206 Is a Podcast Award Nomination a Sign of Success?

206 Is a Podcast Award Nomination a Sign of Success?
Congratulations!!! You've been nominated for a podcast award (←that was me last month!). Would you consider yourself a podcasting success? Seems like an easy answer, but it's not. Success in podcasting - especially if you're an entrepreneur - isn't just about accolades or download numbers; it's about leveraging your platform to achieve your business goals. In this episode, we'll explore why chasing big download numbers might not be the best approach for every podcaster. I'll share insights from my own journey and real-life success stories from entrepreneurs who have redefined podcasting success on their terms. Just like preparing a nutritious meal, your podcast should provide value and nourishment to your audience, rather than just focusing on superficial metrics. I also highlight the various ways podcasting can benefit entrepreneurs, from building authority and attracting quality leads to driving sales and boosting search rankings - even with small numbers. It's about creating meaningful connections and making a lasting impact in your niche. This is all especially true if you are podcasting for your business (instead of as a business — if you don't know the difference, I explain it all in episode 75) Now, about that Ambie award nomination for the show I produce and edit, (Big Lash Energy)... it was a stark reminder that while it's nice to be nominated, it is not the end-all-be-all in podcasting success. It was a very nice feather in podcaster Jayna Marie's hat but her picture of success is oh so much bigger than this award! She is on her own path and by the way... she's the real deal! Need some help determining what success looks like for your podcast?  Maybe you need some help getting to that success. Let's connect and discuss how we can turn your podcasting dreams into reality. 205 Podcast Script Tips: How to Improve Your Delivery and Performance
Mar 19 2024
205 Podcast Script Tips: How to Improve Your Delivery and Performance
Great scripts can flop or flourish - the difference is in the delivery. And, the secret to a well-delivered script is what you're looking at when you read. In this episode, I'm sharing my top tips for marking up your script to get you the best, most engaging performance possible. This is the art of script delivery and it's a game-changer for any podcaster. Learn how to transform your scripts from dull to dynamic with insider secrets I've gleaned from over 30 years in broadcasting. Whether you're scripting top to tail or just framing your episodes with my Oreo Cookie method (check out episode 10 for more), I'll show you how to deliver like a seasoned pro. First up, let's write like we speak. Forget fancy writing – we're all about authenticity here! Embrace contractions, dropped g's, and misspellings to capture your natural voice. Now, let's talk punctuation.  It's not just for grammar nerds – it's your secret weapon for a killer performance. Add extra commas, slashes, and exclamation points to guide your delivery and keep your audience hooked. Anything that catches your eye and reminds you to... take... your... time! Say goodbye to chunky paragraphs and hello to readability! Break up your script into bite-sized chunks to make it easier to digest and deliver. Write out numbers and punctuations to avoid tripping up during your delivery. For example, my script don't have 'visit podcastperformancecoach.com' – it's 'visit podcast performance coach dot com'. Keep it smooth, keep it flowing! Grab a pen and mark up your script like a pro! Underline important words, add exclamation points, arrows – whatever helps you deliver your message with passion and conviction. Can't print your script? No problem! Use digital tools like bolding, italics, and emojis to mark up your script and enhance your delivery. And here's a little trick I learned early on – restart and repeat! After recording your full script, swing right back to the beginning and restart your read without stopping (like in episode 133). It's a surefire way to warm up and get into your flow for a flawless performance that sounds just as good out of the gate as it does on the CTA at the end. Ready to take your podcast to the next level? Implement these tips in your next recording and watch your audience grow. 202 What's the Most Powerful Way to Start a Podcast Interview?
Feb 6 2024
202 What's the Most Powerful Way to Start a Podcast Interview?
Don't Blow Your Interview with the First Question! Instead, Captivate Your Audience from the Start In this episode, I want to convince you to NEVER start an episode with a LAME question again becasue it's killing your podcast. Have you ever used these open-ended fluff-questions like, 'How did you get started?' 'Tell us about yourself' and 'What got you into this?' They're generic, bore our listeners, and leave your guest floundering. These open-ended prompts lead to messy answers and uninteresting narratives. Let me break down all of the reasons to skip generic questions in your podcast interviews:   Disrespectful to your listener: Their time is valuable, don't waste it on irrelevant details. Messy for you: Sorting through rambling answers takes effort and detracts from the key points. Lazy and unprofessional: Do your research and ask targeted questions in advance. Undermines your authority: You lose control of the direction and length of the answer. Awkward for your guest: They stumble through generic prompts, hindering their best performance. So, how should podcasters start their interview? Start with a direct question that delivers immediate value to your listener. Grab their attention with the most important information right away. Remember, you're the host, guide the conversation towards what matters most to the listener. Pro Tip: Ask personal history questions during the pre-interview, then use that knowledge to craft insightful interview questions that showcase your expertise and set your guest up for success. And, don't worry - this approach doesn't mean you can't ask the background questions. You can get their origin story or their background later - once the listener actually cares about them because they've gotten valuable information or ideas. By following these tips, you can: Hook your audience and keep them engaged. Show your professionalism and preparation. Guide the conversation towards valuable content. Make your guest feel comfortable and prepared to shine. Ultimately, create a winning podcast interview for everyone involved. Ready to level up your podcast interviews? Tune in for more actionable tips and strategies! Remember, interviewing skills are something to be honed over time. Pay attention to the questions you ask, how you respond, and make sure that you represent your listener every step of the way (the conversation is for them, after all). But most importantly, start strong with an intentional question right out of the gate you know is going to deliver value to your listener. If you need help with your interview skills or aligning your show to your listener's needs (aka aligning it to your potential customer's needs), book a free coaching call. https://calendly.com/timwohlberg https://podcastperformancecoach.com/ Want to keep improving your interview skills on your own? 196 How to Benefit the Most from Podcast Guest Exchanges

196 How to Benefit the Most from Podcast Guest Exchanges
Podcast guest exchanges can be a powerful marketing strategy — when done right. You've probably heard about the benefits of exchanging guest appearances, but let's face it, it's not always smooth sailing. In this episode, I guide you through the intricacies so you can optimize guest exchange opportunities, without wasting your precious time. So, what exactly is a podcast guest exchange? It's when you invite someone to your show, and they reciprocate by inviting you to be on their show. It's a mutual sharing of audiences. But beware, not all exchanges are a match made in heaven. Here are a few mismatches to watch out for. Mismatch Flag #1: Ensure your guest exchange brings value to your audience. Your audience is your currency, so don't jeopardize their trust by featuring someone who doesn't have something of value to offer them. Mismatch Flag #2: Consider if the other show's audience aligns with your content. It's a two-way street – make sure you can provide value to their audience, as well. Mismatch Flag #3: Evaluate the quality and size of the other podcast. Yes, this is a tiny bit of podcast snobbery but if you don't have all the time in the world then this is important. A significant audience gap or a mismatch in niche and quality could impact the success of the exchange. If there aren't any mismatch flags then here are a few more tips to get the most out of the guest exchange. Before you dive in, define your goals. Are you looking to grow your audience, leverage someone else's authority, or align with a specific niche? Knowing your objectives will help you assess each offer strategically. Remember, not every proposed exchange has to be reciprocal. If it doesn't align with your goals, it's okay to decline. Be clear on expectations, especially around promotion, to ensure a fair and balanced collaboration. And here's a pro tip: clarity in communication, including email correspondence, is key. Whether you're pitching or receiving requests, setting expectations upfront ensures a successful exchange. The key to satisfying guest swapping is going in with open wide eyes, having a clear goal, and a discerning mindset. Your podcast is your brand, and you don't want to compromise it just to get on more shows. You don't have to say yes to every opportunity; prioritize quality over quantity. If you found this tip valuable, hit that follow or subscribe button. It lets me know you're serious about podcasting. 195 Your Podcast's Critical First Impression (and How to Nail It)
Oct 31 2023
195 Your Podcast's Critical First Impression (and How to Nail It)
Will your listener's first impression of your podcast also be their last? You only get one chance for a first impression. **The Listener's Journey: It Starts Before They Press Play** Your listener's journey kicks off long before they even hit that play button. They're on a quest, seeking an expert or a solution to their specific problem. They're turning to platforms like Google, YouTube, and, of course, podcasts. It's the same way most of my clients find their way to me when they're ready to launch a show or make their existing podcast even better. Your potential audience is out there, searching for content that can address the very challenges your business solves. The question is, will they find you? **The Gift of a New Perspective - My Listener Journey** I recently celebrated my 50th birthday and decided it was time for a health checkup. High cholesterol runs in my family, and I was determined to explore alternatives before resorting to medication. So, I did what any curious person would do – I started my research journey. I'm sharing my firsthand experience navigating the world of cholesterol experts through various podcasts, both individual episodes and longer-running series. **The Good, the Bad, and the AI-Generated** My search revealed a spectrum of podcast options. As I explored, I couldn't help but put myself in the shoes of a listener actively searching for a podcast. Some of these podcasts turned out to be AI-generated, even AI-hosted. Frankly, they were quite underwhelming. From robots defining cholesterol to incoherent synthetic voices, it was far from the quality content I was seeking. There were also human-hosted podcasts that promised more episodes but ended up as one-off endeavors, leaving me with a sense of disappointment and frustration. A bad first impression is often the last impression. **Long-Lasting Shows: Titles Tell the Tale** I decided to give longer-lasting podcasts a chance, sifting through their episode titles and descriptions. What I discovered was that these elements revealed a lot about the show's stance on medication, hidden agendas, and their overall approach. This process solidified the concepts I've discussed on this podcast about the listener's journey. **The Listener Journey is Not Linear** The key takeaway here is that podcast listeners don't follow a linear path. They won't necessarily start with episode one and work their way through sequentially. Until they get to know, like, and trust you, they'll cherry-pick content based on their immediate interests. This is why your podcast library should be a treasure trove of valuable, relevant content that caters to their needs and establishes you as the go-to authority for solving their problems. **Step into Your Listener's Shoes** As a podcaster, you can harness the power of my experiences as a listener embarking on a quest to solve a new problem. The key is to put yourself in your listener's shoes. Imagine the circumstances that trigger their search for your expertise. What keywords are they entering into their search bar on Google, Bing, or their favorite podcast platform? The ultimate goal: be discoverable, the first step to winning over your audience. **Master That First Impression** Once your potential listener finds you, it's essential to make a strong first impression. Consider the artwork, the podcast's description, and the episode titles. Do they accurately represent what you have to offer? Does your podcast library feel cohesive and demonstrate your expertise? Remember, you might not get a second chance to make a lasting impression. **Respect Their Time and Don't Sound Like Junk** When your listener presses play, it's make or break time. As a listener, I'm not only assessing the content but also the audio quality. More importantly, I'm looking for hosts who respect my time. Podcast listeners have certain standards, and they expect you to deliver valuable content efficiently. **Would You Pass My Test?** Here's a challenge for you – test your discoverability and evaluate the effectiveness of your first impression. Put yourself in your listener's shoes, especially when they're triggered to seek out your expertise. Can they find you? What do they see when they discover your podcast? How does your content sound, and is it engaging enough to hold their attention? **Elevate Your Podcasting Game** Understanding the listener's journey and the significance of first impressions is paramount in the world of podcasting. By embracing these principles, you can create content that positions you at the top of the search results and keeps your audience coming back for more. If you find that your podcast needs a tune-up to improve its discoverability and first impression, I'm here to help. 194 5 Mistakes Podcasters Make with Their Microphone (and How to Fix Them)
Oct 17 2023
194 5 Mistakes Podcasters Make with Their Microphone (and How to Fix Them)
I have 5 key tips on how you master your microphone and make your show sound even better. Sorry if this bruises your ego but they're probably multitasking while listening to your podcast. They could be doing household chores, walking the dog, or commuting. If they have to strain to hear what you're saying, your podcast instantly becomes annoying. Was that your goal? No, no it wasn't. So, let's stop annoying your listener and give them the sound quality they deserve! In this episode, I break down the top 5 mistakes podcasters make with their microphones and, most importantly, how to correct them.  Mistake number 1: Using wireless mics. I'll tell you upfront; it's a no-go for professional podcasting. But you don't need to break the bank on a fancy microphone. All we're aiming for is clean and clear audio quality, and an $80 Dynamic USB mic does the job. Dynamic mics are more forgiving and perfect for podcasting. I recommend starting with a Samson QU2 or the Audio-Technica ATR 2100. The key is that they are wired into your recording device. Mistake number 2: Using your microphone incorrectly. Different microphones require different techniques. You must know what kind of mic you have and how to use it. Mic placement is critical, so much, it was my FIRST EPISODE and you can find more information on this in my YouTube videos.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuQxy7shV3Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W7B7kxQdmc Mistake number 3: Not using a pop filter. Those plosives and breathiness can be real show-stoppers. Think about your listeners using earbuds or noise-canceling headphones; every 'P' you pop feels like a punch to the ear. Invest in a pop screen or a foam muff for your microphone, or better yet, get both! Mistake number 4: not paying attention to your microphone settings. If you ignore this, you might end up recording with the laptop's onboard mic, and that's brutal. Test, for the love of podcast gods, test! Here's how a pen can help: https://podcastperformancecoach.com/124-three-reasons-great-podcasters-want-to-have-a-pen-handy/ Mistake number 5: Not being mic-aware. You don't want to drift away from the mic as you record. Pay attention to your microphone's placement. Know where the mic is in relation to your mouth. Check out episode 166 for more: https://podcastperformancecoach.com/166-how-to-avoid-the-annoying-podcast-mic-fade/ And remember, these 5 mistakes apply to your guests too. It's YOUR job to make sure they know how to use their microphones correctly. Listen to how they sound, test, and guide them before hitting the record button. If they drift off or start to sound off, pause the interview and fix it. Don't make your listeners choose between annoyance and not listening. Do your listeners a favor and care about their listening experience. It will make you sound better and increase the chances that they become fans and customers. Your authority and credibility are on the line. So, make sure you use the right microphone, learn how to use it correctly, including using a pop screen, test it every time, and stay mic-aware. Make sure your guests adhere to the same standards. There's no excuse for putting your listener in a position where they have to decide between not listening or being annoyed by your poor audio quality. If you feel like your show could sound better but you're not sure what needs to be addressed, I can help in less than 15 minutes. I could probably troubleshoot your issue in 15 seconds. But I'll give you the full 15 minutes or more when you take me up on my FREE podcast Coaching call. Let's get you sounding like a pro. Get on my Calendar: https://calendly.com/timwohlberg

193 5 Content Hacks So You Never Run Out of Podcast Episode Topics
Have you ever thought 'I'm going to run out of podcast topics!'? Maybe it's kept you from launching a podcast? Ideas-endurance is a real concern. But, if you think you could only come up with 20 topics, hit play! In this episode, I share how to transform those initial 20 topics into a limitless fountain of on-brand, purposeful content. The goal? Making your podcast a major marketing powerhouse. Here's the thing: If you're using your podcast to build authority, you don't need 200 diverse topics. In fact, you shouldn't. It's tempting to showcase the vastness of your knowledge, but that doesn't serve your listeners or business. If you want to be the authority on a topic and the solution to someone's problem then dive deep into what your audience seeks. Want to keep things fresh while consistently delivering on your core competency? Here's my approach: 1. Analogies: Like how Geraldine Carter used a Rubik's Cube to explain a core concept, refreshing analogies make old content feel new. Hit play to learn more. 2. Real-world examples: Share client stories or case studies. They're powerful and breathe new life into your main messages. 3. Perspective shift: Rotate your idea, and inspect it from different angles, even from the misunderstood viewpoints. 4. Lists: Break down ideas into list formats; each list item can be a new episode! Oh, and so can the list itself. And, the list items can also have lists. And so on, and so on... 5. Conversations: Invite guests to share their perspectives. Your client's experiences can also rejuvenate ideas shared in past episodes. Your podcast shouldn't be about constantly sharing new topics. It's about revisiting core ones with a fresh take. Your message stays consistent, and every new listener gets a chance to engage with your core insights. Remember, for some, it might take multiple episodes to truly grasp your message. When they do, they'll realize how invaluable your insights are. Don't fret about constantly innovating topics. Revamp and revitalize your core ones. Your audience will appreciate it, and your business will flourish. 191 Top 5 Productivity Tips You Should be Doing Right Now with Your Podcast

191 Top 5 Productivity Tips You Should be Doing Right Now with Your Podcast
Suddenly, your podcast has turned into a time-sucking monster. Let's tackle the common woe with my top 5 podcast productivity tips. Finding efficiencies and production hacks comes up from time to time with our clients so it was no surprise when one of them (who recently ushered a tiny human into the world) as for some tips. Juggling everything with her business, parenthood, and podcasting was suddenly feeling like too much but there was no way she was giving up her best lead generator. The solution? Amping up efficiency. Here's the good news — don't need to be sleep-deprived from baby duties to benefit from a sleeker production process.   Here are my top 5 tips for improving podcast productivity:   1. Plan More and Better Our first stop on the journey to podcasting efficiency: planning ahead like a seasoned pro. I've got a gem for you – a 90-day content calendar. Imagine having a roadmap for your podcasting escapade, knowing precisely what lies ahead and when. This isn't just about rescuing time from the clutches of chaos; it's about tapping into a wellspring of creative energy. When you're not grappling with last-minute decisions, your creative juices flow effortlessly, like a river surging after a spring rain. 2. Embrace The AI Revolution Ah, AI – the contemporary magician of efficiency. Embrace AI as your trusty sidekick. This technological marvel isn't just for whipping up recipes with your pantry staples (though it's surprisingly good at that). AI can propel your podcasting game to unparalleled heights. Use AI to brainstorm topic ideas, craft script outlines, suggest interview questions, and even handle post-production tasks like show notes, transcripts, and social media content. Can you tell if this was AI-generated? For a deep dive into this AI wonderland, don't miss episodes 175, 176, and the AI-hosted episode in between. 3. Unleash Your Inner Producer It's time to channel the producer's mindset. It all starts with pre-interview preparation. The time invested here translates into time saved during the interview and editing. During interviews, start a clock when you hit record then, armed with a trusty pen and paper, jot down notes – what to keep, feature, chop — this will streamline your editing process. Even for solo shows, this rule still holds – production notes are your best way to track pickups, best takes, and even promotional snippets. Doing this will save you a mountain of time during editing and promotion. 4. Have Systems, Dammit. Life is simply more beautiful with systems in place. I could do a whole episode on this topic alone. (Interested? Let me know!) But for now, here's a sneak peek. The crown jewel of systems is your file management. Every file has to have a home. Create a folder system that houses each show, its assets, and all recorded elements, each episode basking in its well-organized haven. And don't underestimate time blocking; it's not just for the corporate realm. Block out your schedule, set deadlines for pivotal production components, and establish a hub for seamless team communication. And don't forget templates! Whether it's your production blueprint, episode outlines, show notes, or even email and social media templates – they're the secret to saving time and maintaining consistency. 5. Master the Art of Batch Recording Imagine if you could get the savings of a Costco spree, and apply it to your podcast production time. That's the power of bulk, baby. In the podcast world, it's called batch recording. When you're not operating from a permanent studio, this technique is pure gold. Record multiple interviews or solo shows in a single session. Here's a pro tip: sync this strategy with batching other production elements like script outlines, research, or email outreach. Your vocal stamina might be the only limit, but you'll soon find your groove. That One Shortcut That's a No-Go Now, let's talk about a contentious shortcut: AI-driven editing. I'm not on board with this one. AI-edited content often feels robotic, with every breath and natural pause scrubbed away. Real people breathe, they hesitate, they say 'um' and 'ah.' If you're considering AI for the heavy lifting, that's fine – as long as you or your editor fine-tune the results. After investing so much time and effort into your show, the last thing you want is for your listeners to question your authenticity. Whether it's a newborn or just life in general that's sucking up your time - efficiency is your trusty ally. Apply these tips: craft your plan, welcome AI, embrace your inner producer, build solid systems, and wield the art of batch recording. And don't forget – maintain your authenticity by keeping those edits human. Hungry for more? Eager to unlock my treasure trove of templates and time-saving systems? You're in luck! We cover all of this in both of our coaching programs – the Concept to Casting Podcast Launch Program and the Podcast Tune-Up. Intrigued? Snag your free 15-minute coaching session with me. 190 Should You Start A Podcast for Your Personal Brand
If you've got a personal brand, having a podcast is like adding rocket fuel to your brand's growth. But hold on, even if you're rocking a podcast already, there's gold in this episode for you too. Freelancers and service-based businesses, you're not left out – dive in, because I'm about to reveal the ultimate ways a podcast can transform your brand's destiny. First things first, let's set the stage. When I say "personal brand," I'm talking about that business driven by the magnetic force of one person – that's you! Your expertise, your flair, your values – they're the foundation of your business. Let's break it down. A solid personal brand means: 1. Being Remarkable: You're known for something that sets you apart. 2. Radiating Personality: Your charm resonates and sticks. 3. Staying On-Point: Your message is consistent across the board. 4. Putting Skills on Display: You're the go-to authority in your niche. 5. Building Bonds: You're cultivating loyal relationships with your ideal customers. Podcasting? Oh, it's the ace up your sleeve that nails all these goals and more.   Why Podcasting is Your Brand's Bestie 1. Master of Expertise and Authority: Your podcast is your megaphone for expertise. It's where you shine, flaunting your knowledge and cementing your authority. 2. Unleash Consistency and Authenticity: Your podcast is your arena. It's where you show up, be yourself, and passionately tackle topics you love. Your audience connects with your authenticity. 3. Forge Personal Connections: Podcasting is intimate. Listeners tune in, often one-on-one. Your passion ignites a connection, and familiarity breeds liking, trust, and loyalty. That? It's a goldmine for leads and sales. 4. Harmony with Your Brand: But here's the kicker – your podcast has to jive with your brand's core. If it's not echoing your expertise, authority, or true personality, it won't propel your brand – it might even hold it back.   Podcasting is a Marathon, Not a Sprint. You're in it for the long game. Podcasting is no quick win; it's about building relationships and enduring connections. That's why consistency is key.   Existing Podcasters, This One's for You Too If you're already podcasting with a personal brand, don't rest on your laurels. Take a deep dive into your podcast's impact. Is it driving your brand? Or is it lagging behind? Remember, podcasting is just one gear in the marketing machine. The veterans still in the game? 189 The 3 Parts of a Powerful Podcast Call to Action

189 The 3 Parts of a Powerful Podcast Call to Action
You want action? You better ask for action. And you better ask right! I'm talking about the keys to dropping an effective call to action in your podcast. You know, it's surprising how often I come across podcasters who either skip or mess up the call to action in their shows. So, let's fix that! I've talked about the importance of the Call to Action before but today, I'm arming you with the tools you need to make your CTAs more effective. There are three critical components to include in every CTA: Why, What, and How. First up is the "Why." Don't underestimate the power of this part. If you want your listeners to take action, you must tell them why. What's in it for them? Remember, it's not about you; it's about what benefits they'll get. If they understand the value they'll gain, they're more likely to act. Next comes the "What." Never assume your audience knows what action to take. Be crystal clear about the specific action you want them to perform – whether it's visiting your website, subscribing, downloading, or anything else. And finally, we have the "How." This is about going the extra mile to explain precisely how to take that action. A simple "download" won't cut it. Be detailed and make sure they know the exact steps to follow. When you provide clarity, your listeners will feel taken care of, and that's what we all want, right? Now, here's a little secret: your call to action isn't always about sales. Sure, it could be, but it doesn't have to be every time. Match your CTA to the content of your episode, and you'll see better results. Context is key! When you listen to this episode, pay attention to how seamlessly I weave my CTAs into the conversation. They are relevant to what I'm discussing, making them feel like natural next steps for you, the listener. No pushiness, no awkwardness – just logical next moves. So, here's your challenge: incorporate CTAs where they make sense in your episodes. Tell your audience why they should act, what action to take, and exactly how to take that acton. I guarantee you'll see way more action! Speaking of action, a recent client praised me for being the only podcast coach who offered actionable advice during a free coaching call. He loved that I was all about action. If you love action too, and you're ready to elevate your podcast, visit podcastperformancecoach.com and click the big orange button to book your free 15-minute coaching call with me. 188 Shut Up and Listen - Podcaster Interview Best Practices

188 Shut Up and Listen - Podcaster Interview Best Practices
If you interview people on your podcast you need to constantly be improving your podcast interview skills. In this episode, I dive into the art of interviewing, which goes beyond asking good questions. It's about creating engaging conversations and extracting valuable insights from your guests. So, get ready to make your podcast unmissable with these 5 essential tips to become a better interviewer. Tip #1 - an interviewer's greatest skill is to know when to be quiet and actively listen. Yes, having prepared questions is important, but true magic happens when you listen attentively to your guest's responses. Lean in, get curious, and ask follow-up questions, challenge your guest, or ask for examples and stories to uncover those golden nuggets of wisdom. Now, let's talk about interrupting. Tip #2 is to avoid excessive interruptions. While some interruptions can be compelling, too much of it can annoy your guest and frustrate your listeners. Find the right balance to maintain a smooth flow of conversation. Moving on to Tip #3 - always represent your listener. Think about what your audience might be curious about or need clarification on, and don't hesitate to ask those questions. Your listeners will appreciate your thoughtfulness and feel engaged throughout the episode. Here's a reminder for Tip # 4 - editing is your friend. Knowing that you can edit the conversation later allows you to relax during the interview. If a guest goes off-topic, no worries, you can cut it out. Just be cautious not to over-edit, as you still want the conversation to feel natural and authentic. Last but not least, Tip #5 - embrace the power of silence. Pauses in the conversation can add comedic, emotional, or dramatic impact. They pull your listeners in and keep them engaged. Don't be afraid of a little dead air; it can work wonders. By mastering these interviewing best practices, you'll create a more powerful listening experience and turn your audience into loyal fans who can't wait to share your show with others.
