Our Editor's Take

Katy Balls has been a well-known and respected journalist working in the UK for over a decade. The esteemed print journalist has added another title to her impressive resume: podcast host. Women With Balls is a podcast that sees Balls interviewing successful women. These women work in various fields, but all are well-known in their respective fields. The title is a clever play on words with Katy's last name.

Women With Balls is an official production of The Spectator. It began publication in July 1828, making it the oldest weekly still running today. It is also the first magazine to publish 10,000 issues. It is well known for its support of the Conservative Party.

Katy has been a staff member of The Spectator since 2016. She initially began her career as a political correspondent. Much of her early reporting focuses on Brexit and relations with Northern Ireland. As of January 2023, she is the magazine's senior political editor.

Because of her background, many of the guests on the podcast work in politics. Previous interviews from Liz Truss, from before her term as PM, comprise one of the episodes here. Political consultants such as Fiona Hill and Anji Hunter have also been guests.

The issues discussed here are important. How do mental health issues affect women in the workplace? Is Glasgow going to be pushing for a referendum on independence in the future? Katy and her guests do their best to attempt to answer these questions.

Katy is a shrewd interviewer who often manages to glean interesting answers. She is certainly not afraid of asking tough questions, but manages to do so in a way that feels respectful. New episodes of Women With Balls premiere on a rotating schedule.
