In the absence of ego you are forced to look at yourself and to see yourself with honesty rather than defensiveness, ignorance and unwillingness. To love yourself is to also parent yourself so that you practice self-discipline and live of the highest honour because this is how you grow esteem and worth.   Love is graceful and kind. Love embraces the humour in life’s moments and the ways in which you receive your answers and all that you need. It is here that you open a path unto yourself ~ to call forward all of the love that lives here (within you.)   When you open the heart it thrives. Self-love is how you express divine purpose and intention. It is how you live unstoppable in your belief of all of love that lives here and waiting for you.   Mantra of Self-Love: β€˜All of the places of life that I seek to live and know myself best are also the means by which I live in the inspired consciousness of the divine.’   So much of the healing work that I do with clients is the journey of self-love. It is the sacred practices and rhythms that account for all of the ways in which we find peace within.   We feel loved and supported because of who we are and our dignity and we can call unto ourselves all of the ways in which love becomes the truest expression of our lives one moment and the next.   The love required of you is the love of your pure and powerful grace and dignity. It is the love of all miracles. The first four limbs (or paths) of the Yoga Sutras center on the purification of body and mind. In the pratyahara stage, the mind becomes completely free from the interference of external objects caused by the senses. This focus is usually the breath, but it can also be the repetition of a mantra, the visualization of a deity, or the contemplation of a deep truth.   When we practice Dharana, the mind becomes peaceful and it softens or stills. We strengthen the mind by focusing on one area and practicing control of the mind. The mind is like a muscle we can train, and it's not beyond our control that the thoughts just come and take us away with them. Dharana ~ Calm Focusing of the Mind The WISDOM podcast  Season 3  Episode 98   ~ Concentration is the binding of the mind’s attention (focused awareness) to one particular point (to the exclusion of everything else).  ~ Yoga Sutra 3:1  ~ πŸ’œ   If you’ve been joining me in this series on the Yoga Sutras ~ the eight-fold path of classic yoga, we are in this episode here at the sixth limb ~ Dharana.   Classical Yoga is a system of spiritual Knowledge coming from the scriptures (the Vedas), and handed down by a lineage of teachers.    Calmly focusing the full attention of the mind and consciousness on one point to the exclusion of everything else = this is dharana (concentration). Dharana comes from the word dhri β€˜to hold firm’.   This is not generalized attention where the mind is still engaged in thought-processes but to the yoga technique of β€˜one-pointed’ (ekagrata) concentration: a continuous flow of consciousness inwards either on an internal object (antara-visaya), or an externalized object (bahya-visaya).   Here I share the four ways to Achieve Dharana ~ in daily life + have a listen to any of the previous episodes in this series to build the spiritual practices and the teachings of living enlightened.     Join me for a 30-day Stillness Challenge! Pratyahara ~ Mastery of the Senses The WISDOM podcast  Season 3  Episode 96   ~ You can always go inward for your answers, your wisdom, your truth.  ~ πŸ’œ   In pratyahara the attention is directed inwards.  It is to practice engaging in the world within.   Through the practice of asana and pranayama one turns the mind’s attention within, being totally aware of where the impulse to breathe in and breathe out arises.   Total attention and awareness of that is itself pratyahara, or drawing one’s attention into and within oneself.   One of my favourites and perhaps considered the most important – pratyahara is the veil between the first four limbs which rein mind and body and the final three limbs –dharana, dhyana, and samadhi, are the universal or natural states of yoga, and represent the inner journey.   Pratyahara is the withdrawing of the senses, mind, and consciousness from contact with external objects, and then drawing them inward towards the soul.   Join me for a 30-day Stillness Challenge! Asana ~ The Seat of Stillness ~ exploring the third yoga sutra ~   The WISDOM podcast  Season 3  Episode 92   β€œBe still and find your infinity.” πŸ’œ   Patanjali’s description of asana does not refer to any particular yoga postures rather the ability to hold the body motionlessly still in preparation for and sitting in long periods in, deep meditation.   If the body is restless, then the mind will also become restless. Therefore, in order to ensure that the mind becomes still and quiet, the body needs to be trained, to make it steady with ease and comfort.   β€˜Posture is mastered by freeing the body and mind from tension and restlessness and meditating on the infinite.'  When posture is mastered one is undisturbed by the pairs of opposites (dualities).   Here I guide us in a practice of Asana with stillness for 5 minutes.   As we do so, allow your breath to be the only subtle movement that is naturally occurring with the rise and fall of the chest.  This is how you prepare for the higher spiritual practices of concentration (dharana),  meditation (dhyana) and bliss (samadhi).   Q: Where in your life can you cultivate stillness (or more stillness)?
