George Whitehead is emeritus professor of Psychology at Salisbury University. His career at SU spanned 44 years. During those years he taught many excellent students, served as Department Chair and on committees at SU and in the community. He helped start the AmeriCorps program at SU. Working on this program reinforced his belief in the power of service learning. He revised several courses to include service learning and co-authored two books on service learning. He has also co-authored articles on topics that include climate change, social psychology textbooks, and self-presentation. He earned his Ph. D. in Social Psychology from University of Massachusetts-Amherst. During his career he has received a number of awards. These include the Alumni Association’s Faculty Appreciation Award, the USM Regents Faculty Award for Excellence in Public Service, and The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore’s Chairman’s Award. He and his wife have two children and three grandchildren.
