It’s a human rights based approach.” Joining me today is Enrique Restoy, he is currently Director: International Programmes at Hope for Justice, which works globally to end modern slavery.He has held senior positions in Frontline AIDS, Anti-Slavery International and the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers, and as a Researcher for West Africa in Amnesty International. Enrique is the author of numerous academic and policy publications on human trafficking, human rights and gender research and programming in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. These include the worst forms of child labour and the involvement of children in armed conflict. Happy New 2023 Year!!! We wish you good health and prosperity May God bless you and your beautiful families with love, peace, and joy. Do you pick your intention or choose the word for this year? Previous years for me was ‘Transformation’ and ‘Evolving’, and man it was good! This year it’s ‘Freedom’. What does come to your mind when you hear this word? Freedom from fear, perhaps?  Financial freedom? Maybe it’s a time freedom or freedom from limited beliefs. But then this word means a lot to me in another context. I was a prisoner, kidnaped and trafficked into foreign countries and I was sold into slavery.Christ rescued me and saved my life, and today I fight for freedom alongside of an amazing people and organizations who chosen life purpose to rescue oppressed, enslaved, and trafficked, supporting survivors and fighting against injustice. January is dedicated to raising awareness about human trafficking. It’s a key time for us all as individuals to educate ourselves about this crime and crucially to learn to spot the red flags.This month you will hear an inspirational survivors’ stories of someone who’s voices creating awareness and helping others to move forward by sharing their stories and you will hear from the experts as well. Kyle is a police sergeant in California who specializes in human trafficking investigations. He is a member of a Human Trafficking Task Force, a court certified expert, and teaches human trafficking topics to police officers, prosecutors, victim advocates, and community groups around the State of California.Lessons:1. Human trafficking is real and happens everywhere. We must be aware, but not panic. Education is key.2.
