She Lost Her Stomach for Content

She Lost Her Stomach for Content
This week's interview is a revisit with Heather McGregor who was on the podcast back in Season 1, Episode 52. I've invited her back because she changed the name of her business and the way she describes what she does; I was itching for the opportunity to talk to her about that process, about changing her language so her messaging is a better reflection of her work. I ask about the pushback she has received and we explore why she thinks we need to go dark to find our way. Of course I ask about the term "Dark Marketing". I hope you enjoy hearing how Heather has accepted this evolution of her business - especially if you've been fighting changing your own business or messaging. You're stepping into the unknown when you're walking into the Dark...Other Points of Note:Original Interview with Heather McGregor: play.acast.com/s/connections-coffee-confidence/not-living-the-cookie-cutter-lifeheathermcgregor.ca/Facebook: www.facebook.com/Heather.McGrInstagram: www.instagram.com/quantum.tone/Enjoy the podcast? Is Social Media a Necessary Evil?

Is Social Media a Necessary Evil?
I watched an interview with a content director of a company that drops a new product on IG five days a week and I was struck with two emotions. My first was awe at this strategy as an audience engagement and sales tactic. My second was one of dismay. Because when the average business owner or content creator sees that headline and suddenly social media becomes overwhelming. A small business will look at this and think they can't do that and actually run their business so they can’t do social media, it's not for them. And then they panic because social media is how they reach new customers and the doom loop continues. And none of that is necessarily true. This episode outlines the myths around social media being your business' be-all/end-all for longevity.Key Points: The idea that...being omnipresent on social media doesn’t necessarily benefit you as much as it might the person telling you it will.being omnipresent on social doesn’t serve all business goals.being omnipresent on social doesn’t suit every business’s communications goals or style.you must be on social media all the time doesn’t work for everybody. Also mentioned:Create Your Social Media Content Strategy. Content Creation Workflow
It’s always interesting to see how other creatives and professionals work, isn't it? To see what their environment is like. Where they take inspiration from. How they actually do the work. And so I thought I’d share a bit about my process, a peak behind the curtain, as more and more of us realize we are content creators.I kinda feel like a basking shark. You know those sharks that filter feed? They just swim through the water with their mouths open, gathering all of the plankton, leaving behind what they don’t need.Key Points:The Physical and Emotional Workspace (2:00)The Importance of a Plan (6:47)The Inspiration: like a basking shark (8:57)The Creation Process (13:24)The Programs I Use (15:39)Also Mentioned:Episode 113 How to Use Social Media for Content Research: messaging workbook - Clear messaging is the foundation of your entire communications and marketing strategy.
