Spring has finally arrived, casting a rejuvenating ray of hope as the days grow longer and the weather becomes milder. With the season of renewal upon us, it's the perfect time to explore fresh ideas, embrace new beginnings, and engage in enlightening discussions. So, grab your favorite beverage, find a comfortable spot, and join us as we embark on another thought-provoking journey. Here's what's coming up on today's show!Women in Canada make up less than a 1/3 of elected officials and that’s bad for everyone, and yes that means men too. Having women in elected positions leads to more inclusive and equitable representation, diverse perspectives, and better overall governance, ultimately benefiting society as a whole. Shari Graydon, founder of Informed Opinions is committed to changing our political landscape and has launched balanceofpower.ca to help women attain power to drive positive change in their communities and improve the lives of more Canadians.I am thrilled to share a new partnership at What She Said with Care to Know. Care to Know.ca is a free resource where Canadians receive the latest health information, updates on new and existing treatments and advice from Canadian doctors via email. Over the next six months we’ll take a closer look at seasonal allergies and asthma, skincare, diabetes, weight management and menopause but today we’re going to share how caretoknow works with Dr. Christine Palmay so you can stop going down rabbit holes with Dr. Google. Anne Brodie is back with another big Saturday night at the movies and this week Kiefer Sutherland is back in Rabbit Hole, a new series on Paramount, Gabriel Basso stars as a low-level FBI agent pulled into non-stop action in Netflix’s new The Night Agent, Director Jean-Christophe Klotz's thrilling history of Hollywood's part in bringing Nazi war criminals to justice in Filmmakers for the Prosecution, an adaptation of Sandra Schulberg's Monograph and an urgently important documentary.Next up, Anne is back with an interview with Julian Assange’s Dad and brother, John and Gabriel Shipton. Julian is perhaps The most famous hacker publisher in the world and remains in London's tough Belmarsh prison awaiting possible extradition to the US to face trial for espionage. If convicted, he faces 175 years in prison. His crime? Leaking videos of US military war crimes against Iraqis, provided to him by soldier Chelsea Manning and published on WikiLeaks. Assange's father John Shipton, and brother Gabriel continue to lobby for his release citing freedom of the press as Assange's mental and physical health continues to deteriorate. Don’t miss this interview.I love a great whodunit, which is why I was so thrilled to catch up with Amy Stuart, author of the newly released A Death At the Party from Simon & Schuster. Amy joins me to share how she kept the pace non-stop in this day in a life story that will have you on the edge of your seat and guessing to the bitter end who the victim will be. Finally, food waste in Canada remains a huge problem, in fact, Canada is the worst in the world for throwing away food. Think about that. Our small little nation is #1 for all the wrong reasons. Part of the problem are those best before dates which muddy the waters for consumers about food safety. Lori Nikkel, CEO of Second Harvest joins me to clear the air. Socials: Shari GraydonWebsite: https://informedopinions.org/                  https://www.balanceofpower.ca/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/BalancePowerCA               https://twitter.com/InformedOps               https://twitter.com/ShariGraydon LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shari-graydon/ Care to Know Website: https://caretoknow.ca/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/caretoknow_/ Anne BrodieWebsite: whatshesaidtalk.com Twitter: https://twitter.com/annebrodie John Shipton and Gabriel ShiptonWebsite: https://ithaka.movie/ Amy Stuart Website: AmyStuart.ca Twitter: https://twitter.com/AmyfStuart Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amystuartwriter/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/amystuartwriter Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@amystuartwriter Lori NikkelWebsite: www.secondharvest.ca Twitter: https://twitter.com/SecondHarvestCA Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/secondharvestca/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SecondHarvestCA Linked in: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lori-nikkel-41011ba/ Other https://www.linkedin.com/company/secondharvestca/

Do you know what a pretendian is? If you haven’t heard this term before you’ll definitely want to listen to my interview with Dr. Pam Palmater from Toronto Metropolitan University, who joins me to discuss this harmful trend for indigenous communities, some prominent examples of pretendians, and what is being done about it. It’s a bittersweet time for parents in their final year of high school as they start to prepare for a new reality in September in University. On one hand you can’t bear the thought of them leaving and on the other you’re excited to see them embark on this new chapter. But there’s a space in between there that most people aren’t paying attention to, and that’s how will they manage without you. Aly Pain joins me to share how to get your kids psychologically ready for this monumental transition.  Anne Brodie is in with new entertainment and this week we have so much to get to! We start with a look at two Canadian gems, Clement Virgo’s Brother and Riceboy from Korean-Canadian filmmaker Anthony Shim. The new documentary Ithaka taks a look at the controversial Julian Assange, and Apple TV+ has Extrapolations, a new eco-drama that envisions what the world may look like as climate change intensifies over the coming years. Rumina Morris, an expert on Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression, is here to discuss race-based trauma and it’s impact.  Rumina is a strong advocate for social justice and human rights and has used her privilege as a leader to draw attention to systemic inequities and demand change. Rana Bokahri has been described as Canada’s own Erin Brokovich, and is commitmed to improving the lives of people far beyond the political arena she works in. When Rana was running for mayor in her hometown of Winnipeg, she was alerted to asbestos in water and began to dig deeper. She has since started asbestosfreewater.ca and joins me to share why municipalities across the country need to be addressing degrading water pipes now. Finally Chloé Caroline’s music radiates a warm, authentic, SoCal vibe with asubliminal message for people to live their truth and spread their light. She is here today to discuss her latest album The Awakening with us before we listen to the single Afraid of the Dark. Socials:Pam PalmaterWebsite: https://pampalmater.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Pam_Palmater Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pam_palmater/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pampalmatermedia/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@pampalmater YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/pampalmater Aly Pain Website : https://www.alypain.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/AlyPain Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alypain/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AlyPainStraightTalkFierceLove/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@alypain?source=h5_m Anne BrodieTwitter: https://twitter.com/annebrodie Website: whatshesaidtalk.com Rumina MorrisWebsite: https://ruminamorris.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ruminamorris/ Rana BokhariWebsite: www.ranaforwpg.ca Twitter: www.twitter.com/rana4manitoba Instagram: http://instagram.com/rana_bokhari?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/rana.bokhari.50?mibextid=LQQJ4d Tiktok: tiktok.com/@rana4wpg YouTube: https://youtu.be/x7_-sNArbHw Chloe Caroline Website: https://www.chloecaroline.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chloecaroline/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1l3eeviueFhDQhS4d2RmCw TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@imchloecaroline Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chloecarolinemusic

Having female role models in different fields and positions of power can increase representation and diversity. When women see other women in leadership roles, they are more likely to believe that they too can achieve those positions. This is why I’m so pleased to have Senator Gigi Osler join me today to discuss her new role in Canada’s senate, and how she is managing her other roles as and internationally renowned surgeon and assistant professor.  Wedding season is here, and finding the perfect venue is top of mind for many would be brides and grooms. Thankfully Angela Risi from The Doctor’s House, one of Canada’s top wedding venues, is here to share her top tips on choosing the perfect location for your wedding day.Anne Brodie is in and we jump right into Season 3 of Ted Lasso, which we’re both thrilled to see the return of, plus a look at the sweet comedy-drama I Like Movies based on the experiences of filmmaker Chandler Levack who worked at Blockbuster and Cheryl Fennell and April Allen join me to share details about Proudly Indigenous Crafts and Designs, a trusted and secure e-commerce platform that celebrates and showcases Canadian Indigenous fashion designers and artists that create authentic, high-quality, hand-crafted seal fur and leather products, such as accessories, footwear, clothing and home décor. At a time when corporate greed is running amok, it’s nice to know that socially conscious businesses that give back to their communities still exist. That’s why I know you’ll want to hear more about Love is Warm, the first socially conscious winter coat company. Founder Jordan Britton joins me to share more about this company that provides one coat to a Canadian in need for every coat purchased. Finally, we’re closing out this week’s show with Surrey BC native Alexis Lynn, an Indigenous singer-songwriter who crafts deceptively sweet pop anthems that never shy away from her ethos of honesty and empowerment. She is here to discuss her latest album and share the single Something to Prove with us.Socials:Dr. Gigi Osler Website: https://sencanada.ca/en/senators/osler-flordeliz/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/drgigiosler Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.gigiosler/ The Doctor’s House Website: https://www.thedoctorshouse.ca/ Anne BrodieTwitter: https://twitter.com/annebrodie Website: whatshesaidtalk.com Proudly Indigenous Crafts & Design Website: https://proudlyindigenouscrafts.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/picdsealdesigns Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/proudlyindigenouscrafts/                    https://www.instagram.com/fennellcheryl/                    https://www.instagram.com/stitchedbyapril/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/proudlyindigenouscrafts/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@proudlyindigenouscrafts Jordan BrittonWebsite: www.loveiswarm.org Instagram: www.instagram.com/warm.coats Facebook: www.facebook.com/warm.coats TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@warm.coats Alexis LynnWebsite: http://www.alexislynnmusic.com/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/alexislynnmusic Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alexislynnmusic/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/alexislynnmusic/ Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@alexislynnmusic Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1qIVf0qq3fvPX0ImEmsdPl

Metastatic breast cancer or mBC for short, remains an incurable disease in need of further research and support. Dr. Mita Manna is a medical oncologist at the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency and joins me now to share information all women need to hear.Canadian singer-songwriter Jessica Pearson and her band were recently trapped on a plane for 10 hours in 115 km winds. At the request of the captain, crew, and passengers they were asked to play music to help keep spirits up. Everyone on the plane has a great time, but social media is a cruel place and video of the event went viral with a false narrative that saw Jessica being viciously attacked. Oh we’re setting the story straight on this one. Anne Brodie is in with new entertainment, and we take a look at The Quiet Girl which features a superbly nuanced performance from 11 year old Catherine Clinch, we also look at The Confessions of Frannie Langton and new drama mystery series set in 1825 that pushes the envelope in its depictions of society, the British slave trade, and its resounding impact then and now.Brogan Ingram has amassed a whopping 5.2 million followers on TikTok sharing transformative cleanings she performs for people in need. Brogan has become a leading voice in exploring the correlation between mental health and cleanliness, and joins me today to share what inspires her to help so many. Paulette Senior, CEO of the Canadian Women’s Foundation joins me to discuss the unique discrimination and systemic barriers that impact Black women and girls in Canada. And finally Jennifer Slay stops in to chat to about Women LEAD, a community created with the intention of becoming a source of support for women in all areas of leadership. Jen shares details on upcoming workshops, including one being held on March 6, and how this community helps women navigate changing circumstances.Socials:Dr. Mitta Manna Website: mbctime.ca Jessica PearsonWebsite: https://www.jessicapearson.me/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jessicapearsoneastwind Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jessicapearsoneastwind/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jessicapearsoneastwind?_t=8aHxSnB4eA9&_r=1 Anne BrodieTwitter: https://twitter.com/annebrodie Website: whatshesaidtalk.com Brogan IngramWebsite: https://beacons.ai/nottheworstcleaner Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nottheworstcleaner_/?hl=en Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/Nottheworstcleaner/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@nottheworstcleaner?lang=en YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCcV70YejOm0HcEOu2OXmgvA Paulette Senior Website: https://canadianwomen.org/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/cdnwomenfdn Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/canadianwomensfoundation/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CanadianWomensFoundation/ Jennifer Slay Website: www.allwomenlead.ca Instagram: https://instagram.com/allwomenlead?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AllWomenLEAD

Erika Beauchesne / Dr. Maxine McClean / Anne Brodie / Jasmine Parent / Julie Anderson / Martina Bosede
Tax season has arrived and a lot of Canadians are questioning the fairness of our system. Despite overwhelming support for reform amongst the electorate there seems to be little political will to enact a wealth tax. Erika Beauchesne, the communications coordinator at Canadians for Tax Fairness, a non-profit organization that advocates for fair taxation to reduce inequality and strengthen the economy, joins me to discuss. In the second interview today we focus on the attitude of gratitude and how to make it a daily part of your life with Dr. Maxine McClean. Dr. McClean has a new book out called Gratitude Keeper - No Water, No Rain that aims to help people live a more balanced life through journaling, meditation, and daily inspirational cards. Anne Brodie is in with new entertainment and this week we take a look at Juniper starring the mighty Charlotte Rampling, the uber creepy The Consultant on Prime that takes a dark look at the modern workplace, and the delightful Eugene Levy steps out of his comfort zone in the new AppleTV+ series The Reluctant Traveller. Are you new year’s health resolutions a distant memory now? Before you beat yourself up, Jasmine Parent from I Am Worthy Wellness pops by to discuss her unique approach to wellness that starts with a healthy dose of self-compassion. Multi-level marketing is everywhere and you may be part of one yourself, but Julie Anderson wants you to think twice about your involvement as either a consumer or a direct seller. Julie joins me to discuss a little about her journey with a consumer cult. Finally Martina Bosede is a new Canadian and we’re so happy to have her, as she brings her incredible talent as a  international open format DJ with here. Martina has worked with singers such as Rihanna, 50 Cent and Kelis and joins me today to share her newest single called MOVE. Galentine’s Day is on the 13th of February, and I asked Jessica Painter founder of In Her Circle to join me. Jessica has created a community that helps women fight loneliness and build authentic, supportive friend circles. Jessica and I discuss the importance of having a solid squad, and how to celebrate the bonds of sisterhood not just on February 13th but every day of the year. Aly Pain is back to discuss the teens in our lives and how could we not take a look at teen love. Before you dismiss it as puppy love it’s important to pause and take their romantic relationships seriously. Parents can help their child navigate this important stage of development and set the foundation for healthy relationships in the future simply by practicing empathy and listening with an open mind. Anne Brodie pops in with new entertainment which includes the documentary The Eye Has to Travel about the iconic fashion legend Diana Vreeland available on Amazon Prime now,  also available on Prime is Somebody I Used to Know, starring Alison Brie who also who co-wrote the film with her husband and director Dave Franco, which has a sly new twist for a leading lady in a romantic movie , plus The Love Club on W just in time for the hopeless romantics out there.Singles Day falls on the 15th of February, and there has been loads of evidence presented lately that says that unmarried, childless women are the happiest subgroup of the population. Yet as we approach Valentine’s Day there is a societal pressure put on the single ladies. So I called on Nora Spinks, CEO of Work-Life Harmony Enterprises, to join me to discuss the stigma of singleism, why unmarried and childless women are so darn happy, and how to avoid some of the loneliness that single women may feel. Dating after divorce is about as enticing as a root canal. It can be daunting jumping back in the dating game after a long marriage, and believe me when I say everything you know about dating has changed. Nadine Araksi has your back. Nadine has personally experienced the difficulties of navigating the dating scene, written about her experience for Chatelaine, and joined me with Chapter 2 Dating for an extended podcast on this subject. If you’re currently thinking about throwing yourself back in the dating ring, listen to this interview first. Finally, I don’t even know what to say about the fact that along with celebrating Galentine’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Single’s Day this week, there is also National Poop Day coming up on February 13th. Perhaps I should have put this at the Number 2 segment in today’s show? Either way Dr. Ashley Margeson joins me for a couple of laughs but some serious info about your health and how a lot of how you’re doing starts with taking a good look at why you leave in the bowl. Oh, c’mon we all do it. Socials:Jessica PainterWebsite: www.inhercircle.caInstagram: www.instagram.com/inhercircle.caFacebook: www.facebook.com/inhercircle.caAly Pain Website : https://www.alypain.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/AlyPainInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/alypain/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AlyPainStraightTalkFierceLove/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@alypain?source=h5_mAnne BrodieTwitter: https://twitter.com/annebrodieWebsite: whatshesaidtalk.comNora SpinksTwitter: https://twitter.com/NoraSpinksLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/noraspinks/Nadine AraksiWebsite: www.kickstartology.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/scarbiedollInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/nadinearaksi/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/kickstart.community.womenAshley MargesonWebsite: www.ashleymargeson.com                 https://www.bendbeauty.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drashleymargeson/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/drashleymargeson

If you have a variable mortgage rate on your home, you are no doubt feeling the pinch this month after yet another interest rate hike by the Bank of Canada. Richelle Morgan understands the unique challenges women face on their journey to becoming homeowners and in this case, staying homeowners. She joins me  to discuss some ways to navigate this stressful time and remain in your home.  Shelley Jarrett co-produced and co-wrote the new documentary What We Deserve which takes a look at how over 10 million Africans were stolen from their homes and forcefully transported to the Caribbean as the enslaved chattel and property of Europeans. Shelley decided to take a deep dive on this subject after Queen Elizabeth’s death, and found herself surprised by some of the things she learned. Anne Brodie is here with entertainment including places to find great content during Black History Month, the girl gang movie of the year 80 for Brady starring Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Lily Tomlin, and Rita Moreno, plus the super creepy Knock at the Cabin Door with Dave Bautista, and finally Alice Darling starring Anna Kendrick in a role that will hit a little too close to home for many women. Dry January may be over, but momentum is pushing many to stick with it for Dry February, especially in light of new alcohol consumption guidelines from Health Canada. Anika Sawni has helped create a solution for those looking to stay sober curious by co-founding Grüvi, a Canadian line of alcohol-free beers and wines that provide a healthy and enjoyable alternative for people looking to stay sober. Anika joins me to share the story behind the brand and with some tips for those starting their own sober journey. Canadians have always been quite proud of our universal public health care system. We are leaders on the global stage, and healthcare to this point does not bankrupt people but there are cracks appearing and provincial governments across the country are pushing us closer and closer to privatization. Ontario in particular is on high alert after the Ford government recently announced funding for private, for profit clinics or hospitals in Ontario.   Shelley Roebuck from the Ontario Health Coaltion joins me to discuss how they are pushing back and how we can get involved. Finally, its heart month and women in particular are at a higher risk for heart failure and heart attack death than men. Thankfully Dr. Claudia Machiella from The Wellness Prescription is here today to share some of her best tips for keeping your heart in tip top shape.Socials:Richelle MorganWebsite: http://richellemorgan.ca/Twitter: https://twitter.com/richellejmorganInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/richellejmorgan/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/richellejmorganLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/richellejmorgan/Shelley JarrettWebsite: www.shellandhouseoffilms.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/filmsofshellandInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/shelland_house_of_films/                   https://www.instagram.com/shelleyjarrett1/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/shelley.jarrett1/Anne Brodie Twitter: https://twitter.com/annebrodieWebsite: whatshesaidtalk.comAnika SawniWebsite: www.getgruvi.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/getgruvi/                   https://www.instagram.com/asawni/Shirley RoebuckWebsite: https://www.ontariohealthcoalition.ca/Twitter: https://twitter.com/OntarioHealthCInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/ontariohealthcoalition/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ontariohealthDr. Claudia Machiella Website: https://www.claudiamachiella.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/CMACHIELLAInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/claudia_machiella/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/claudia.machiella

You’ve likely seen the viral Signal for Help that women have been sharing on social media since the pandemic started but you probably don’t know that this initiative was created by the Canadian Women’s Foundation. Pamela Di Pinto is the manager of the Signal for Help and joins me today to share how it started, some very public success stories of it working, and more importantly how you should respond should someone send you this signal. Christmas with teens can be challenging for both sides. Parents are often left shellshocked as their sweet excitable child is replaced by a sullen anti-social teen, and teens are left wondering what all the fuss is about anyway. Aly Pain, What She Said’s expert on the parent/teen dynamic is here today with some tips for getting through this year’s holiday with comfort, and joy. Anne Brodie has heaps of new entertainment including South Korea's stunning espionage thriller Hunt, the emotionally charged The Eternal Daughter starring the amazing Tilda Swinton playing a dual role as mother and daughter, the wait is finally over Three Pines on Amazon Prime, and the very steamy, super hot Lady Chatterley’s Love on Netflix that is going to give the wedding scene on The Highlander a run for it’s money. Layoffs are becoming headlines all too frequently right now and it can cause anxiety for those that fear they may be next. Natalie Romero knows how you’re feeling all too well, after being laid off this summer from Shopify. Natalie joins me to share her best tips for getting through a lay off in the best shape possible. If you’re sober curious or have given up drinking entirely, the holidays can be challenging. Sarah Kate from somegoodcleanfun.com stops by with some tips on everything from what to drink, to preparing mentally, to being the only sober person in the room. This interview is great fun for everyone, whether you drink or not, if only because it offers perspective of the other side, and that’s important when we gather to celebrate. Finally, where you spend your money this holiday season matters. Every time you spend money, you’re casting a vote for the kind of world you want to live in. Erin Brillon from Totem House Designs is here to share ways to ensure your dollar helps instead of hurts, especially when it comes to purchasing indigenous made items.

Over the last few months we’ve been chatting finances for generations with Meridian Credit Union and this week we’re looking at Millennials who often get a bad rap when it comes to finances. So today we’re leaving behind the ridiculous narrative that says they’re broke because of avocado toast and expensive lattes, and diving into the matter seriously with Maryam Mahdavifar from Meridian Credit Union. Menopause is something all women will experience at some point in their life, yet at least half of us are completely unprepared when it arrives. The lack of knowledge about menopause leaves millions of women struggling to understand what is happening to their bodies, why they may be feeling the way they do, and whether treatment and support is available. Janet Ko, President of the Menopause Foundation of Canada, a national non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the impact  of menopause on women and society joins me to discuss. Anne Brodie is glued to the screen now that awards season is hear but she tears herself away this week to give us an update on what’s new including a look at Poland's EO, a submission for the Best International Feature Oscar, the riveting The Swimmers on Netflix which recreates the real-life struggles of two young Syrian women, and the gloriously eccentric Please Baby Please available on TVOD. We ignore what happens in our local elections at our peril, particularly when it comes to education. Dr. Prachi Srivastava, who specialises in education and global development joins me to discuss school governance and why we need to be paying attention to who is directly impacting policy at this level. Louise Penny fans are chomping at the bit for Amazon Prime Video’s release of Three Pine’s starring Alfred Molina. Anne Brodie had the honour of chatting with Penny ahead of the series premiere and shares a bit of it with us today.  Finally, we close out this week’s show with Chelle, a Pop singer-songwriter from Toronto. Chèlle’s unique sound, as well as performance style with her 5 piece band, attracts a wide range of age groups, with people from all walks of life. She joins me to discuss the inspiration behind her newest single, “Think of Me” before we play the song for you.
