Mary was a sex worker who didn’t put up with any nonsense or disrespect. Those that dared found themselves on the wrong side of her blade. Despite her murderous actions, we’re willing to bet you might kinda like the gal, or at least, enjoy Alana’s love for her. Tea of the Day: Lady GrayTheme Music by Brad FrankSources:Asbury, Herbert. Highway of Tears: Part 3
PART THREE. In Canada there is a stretch of highway between the cities of Prince Rupert and Prince George that covers 725 km (or 450 miles). For over 50 years, this dark, isolated road has swallowed up women and girls in the night from 1969 to present. Because of the despair that has happened along this corridor, it is now known as the Highway of Tears. In this three-part series, we will be exploring this area and the devastating stories found alongside it. If you have any information for any of these cases, please call the E-PANA Tip Line at 1.877.543.4822.Content Warning: Sexual assault Tea of the Day: Rhea.co Strengthen Me Tea Theme Music by Brad FrankTo get involved:https://highwayoftears.org/pillars-hope-strength/https://www.csfs.org/payments/donationshttps://www.mmiwg-ffada.ca/Sources:Sabo, Don, “Highway of Tears,” The Canadian Encyclopedia, June 6th, 2016, Updated January 18th, 2019 https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/highway-of-tearsDirected by Matthew Smiley, “Highway Of Tears: The Unsolved Serial Murders Of Aboriginal Women.” Produced by Carly Pope, Narrated by Nathan Fillion, Released March 6th, 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3wWjcIc_1MDirected by Tim Wolochatiuk, “We Were Children.” Produced by Kyle Irving, Starring Rene Batson, Taya Ayotte Bourns, Alice Dano, Release by Eagle Vision Inc. 2013. https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/B07FQ3GZKX/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_rMcDiarmid, Jessica, “Highway of Tears: A True Story of Racism, Indifference, and the Pursuit of Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.” Narrated By Emily Nixon, Simon and Schuster, November 12th, 2019“The Highway of Tears: The Road Where Women Disappear” by Bipin Dimri October 4, 2022 https://www.historicmysteries.com/highway-of-tears/“Highway of Tears,” 48 Hours, Season 25, Episode 7 with Peter Van Sant, November 17th, 2012Bains, Camille, “Relatives of dead, missing women meet to seek an end to violence.” The Vancouver Sun, 30 Mar 2006, Thu ·Page 27 https://www.newspapers.com/image/496873937/Speirs, Margaret, “Tears walk numbers climb.” Terrace Standard, 29 Mar 2006, Wed ·Page 1 https://www.newspapers.com/image/330198530/Million, Nicole, “Moricetown woman walking to end Highway of Tears.” The Interior News (Smither, British Columbia, March 1st, 2006, Page A5 https://www.newspapers.com/image/899209888/Dolha, Lloyd, “Highway of Tears Symposium Sparked by Teen Murder.” First Nations Drum, January 3rd, 2006 http://www.firstnationsdrum.com/2006/01/highway-of-tears-symposium-sparked-by-teen-murder/Hamilton, Todd, “Taking back highway of tears.” The Interior News, 21 Sep 2005, Wed ·Page 2https://www.newspapers.com/image/508753084/Carrigg, David, “Mother of slain teen Aeilah struggling to pay for funeral.” The Province 22 Feb 2006, Wed ·Page 16 https://www.newspapers.com/image/505252524/Zielinski, Susan, “City woman missing.” Red Deer Advocate, 05 Jul 2002, Fri ·Page 1 https://www.newspapers.com/image/558928173/Hall, Neal, “Highway of Tears website launched.” The Vancouver Sun 26 Nov 2005, Sat ·Page 4 https://www.newspapers.com/image/497415120/Slade, Daryl, “Olympic skater laces up to find friend.”Calgary Herald 09 Jul 2002, Tue ·Page 23 https://www.newspapers.com/image/486299668/Hunter, Stuart, “‘She’s been gone too long.’” The Province, 24 Nov 2005, Thu ·Page 3 https://www.newspapers.com/image/505694271/The Province - Highway of Tears: Part 2
PART TWO. In Canada, there is a stretch of highway between the cities of Prince Rupert and Prince George that covers 725 km (or 450 miles). For over 50 years, this dark, isolated road has swallowed up women and girls in the night from 1969 to present. Because of the despair that has happened along this corridor, it is now known as the Highway of Tears. In this three-part series, we will be exploring this area and the devastating stories found alongside it. If you have any information for any of these cases, please call the E-PANA Tip Line at 1.877.543.4822.Content Warning: Sexual assault Reservation Dogs episode mentioned: Reservation Dogs: Season 3, Episode 3Tea of the Day: Tribal Tea Co. The Resurrection of Anne Greene

The Resurrection of Anne Greene
Imagine a world where simply hiding your pregnancy could lead to a death sentence. Unfortunately, that’s the world Anne Greene must face in 1600s England, when she’s falsely charged with concealing a pregnancy and infanticide.
