UFC 37.5: As Real As It Gets 'Belfort vs Liddell | 6th Round RETRO
Welcome to the 6th Round Retro Post-Fight Show. This is the show that digs into the archives and gives you a comprehensive review of classic MMA events, that span as far back as UFC 1. Join Eddie Mercado & Victor Rodriguez as they delve into the world of the ‘UFC 37.5 As Real As It Gets’ event this week, straight out of the archives of yesteryear. So let’s take a trip back to Saturday, June 22, 2002 and check out the first UFC event to feature Joe Rogan as a color commentator; after having done several behind-the-scenes interviews starting back at UFC 12. The guys will explore the UFC 37.5 event complete with results, analysis, and of course a few laughs. The oddly numbered event was a last-minute deal which was held in order to promote the ‘UFC on FOX’ Sports Net’s ‘The Best Damn Sports Show Period’, where the “best fight” of the night was to air during the BDSSP’s ‘All Star Summer’ celebration in June 2002. The fight aired was ‘Steve Berger vs Robbie Lawler’, which holds the distinction of being the first ever MMA fight to be aired on US cable TV. The ‘UFC 37.5’ event, aka: ‘As Real As it Gets: Vitor Belfort vs. Chuck Liddell’ went down from the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. It featured a mere six fights on the card and was then held aside for it’s PPV broadcast until later on August 16th. They called it UFC 37.5 because UFC 38 was previously announced & marketed for England, where the UFC was making their debut in three weeks. Your commentators were Mike ‘Goldy’ Goldberg, Jeff Osborne, & the debuting Joe Rogan. Plus, we had Bruce Buffer on the mic, with ‘Big’ John McCarthy, Kipp Kollar, & Cecil Peoples refereeing the event. The big names of the show were Chuck Liddell & Vitor Belfort in the headliner, with Benji Radach vs Nick Serra in the co-main. We also had a young Robbie Lawler giving a stellar performance on the card. The event had what may be the smallest audience for a UFC numbered event, at 3,700 people. If you would like to watch the event, it can be found on UFC Fight Pass in the UFC Archives in one viewing; you can also search for the event via YouTube or you can search under the names of the fighters of each bout, one video per bout is likely out there across the interwebs, so some hunting would need to be done to look up the card in its entirety off of platforms other than Fight Pass. Join us to rediscover all the action and discuss as we go along! Let’s check it out! ________________________________ (SPOILERS) The fight card was set up as follows: At 5:39 — LHW: Chuck Liddell (11-1) def. UFC 276: LIVE YT Radio-Style PBP — ‘Adesanya vs Cannonier’ & ‘Volkanovski vs Holloway 3’ Commentary
Join us for an audio broadcast of our LIVE ‘radio style’ play-by-play commentary of the UFC 276 PPV MAIN CARD, including LIVE updates, results & reactions. The event was broadcast on ESPN+ from the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, NV. Check out the VIDEO broadcast of this show on our Combat Culture YT Channel at: the telecast, our host, Matt Ryan, & co-host Brendan Sokler, brought you all of the face-punching goodness the UFC could provide. The UFC is showcasing a World Championship Doubleheader this weekend at their UFC 276 PPV event. So, we get two title fights, including a trilogy but that oughta be a barn-burner. Israel Adesanya is closely becoming the Mike Tyson of our generation at 185 pounds, because no matter if it’s a (technical) knockout or a decision, you’re tuning into the ESPN+-streamed show just to see what the heck he does. And while Jared Cannonier is a bad dude and you’ll never not hear anyone say or write that he’s entering a completely different level in “Sin City.” If this were “Money In The Bank” across the street at MGM Grand (why WWE decided to run against International Fight Week in the same city is beyond us), we’d see Cannonier gain some sort of advantage or have Adesanya come in with some sort of glaring weakness or injury because you need to nerf the Anime nerd with death in his hands and feet to give “Killa Gorilla” some hope before the bell rang. But, UFC is not WWE and, to our understanding, these fights are not predetermined. So, shout out to everyone who thinks every mixed martial arts (MMA) fight is a work, you give us energy. This main event, alongside an Alexander Volkanovski vs. Max Holloway trilogy bout banger at 145 pounds and Sean O’Malley looking like someone who sells you fake pot at Bonnaroo and the rest of this card, has us excited enough to shout at the television set along with you TONIGHT, starting 15 minutes before the PPV main card kicks off alongside Brendan Sokler, Stephanie Sottile moderating the chat and Olive being a fat baby and giving her thoughts throughout the event. Here’s a look at the UFC 276: ‘Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier’ Main Event PPV fight card & current records — ESPN+ PPV MAIN CARD | 10/7PM ETPT 12. TITLE FIGHT #1 — UFC MW Championship: Israel Adesanya (22-1) vs. Jared Cannonier (15-5) 11. TITLE FIGHT #2/THE TRILOGY — UFC FW Championship: Alexander Volkanovski (24-1) vs. Max Holloway (23-6) 10. 185lbs: Sean Strickland (25-3) vs. Alex Pereira (5-1) 9. 170lbs: Robbie Lawler (29-15) vs. Bryan Barberena (17-8) 8. 135lbs: Pedro Munhoz (19-7) vs. Sean O’Malley (15-1) Check out our dual-site run, COMBAT CULTURE YouTube Channel, for more MMA variety & content, visit both BloodyElbow.com & MMAmania.com online, as well as on twitter and IG - we work together every Pay-Per-View (PPV) event in order to make this show available everywhere. Robbie 'Ruthless' Lawler 'For sure' Open to Boxing Jake Paul | Interview

Robbie 'Ruthless' Lawler 'For sure' Open to Boxing Jake Paul | Interview
UFC and MMA legend “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler is coming off of a UFC 266 TKO victory over Nick Diaz, & is now gearing up for a UFC 276 bout with Bryan Barberena on July 2. Before mixing it up, Lawler sat down with Bloody Elbow to discuss the origins of his nickname, an openness to superfights/novelty bouts, eating for performance for the past 20+ years, & nostalgia for the days of fight shorts plastered with an assortment of sponsorship patches. Q1: Your violent fighting style really is “Ruthless,” so where did you get your nickname from? Q2: Everyone deals with a certain level of stress, or fear, going into a fight. Since, you’ve put in so much time over the years, would you say the nerves are the same as when you first started, or have they changed in any way? Q3: Over the course of a 20+ year career, you’re developed a reputation for always showing up in shape and ready to bang. How have you remained so disciplined for so long? Q4: You have been competing for pretty much your entire adult life. Has there ever been a time when you haven’t had to be on your diet? Q5: The last time we talked you told me about how you were doing the Kill Cliffs, and how part of your supplement routine was adding in the CBD. Would you say that’s also one of the ways you stay away from the sugar, which can be really detrimental to weight cuts? Q6: So you’re gearing up for UFC 276 on July 2, 2022 to face Bryan Barberena. I remember you telling me how your rematch with Nick Diaz really had you fired up, and now you’re fighting Barberena, who is solid and all — but do you feel like you’ve had to find some extra motivation to get up for this one? Q7: How many more fights do you have left on your contract? Q8: Everyone says that MMA is a young man’s game, but time and time again we keep seeing veterans rise to the top. How long do you think you can actively continue to fight at this level? Q9: You have definitely paid your dues, and then some. Can you see yourself ever doing a novelty fight after your UFC career? Like a boxing match or grappling event? Q10: Before you call it a career, would you want a superfight with anyone? Maybe something that isn’t just a regular fight, like a Conor McGregor, or perhaps someone in a different weight class? Q11: I think Dana White recently said that Nate Diaz should go ahead and just box Jake Paul, even though he’s still under UFC contract. Would you be open to something along those lines? Q12: I have this idea that the UFC should do away with the win bonus, double the show money, and then replace the performance bonuses with finish bonuses — keeping Fight of the Night of course — Do you think that would promote more finishes and prevent guys from playing it safe? Q13: I definitely respect that, but it would be nice if everyone had the same sort of style as Robbie Lawler. I will say that. Q14: That reminds me of one of your protégés, Logan Storley, who stuck to his guns and just captured Bellator’s interim welterweight title. He did what you just said by not doing anything other than playing his game and getting the win — and it paid off for him. Q15: Are you really enjoying coaching, and do you pretty much see yourself doing it forever? Q16; Who are some of your sponsors that you’d like to give a shout out to? Q17: Do you ever miss the days of the fight shorts covered in the sponsorship logos, or do you prefer the uniforms? Q18: Do you think we’ll ever get back to that, or are uniforms here to stay? You can follow Eddie on twitter — @TheEddieMercado and you can find us @BloodyElbow. Check out Robbie Lawler’s official twitter while you’re there — @Ruthless_RL.
