The South Pole Poisoning

True Crime All The Time Unsolved

Mar 6 2023 • 1 hr 19 mins

In May 2000, a young Australian scientist named Rodney Marks died unexpectedly at a research base at the South Pole. His cause of death was determined to be acute methanol poisoning. Almost 23 years later, no one knows how Rodney ingested the poison or whether his death was an accident, a suicide, or a murder. Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the mysterious death of Rodney Marks. Rodney had been to Antarctica a number of times before, and he had to pass a number of tests each time he went. Rodney was working at a station there at the time of his death, with about 50 people in total. Unfortunately, this station was cut off from the outside world for over six months at a time so when Rodney died, no autopsy could be performed until much later. Speculation and theories abound as to just what exactly happened to Rodney Marks.
