EP39: Ignite Your Life with Travis Belanger
“You need to invest in yourself so that everybody else around you can benefit.” — Travis Belanger   Travis Belanger, a dynamic coach, provides emphasis on the importance of redefining wellness for men. When men are asked by people who they are, a lot will typically answer by saying what they do for work not about who they are as a person.   A roadblock for personal development is the patterns: the generational trauma or even generational behaviours. Travis is thankful that as a child his parents for providing books promoting different ways of thinking creating awareness at an early age. When he was 19 and moved to the city, an influential man gave him a book entitled “How To Win Friends and Influence People” which he describes as something that tweaked his brain.  Travis shares his experience of a friend who thanks him for saving his marriage just because Travis had advised him to read a book. It is from there that he states that a lot of guys don't share those experiences because it's vulnerable, emotional and sensitive but for Travis, he portrays a “who cares?” mindset as long as it would help a person’s life to be better. A wellness practice Travis is currently fond of is cranial sacral therapy. He says that with this practice, you're focused on something completely different than what you normally are.  Ignite Your Life Brotherhood is an initiative by Travis that is mainly focused on men’s personal development to break stereotypes of men being afraid of vulnerability and expressing their emotional needs. It is a safe container for guys to have a conversation that they really want to have.   Wellness Nuggets ●     Listening to something that's other than your work that is good for your mind that talks about your body and your heart ●        Reading a book inspires us to think in a different way ●        Spend money on quality tools because what you put in is what you get out   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU!   About the Guest: Travis Belanger is a dynamic coach, speaker, best-selling co-author and founder of Men On Fire. EP38: The Body is the Starting Point to Wellness with Joan Small
“The body is the starting point to healing because it tells us the truth.” — Joan Small As she discovers the Rubenfeld Synergy Technique, Joan Small became more invested in integrating the body, mind, emotions and even spirit to have whole-person wellness. It was pointed out that our bodies speak to us metaphorically. In some cases, we tend to say, for example, “my husband is a pain in the neck.” and there is a strong possibility that there is an actual, physical pain in the neck. To maintain our wellness, it’s important to have awareness of what’s going on in the body. Listening touch is a modality that is a combination of touch and talk, where it connects the body through the sense of touch via the unconscious mind. As a synergist, Joan can feel what’s going on in her client’s body, whether it is conducive to what the client is saying. Touch can be seen as a response or a reflection of what is going on in your life, connecting it to a huge part of the healing process. When we get triggered, we get pulled out of our bodies. A system called Shuttling is her way to pull herself back together; it is a split-second thing of going back into your body. Due to the limitations brought upon the pandemic, Joan has decided to step into doing her sessions virtually through Zoom. The way the energy connects through imaging is the same as how it is person-to-person.   Wellness Nuggets: ●       Awareness is 80% of the healing process ●       Touch is a viable form of communication ●       Intentional touch is what creates trust and safety ●       Our body is like a story that holds things at a cellular level ●       Any great coach has their own coach ●       It’s important to have humour in our lives   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! About the Guest: The integration of body, mind, emotions have always fascinated Certified Synergist, Joan Small. Having actively studied different, life-affirming modalities, Joan decided to combine this expertise with her passion for holistic healthcare through an integrative method called Rubenfeld Synergy. Her method of guiding clients helps them to identify and overcome deep-seated patterns, and traumatic experiences, that can develop into actual physical and emotional ailments. EP37: The Power of YOUR Presence with Lesley Evans
At some point in her life, Lesley Evans realized that the concept of how we were supposed to sacrifice ourselves for the happiness others is not what she wanted for her daughters. That deep rooted lesson that everything is about self-sacrifice. Lesley emphasizes that while we are paying attention togoing through the steps in therapy, it is also important to piece it together with our purpose and passion. It’s is hard to proceed with the steps in the process if we do not know the reason why we want to feel better. In this conversation, Lesley and Jenny truthfully showed that doing the work is not going to be easy but then, taking them as small, simple but consistent steps will eventually lead us where we need to be. “Wellness is all about alignment with who you are as a person and who you are as a soul.” — Lesley Evans Many of us, tend to question our “life purpose” and this is where the practice of mindfulness and being in your presence comes into play. Practice this by looking more into what you are currently doing and adding to that once you’re ready. A technique that Lesley taught us is the transition steps we do throughout the day; this is when we move from one place to another. Oftentimes, we overlook this and treat these steps as just a normal part of our day. However, it creates a different impact if we focus more on the movement we do, the balance we have, and even the breeze we feel.   For those of you who are interested Lesley briefly introduced that the Akashic record is where we find the book of our soul or basically our soul’s journey.   Wellness Nuggets: ●       Understanding our purpose and our why for the decisions we make is important ●       Give yourself some grace and you can choose at any moment to get back to taking those steps  to healing ●       Being more in the present does not mean adding an extra thing to your day ●       Focus on the process of walking, it will create a new awareness  We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! About the Guest: Lesley is an International Best-Selling Author of “DeFUNK YourSELF".  She worked as a traditional therapist before she sought training in alternative therapies and discovered she was highly intuitive. EP36: Muscle Tuning for Overall Health with Denise Cambiotti
“Wellness is when you’re thriving and radiating and not just getting through your day.” — Denise Cambiotti   Muscle testing or muscle tuning, from their company name itself, is a proprietary technique that releases the emotional and electrical stress of the muscles, tendons and even ligaments. It creates a domino stress release that communicates with the body systems, from the lymph, blood and even nerves. It is overall connected to a meridian system, to the organs and glands of the body.  This modality is meant to be practiced face-to-face but due to the changes of the modern age, they decided to switch over to recordings and finally to follow-up sessions that they do through Zoom nowadays. They make sure to monitor how their clients are working through the process. While muscle testing, reflexes are activated where acupressure points are identified, to be followed by what specific technique in muscle tuning is applied.  More than her own profession, Denise makes sure to seek professional help on tapping techniques, reflexology and even clinical counselling. She’s aware of the importance of going to people that will listen and offer her a suggestion. In this way, she’s able to keep track of what she needs to improve in her behaviour and overall wellbeing.   Wellness Nuggets: ●       Muscle tuning activate and work with reflex points ●       In this modality, things shift and pivot in an instant but it leads to a longer and healthier life ●       Don’t wait until it’s too late because if you say I’ll do it when and when comes then you will be on a longer road to wellness   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! EP35: A Glimpse Of Hope On Dealing With Trauma with Dawn Taylor
“Your physical space matches your mental space.” — Dawn Taylor   Dawn Taylor shared with us her personal experience in dealing with trauma in a much less intimidating way. The best way to start a healing journey is by first assessing the little things; from as simple as what your space looks like, what food are you eating, what are you watching or reading. The healing journey is different for everyone and so it is crucial to find someone that resonates with you. A lot of people with trauma are afraid of hurting other people with their stories. With that analysis, she chose to approach her craft differently in a way that her clients would feel more comfortable digging a deeper level with her. Sit with your feelings and figure out what hurts and what about it is hurting so deeply. We're too fast to just distract and shut down the negative because the negative feels bad but the truth is what’s worse is escaping it.  It is very important, as humans, to feel our pain because our brains need to process that pain in order for us to function. Dawn gives us this sense of assurance that trauma does not necessarily have to be something that is major. If your nervous system was disturbed in any way, it causes that sense of trauma even if it is something big or small. If the impact of what happened to you was not just as severe as what happened to me, does not mean it’s not valid.   Wellness Nuggets: ●       When you talk with your person, coach, or counsellor, ask them about the hardest thing they’ve had to overcome in their lives. If they're not willing to answer, they're not the right fit for you. ●       Continue fighting for yourself ●       “One step”. Life is hard, sometimes we can only get through the day, an hour or even 60 seconds. ●       Setting up a timer helps to keep track and remind ourselves that we’ve already gone through at least 10 minutes.   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! About the Guest: Dawn Taylor is the professional ass-kicker, hope giver, international trauma specialist, life coach strategist, and all-around badass. Dawn's journey into helping others heal began when she took her personal recovery from the trauma she experienced in her life into her own hands. While at times unconventional, Dawn's strategic methods have helped hundreds heal from issues related to childhood abuse, PTSD, to severe anxiety and depression. EP34: Healing from Trauma - The Journey from Suffering To Empowerment with Kim Wilkinson
“Become comfortable with the uncomfortable”  — Kim Wilkinson   Growing up, we have not been taught by society how to manage our emotional health; from our emotional experiences, trauma, grief and every root of it all. We’re told to brush it off or just be strong and never fully feel our unpleasant experiences which results in them being unresolved. However, these ways are practiced unconsciously but little do we know that it affects and serves us in our adulthood. We were so conditioned to think, act and believe otherwise that we lose our authentic selves in the process.   Kim Wilkinson teaches us to open ourselves to the hard truth of painful experiences. You can't fix change or heal what you're not aware of but when you become more aware of your emotions and the why behind things. Things make so much sense that everything becomes so much more clear within yourself and with other people.   When you change your perception of the word and its context, it can be powerful and freeing. For example, the word “guilt” in the context of the court of law, means “with the intention to cause harm” but what you did was never intended and so should not be associated with guilt. It can be changed to “ regret”.   Kim tackled triggers with a different perspective in which she states that triggers are an energetic sensation in the body that is trying to get attention to direct us to what needs to be healed. Instead of avoiding and escaping away from the triggers, why not acknowledge and listen to our bodies. It doesn't go away until you actually bring it to the surface, understand it, and find some completion with it then you're free. Connected with all that, Kim bravely showed her vulnerability through her personal experience of grief and how her personal experiences brought her to this purposeful work she’s doing.     Wellness Nuggets: ●       Forgiveness is letting go of the hope of a different or better yesterday ●       Find a different perspective on some of the languages that we use ●       You take care of your emotional health and you will heal physically ●       Grief and trauma comes in different forms ●       Trauma-informed yoga is a great way to reconnect with the body ●       Triggers directs us where we need to be healed   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU!   About the Guest: Kim Wilkinson is a Trauma & Grief Recovery Coach and Spiritual Empowerment Coach. EP33: The Gift of Life Force Breathwork With Nicole Nykolaishyn
Nicole Nykolaishyn simply explains that breathwork is basically breathing with intention. Breathwork is a very powerful and profound experience and tool for healing, building resilience, getting yourself grounded and even energizing. It’s a way of supporting the body holistically; from body, mind and soul. Hence, for Nicole, she considers this as a self-love approach in building self-awareness, self-empowerment and inner peace.  As a proud mom, also emphasizes the importance of engaging with children to use breath as a tool. The best way to have children get into it is by keeping it fun and utilizing an energizing breath at the same time. “Our breath is with us wherever we go every day, all the time, we can utilize it in any moment we need. It’s a gift that healing can give you in that exact moment we need it.” — Nicole Nykolaishyn Breathwork sessions with Nicole can be done either individually or by group and in-person or online. Daily breathwork can be done in 5 minutes but sessions with Nicole can range from 45 up to 90 minutes where it is more of a transformational and healing type of practice.  Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. If you want to feel energized and heightened, increase it with the depths of your breaths. If you want to feel more relaxed, slow down breathing out or exhale slowly. The key to breathwork is to do it in circular motions, meaning let it flow into your body without any pauses. Let it flow and feel connected with your breath.   Wellness Nuggets: ●       In comparison with meditation, breathwork takes you to where you need to go a lot faster through oxygenating your body. ●       Short breathwork sessions can be done daily to get yourself centred ●       Breathwork can be done anytime anywhere ●    Breathing up into our chest = stress state/fight or flight, Breathing with chest and belly = calming down our nervous system/parasympathetic ●       The longer the exhale, the more relaxed you’re going to be ●   To achieve the circular motion breathwork, picture anything continuous like a fountain, spinning top, etc.   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! About the Guest: Nicole Nykolaishyn is a Proud Mom, Best-Selling Author and Breathwork Facilitator on a mission to support women through breathwork to find their way back to who they are truly meant to be — for inner peace, confidence, and freedom. EP32: Plant-Based Eating for the (Wellness) Win! with Kathy Davis
Kathy Davis explained what plant-based means and that is she feels better when she eats more plant-based food. She states that plant-based is a definition of whole plant foods that are as close to nature intended. The biggest advice Kathy has for people switching to plant-based is slowly incorporating plant-based into their lifestyle and not immediately changing everything. Utilize what is already familiar to you and everyone in your family. How you create your transition plan depends on what you are trading, may it be time or even your budget. It’s all about finding the perfect balance between your plan and your current lifestyle.   She also shares her personal recipes for breakfast, lunch, and even snack time. For breakfast: ●       Half a cup of rolled oats ●       Half a cup of non-dairy milk (Kathy prefers unsweetened soy milk) ●       Half a cup of frozen blueberries (can be equated to about a teaspoon to a tablespoon of maple syrup) ●       A teaspoon of ground flax Let it sit overnight in the fridge or for how long you have. If you like it warm, you can opt to put it into the microwave for 30 seconds.   For lunch, ●       Boil potatoes, bake potatoes, or cook brown rice ●       Prepare a salad ●       While reheating the rice or potatoes, chop up vegetables ●       Add some spinach, beans, usually garbanzo chickpeas salad ●       Add some vegan dressing, maybe balsamic vinegar, and tahini, or maybe it's maple syrup and mustard ●       Think about what flavours you are wishing to experience in your salad.   For snack, ●       Hummus with chickpeas (either homemade or canned) ●       If making hummus from scratch consider adding some tahini, lemon, cumin, garlic and balsamic vinegar. Kathy does not add oil ●       Choose your favourite vegetables ●       For crunch cravings, baked tostada chips, Wasa crackers, Mary’s crackers or low-fat Triscuits   When working with Kathy, you can expect a deep discussion around goals and strategies coupled with a year-long program. She takes a look at what is driving the decision to eat more plants and then maps out what eating more plants looks like for you.   “Focus on eating more plants, make it accessible, make it one step at a time and just enjoy what mother nature gives us.”  — Kathy Davis     Wellness Nuggets: ●       People go vegan for animals, but they eat plant-based for their health. ●       Add in more plants to your meal ●       Look at the amount of processed food you get in your meals and evaluate if there is a way that you can swamp in more whole foods ●       When switching out foods, use familiar food to help with the transition. These are here examples: ○       vegetable broth for chicken broth ○       non-dairy products for the dairy products in place that you can control ○       unsweetened yogurt ○       cooking without oil ○       the brand of potato chips. ●       Plant-based is more than just a food but a mindset with a light body and clearer headspace ●       Swap out the processed food in your afternoon snack for fruit or veggies, add a salad or a vegetable soup   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! About the Guest: Kathy Davis is a plant-based accountability and empowerment coach, the CEO of VegInspired, and the author of three cookbooks: the 30-Minute-Whole-Food-Plant-Based cookbook, the Super-Easy-Plant-Based cookbook, and the Budget-Friendly Plant-Based Diet cookbook. EP31: Understanding Energy and Vibration with Permelia Parham
Permelia is passionate about studying and understanding energy and vibration. People are all made up of vibration, which we don’t necessarily think about. We are our own electromagnetic field, which some people call an “aura”. It is part of who we are just as much as our physicality is a part of us.   “The world needs all of us out there serving” — Permelia Parham   The main modality that Vibrational Healing offers is the Body Code and the Emotion Code that was created by Dr. Bradley Nelson who was a chiropractor for many years. He created this protocol where practitioners can identify what are the emotions that could be stuck in the subconscious, this is all done with the client’s consent.   If the emotions are in the subconscious and not in the cognitive brain, people don’t even know that they’re there. The trapped emotions can come from different situations like for instance an incident, accident, trauma, inherited from your parents, or even prenatal. The goal is to find these trapped emotions from the subconscious brain and release them. It does not mean that once it’s released once, it’s gone. Trapped emotions have layers depending on age which, Permila compares to an onion. The more layers we have, the underlying layers need more healing. When these trapped emotions are released, clients feel lighter, tingly, and may even experience yawning as these “balls of negative energy” are being released. This process helps the physical body and the energic body get back into sync.   “It's so important for us to know our own bodies and understand our own bodies and know what keeps us healthy.” — Permelia Parham   Wellness Nuggets: ●    You can absorb trapped emotions from other people ●    The subconscious brain has 90% cognitive function versus 10% of the cognitive brain ●    An institute in California is continually finding that our heart has a stronger brain than the actual brain ●    In a session, around 10 to 20 trapped emotions or more can be found depending on the issue and what the client’s what to work on. ● 1 session is good but you may need multiple sessions to get into all those layers that require healing.   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! About the Guest: Permelia Parham is a Certified Body Code and Emotion Practitioner. EP30: Workplace Wellness with Gail Korpan
“Wellness means that everything is integrated into my health. My world is integrated, and what I think, how I feel, and what I speak are all the same.” — Gail Korpan   For Gail Korpan, the hardest thing to implement putting herself first is setting the boundaries of saying no and just knowing that saying no is putting yourself first. Jenny, as someone who is service-oriented and champions others, is learning the process of putting herself first and giving herself some time to breathe. When asked if she can commit to a project for example she will respond with “I’ll have to get back to you” when she wants to say “yes” to things.   Gail shares how an empath has 10 different layers and it means that: when someone has this kind of gift, when they enter a room, they can feel the energy in the room. Those that are an empath can listen to the body and know what it needs. When people are not aware that they’re an empath, it can be quite confusing as they would easily pick up the feelings and energy around them. It is a skill set that should be recognized and practiced.   “Redefining wellness is important to healing because it’s more than a treat.” — Gail Korpan   We live in a different world than our parents grew up in where there’s a lot more computer work and stationary sedentary work. There can be a lot of stagnancies that get held in our bodies. We need to get help in releasing some of the things that the world is putting on us. If we’re not putting our wellness first, it will be pushed to the back burner.   According to Gail, the key benefit of regular massage visits is that there is trust and energy built into the process. She offers smudging, during her massage services a method, that cleanses their aura, settles them into the massage. Massage health benefits are all about putting your wellness first.   The reason why Gail does what she does is that she came from the office working space where she spent three decades. She visualizes that people could have personalized holistic breaks for themselves, promoting the idea of wellness in the workplace. One of the services she offers is chair massage. It can be done for 15 minutes to release stress in the neck and even help headaches; even elbows and lower backs can be treated.   The landscape is changing in work and businesses need to create a healthy working environment. Let your business owners know or if you’re a business owner, take a leap in prioritizing the wellness of your employees.   Wellness Nuggets: ●     Say “I’ll have to get back to you” if you’re having a hard time saying no. ●     The next big health crisis is people being sedentary. ●  Regular massage visits can help in clearing your mind and giving yourself permission to let somebody else move for you. ●   American companies spend around $300 billion on absenteeism, poor health, or poor job performance. ● Job stress is 40% of the reason why companies turn over their employees.   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! EP29: Energy, Spirit, and Death with Psychic Medium Sheetal Story
“Wellness really has to live in all of those three spheres of the mind-body-spirit triad for you to really have an aligned life.” — Sheetal Story   Sheetal highlights her love for astrology to navigate energy. As of recording this podcast,  we are on the dark side of the moon where the moon is losing light. So a lot of people are feeling tired and feeling like there's not a lot of energy in the air. Sometimes, we feel like we should be always producing or we should always have the energy but other times, we feel the extreme opposite like crying and that’s just part of the moon cycle.   People are energetic beings having this human experience. There is an energy that beats your heart. That's a synopsis of your cells, your nerves, your brain waves. This can be measured with EKG monitors to see the energies working in the body. When that energy ceases to exist in the body, you take your last breath and now you are in the world of energy.   “What we focus our mind on, we can actually make happen in the world of energy and physicality” — Sheetal Story   Sheetal shed light on intuition, and intuition development, the most significant step is intention setting. As soon as you are conscious of the day, set your intention and see how it affects your day. Another is to visualize or feel that you are in an energy bubble where only your energy stays in this certain bubble and only positivity can enter.   “Your intuition lives in the place of your imagination” — Sheetal Story   Meditation is the key gateway to everything as it is the observer of your thoughts; it is not stopping your thoughts or slowing them down. A really great starting point for beginners in finding grace and peace is through counting your breath. Breathing practices can oxygenate your brain and slow everything down when everything feels rushed. The single-point and awareness meditations are the easiest way to start as a beginner because your mind is focusing on one thing, as opposed to the chatter in your mind. So if you give your mind something to focus on, instead it then redirects your mind to your breath versus the internal chatter.   As a grief counsellor, Sheetal also imparts her sentiments on death and grief. If we encounter someone who’s going through grief,  it's okay to not know what to say, but really what they want is just someone to be there. A common idea about death is that it’s hard, however, in the aspect of energy, its concept is that you go back to the energy world when you take your last breath. You’re in this presence that you can see and feel everything.   We in our current state walk in the world of energy and physicality, so we have a lot of power. We often forget this power of our being and why we're here and our purpose. Remember your personal purpose, your intention, and everything that you focus on can become reality.   Wellness Nuggets: ●       Your body is your vehicle in this lifetime for your spirit. ●       When we listen to ourselves and we listen to the cycles of the energy around us, we start to flow. ●       The universe shows you where you need to go and it is up to you to follow the flag if you will. ●       We are all born intuitive. ●       Set an intention first thing in the morning. ●       Breathing practice for three minutes. Deep breath through your nose, out through your mouth 3 times. Then in natural breath count your breath to a hundred. Note that every time you lose count, you have to start back at one and see how far you get. Make it a practice for seven days. ●       Some applications for breathing practices: Breathwork, Counting, Guided Meditation, etc.   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! EP28: The Story You Tell, The Wellness You Feel with Susan Binnie
“Wellness is awareness of what I need in every moment to feel better about who I am and how I'm portraying myself to the world.” — Susan Binnie Susan Binnie, as an empowerment-coach, strongly believes in removing the word “can’t” in other people’s stories. One of the biggest things to overcoming this is through Reframing. People need to change the way they talk to themselves; so instead of saying “I’m not strong enough to do this.”, say “ I'm able to do this. I've got this.” Get out of the stories you’re telling yourselves and give yourself positive affirmations of who you are and not put yourself in this imposter syndrome dialogue.  One of the biggest barriers that prevent people from giving themselves positive affirmations is self-judgement. People tend to beat themselves up based on a story that they believe that someone else has told them. Self-judgement is about working through knowing that you are good enough. It's not focusing so much on the outcome because the outcome can change, but what do you want to happen from the actions that you're doing today?  It is highly important that, as humans, we recognize if we’re not feeling well and we have to ask ourselves why. Then we need to drill down on the why, this will help us understand what triggered our emotions. In looking at the past in your journey of healing, make sure to ask yourself what strength did you develop from those experiences, what resilience did you capture at that moment and what do you need to let go of. The biggest advice that we could give to someone that is healing is to champion self love. If you need help, reach out and ask for it because it’s right beside you. After all, we are a creature that was designed to be in a community to have support and help each other. When we are in service to ourselves, we are in service to others.   “ Yes, you can. Yes, you will. Because yes you are.” — Susan Binnie Wellness Nuggets: ●    You are good enough and others haven't experienced everything you have. ●  People are going to judge you regardless. They're gonna look at you the way they want, and it's what's going on for them. It's not what's going on for you. ●    The word “successful” is defined differently for everyone. ●    Only tell yourself what is true for you and not what others are telling you. ●    Tragedies, obstacles, bad stories and bad things are not happening TO you. They’re happening FOR you. ●    Our mind is a powerful wellness gift. We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! EP27: Gratitude Can Change Your Brain
Practicing gratitude is something so simple yet so powerful and impactful to our overall health and wellbeing. UCLAs Mindfulness Awareness Research Center proved that gratitude changes our brain, specifically the gray matter of our brain. The gray matter is made up of the cell bodies of nerve cells which functions as an information processor. When the gray matter is able to process thoughts such as gratitude, it leads to a healthier and happier brain. More so, Chinese researchers found that high levels of gratitude were associated with better sleep and lower levels of anxiety and depression. A study at the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkley revealed that people who wrote their gratitude letters have a higher active function in their prefrontal cortex as shown in their brain scans.  One of the best tools we can use for our overall health is a gratitude practice. This practice is something that could help us potentially heal and become the healthiest version of ourselves. When we say healing, it is not just healing our physical selves but also acknowledging other areas of our mind, body and soul. More than that, gratitude does not only affect our own beings but also our relationships. With gratitude people actually feel connected and in touch with experiences especially when they acknowledge the things they have instead of the things they do not have. In this way, we become less materialistic because we acknowledge what is actually filling us up throughout the day. Doing a gratitude practice can range from being thankful for one thing, 10 things or more. It is suggested that you write what you are grateful for but in some cases if you are not fond of writing, at least say them in your mind. The things you are grateful for do not need to be massive major events or difficult ones, it can be as simple as saying thank you to someone for opening the door..   Wellness Nuggets: ●       Some of the things that you can expect from a gratitude practice are a positive mindset, decreased stress, decreased anxiety and depression symptoms, and etc. ●       Journal about your gratitude to celebrate your wins no matter how small or big they are. ●       Share your gratitude to the people around you. If you’re showing your gratitude, you’re going to experience the same thing and vice versa which will create a domino effect. ●       Have an accountability partner to stay on track and build your practices into a habit. ●       Start small. Practice gratitude, a week, then a month until it becomes part of your lifestyle.   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU!

EP26: Listening to your body through SoulFlow™ with Brenda Juby
SoulFlow™ is an embodiment practice that is done through movement, mantra and dance. It was developed by Andee Love. It is like tapping into that inner core wisdom that we have inside our soul but we don’t know what’s there.  The process will take around 7-9 minutes. In the beginning of the process, people will be put into an intention and a little bit of meditation where we can get mindful of our breathing and start to get into that state where we start listening to what our body is telling us. Through music, the body will start moving and dancing. We need to turn off the mind and start putting into our soul and our heart and just allowing the music to move us. In this way, we start to settle into our nervous system and start to make new neuropathways.  “It’s hard to be well if you’re not resilient.” — Brenda Juby It is significant that we strive for maximum health because holistic health is what everyone deserves. Each part is interrelated and intertwined with each other as it entails everything. It’s when we’re aware of all of it and we’re striving for the best outcomes, we have our best potential, then we can be resilient. When we’re resilient, we‘re able to handle life better. Resiliency is also about understanding our strengths and our challenges. It’s not about negating challenges because we all have them. It takes strength to acknowledge that resilience looks different for everybody and celebrating wins, even the small ones, goes a long way.  Wellness starts with us. No health care provider can do it for you. They can support or walk alongside you but you’re the one who has to do it. Your mind, body, and spirit are the whole picture. The ultimate thing that will keep you always striving is for you to be ultimately healthy, preventive and proactive.  Health and wellness are not for special people only because everyone deserves wellness and to be happy in life. It takes some practice to finally make it a habit but you start from one thing at a time and from there, change happens. It’s about understanding the purpose of what you want to do in the habits.  “Health and wellness is a journey. It’s something that has ups and downs but we just need to be able to move with the flow.” — Brenda Juby Wellness Nuggets: Soulflow has no choreography. You just have to listen to the music and let your body move whatever way it wants to move.  In Soulflow, everyone is encouraged to close their eyes so that they’re not conscious of others and for them to move freely. You, as a person, are the expert of your life.  Anything that’s happening in your own wellness is your journey and if it doesn’t resonate with your being, don’t do it.  Dark chocolate got some healing benefits. Health can be compared to a tire. When a tire has a very slow leak, it’s very easy to reverse that leak. You have a tire that's gonna massive gouge out of it. It's a whole process to go back into healing that tire or making it be able to sustain air.  Health does not have to be expensive. It can be as simple as meditating, asking yourself how have you been or even taking a walk. We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! About the Guest: Brenda Juby is an international bestselling author, mentor, soulflow embodiment facilitator, and speaker. Previously as a Registered Nurse and educator in the health care field. Brenda empowered students and staff to explore their ways of thinking so they could tap into their inner resilience and improve both their personal and professional lives. Brenda has experienced many life-changing events which awakened her spirituality and provided her the opportunity to understand how the experiences even challenging ones enhanced her life. She now takes these powerful learnings and shares them with others to inspire hope and provide hope and help them create resilience.  Facebook Personal: https://www.facebook.com/brenda.juby.31...

EP25: The Power of Naturopathic Medicine with Dr.Candice Staniek
Dr. Candice shares her thoughts on what wellness means to her, “wellness is at the center of everything we do, plain and simple.”   Naturopathic medicine is not a cookie-cutter approach. It is different from the 10- or 15-minute visit that you might traditionally get. Another thing to note is Naturopathic doctors receive over 800 hours of training and in natural modalities. Providing these doctors, a broad resource when it comes to diagnosing and providing treatment. This is ideal for those seeking an individualized treatment or plan.   Naturopathic medicine is based on 5 guiding principles;  ·       The Healing Power of Nature. o   Naturopathic doctors recognize and harness the body’s inherent wisdom to heal itself in order to guide patients to wellness and total health. ·       Identify and Treat the Causes o   Most naturopathic patients will benefit from identifying the underlying causes of illness and removing obstacles to cure. ·       Doctor as Teacher o   Naturopathic doctors elevate patient health literacy. That means that NDs are part of the team helping patients have a better understanding of what it takes to be and stay well. Through education and a trust-based relationship, patients better understand the steps they need to take to achieve and maintain health. ·       Treat the Whole Person o   Naturopathic doctors understand the interconnectedness of our body, our environment and our lifestyle on total health. It is only through this whole-person-based approach that NDs seek to restore balance and health. ·       Prevention o   Naturopathic medicine affirms that it is better to prevent illness and suffering whenever possible. Through their comprehensive practice, NDs combine all six principles in order to identify potential areas of imbalance and teach patients how to get well and stay well.   “People want a doctor that will spend time with them. Naturopathic doctors spend about an hour or more on the first visit identifying the history and then making a treatment plan.” ~ Dr. Candice Staniek   Dr. Candice talks about the importance of being conscious of what we are consuming when it comes to our overall health. It is not just the food we eat that impacts our wellness it is what we watch, read, even the people we spend our time with. When we were discussing redefining wellness, this is what Dr. Candice had to say, “I think the first thing that pops to mind is self-awareness. And again, this goes to every area of your life. I think that the self-awareness piece is huge. And I think it doesn't get enough emphasis in terms of how someone's doing.”   When we think about our overall health and wellness it is important to remember we all have a choice.   Wellness Nuggets; ·        Confirm the credentials of someone treating you, you have a right to know ·        Overall health encompasses all of your being, mind body and spirit ·        Align yourself with like-minded people on your wellness journey ·        Seek professional advice not social media for answers ·        Nutrients is a top priority when it comes to health   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! As an out-of-the-box thinker and naturopathic doctor, Dr. Candice strives to provide guidance and tools so you can return to balance and wellness. EP24: Ayurveda and the body types: Ancient Wellness System with Kendra Irvine
“Wellness is the promotion of body harmony for the individual. It is things that are within our environment. It’s how we experience our lives through all five of our senses.” — Kendra Irvine   Ayurveda is an ancient wellness system that has been around for thousands of years. When you take the Sanskrit word, it translates to life science, meaning it takes into account the natural laws. We, as humans, come from nature and in nature, there are five elements such as air, space, fire, water and earth. Thus, as humans coming from nature, our bodies are also composed of these five elements. Once we understand what qualities are associated with certain elements (fire = hot, sharp and mobile), we can now recognize when our bodies become out of balance or in the form of a disease. For instance, inflammation, its element is fire which means that it has qualities of hot, sharp and mobile. With that, it can be treated with its opposite qualities such as cold, dull and stagnant. Inflammation is a fire that falls into the Pitta type. Once the imbalance is figured out, a treatment program is curated specifically to nourish the imbalance or known as the Dosha. Imbalances can be treated through a dietary/food approach or through your lifestyle/mind.   “There's plenty of time for it to start to evolve and really work in someone's favour to keep their bodies in harmony and in wellness instead of battling illness all the time.” — Kendra Irvine   Understanding Dosha;  Someone who is VATA has air and space as their dominant elements. They are the creative types and can change their mind often. Physically, they are skinny with long fingers, smaller eyes and nose, thin lips, and scanty hair. When they are out of balance, they easily get overwhelmed, scattered, or fearful. They are brought back into balance with the heavier earth and water elements and would benefit from heavier foods and warm sesame oil self-massage. Someone who is PITTA has fire and a bit of water as their dominant elements. They are the born leaders and they ensure they get stuff done. Physically, they have more muscle, medium fingers with square palms, medium and deep-set eyes, moderate lip size, and thin but lots of hair. When they are out of balance, they get critical, intense, and get annoyed easily. They get heated! They are brought back into balance with cooling and heavy foods as well as a cooling coconut oil self-massage.  Someone who is KAPHA has earth and water as their dominant elements. They are stable, compassionate, and give the best hugs! Physically, they are full-figured and have soft features, dewy skin, thick hair, lips and gorgeous eyes that draw you in. When they are out of balance, they get lethargic, clingy, and unmotivated. They are brought back into balance with light and warming qualities such as salads and spicier foods as well as deep tissue massage to break up stagnation.    Wellness Nuggets: ●       Take the elements and their qualities, find out their opposites, and treat them with the opposite. ●       In nature, there are 10 pairs of qualities known as the Gunas. These are the following: hot, sharp, cloudy, clear, mobile, stagnant, etc. ●       Three types: Vata, Pitta and Kapha ●       Rose essential oils, Aloe veras and coconut oils are recommended to treat inflammation. It can also be a form of giving yourself an actual rose. ●       Bring into the environment through all five senses to nourish it through opposite qualities. (This may come in the form of food, colour, etc.) ●       Our bodies’ natural constitutions differ through the seasons so treatment plans change accordingly.   We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! EP23: Redefine Success with Elegance With Theresa Lambert
“Wellness begins with acknowledging and honouring the parts of ourselves that are human.” — Theresa Lambert This episode tackles how business and success connect with wellness. It is common for people to think that in order to be successful, we have to grind and hustle and force our way to get there. However, that becomes exhausting when we constantly overachieve, overcommit or overwork ourselves. It is a different kind of quality outcome when success came from certain enthusiasm instead of pressure and force. Start with creating awareness and recognition within yourself by asking yourself questions and answering them truthfully. Admit when you are feeling uncomfortable with things. Once that is settled, we can move from awareness to intention n or when something can be a responsibility or put into action. From that place, we can reverse engineer our goals. Set a vision that is different from your goal based on a feeling, in that way, you’ll have access to it every day. Create awareness, start an intention and enjoy the process. Forget the timeline and drop the pressure.  Success comes in different times and forms for different people.   “I have found to be most powerful is to actually create a vision of your life based on how you desire to feel rather than what you desire to achieve.” — Theresa Lambert Wellness Nuggets: ●      When we acknowledge ourselves, we're really able to create things that leave a much more long-lasting impact and what building success from a sustainable place. ●      Ask yourself the following questions: -       Who are you doing it all for and why? -       What is it that I actually want? (If you want to feel accomplished, empowered, energized) -       What could I do today that would help me feel accomplished and empowered or energized? -       Could you prove to the court of law that you cannot take a break? -       How can I make it more enjoyable? ●      Questioning our thoughts successfully in our minds is an accomplishment ●       Perfectionism is just another label that we put out on ourselves so that we have a reason to struggle ●      People remember how you make them feel, not what you say We invite you to ignite the Wellness Warrior in YOU! EP22: Raising Your Families Mental Health Through the Power of Your Shopping Cart With Katrina Breau
You can impact your mental health through your shopping cart When we are going to the grocery story and filling up our cart for the upcoming meals, many of us don’t think about what we are grabbing. If we think of what is in our shopping cart as the fuel for our daily activities we might start paying a little closer attention. To have healthy fuel doesn’t necessarily have to break the bank. Some foods can be great mood lifters and energy givers. But food choices need to become a habit in order to receive maximum benefits. “We’ve got to build the habits around trying something new.” – Katrina Breau The changes in the fuel/food you consume can change your energy level and your family's as well. EP21: Money Confidence Is For Everyone With Kristin Fortier
Let talk finance! In this episode of Winning with Wellness, Jenny Ryce and Kristin Fortier talked about how wellness and finance coincide and live together. Although this can be a touchy subject in people’s lives it is important to learn about it. Finance has a hold on our lives daily and financial wellness is a key piece to mental health. “A big part of coming through pandemic that we haven't addressed at all is the financial wellness piece, people have never been stressed the way they've been stressed in the last year and a half.” – Kristin Fortier Financial wellness can be in terms of having cash in your bank account, your debt load, or investments or even your insurance. Knowing how much money you have at a certain time helps us sleep at night and is important to our overall wellness. Financial stress is one of the top stressors in people’s lives. To improve financial wellness and your wellness overall you can start with some simple steps. Firstly, start talking about it. Most people don’t talk about their finances. Start with making a budget and understand expenses. Secondly, find someone to be completely transparent with because money is complex. No one is alone in the world of finances. But you need to be honest with yourself because that is the only way to move forward. And yes sometimes it can be embarrassing.   "There's a lot of emotion tied to it. And I find most times people just need to voice some things out. And then as they talk about it, they're like, oh, okay" - Kristin Fortier Each person's situation is different. You can use financial professionals or other forms of help, but make sure you feel safe in the relationship and feel listened to. Wellness Nuggets; ·       Talk about your finances ·       Address financial stress ·       Seek help for bad financial situations ·       Use financial professionals that you have a good relationship with ·       Be transparent to address financial issues ·       Reduced financial stress can improve your overall wellness About the Guest: Kristin Fortier Consulting Inc. was built from a passion for finance and the desire for women to make confident money decisions. Kristin is a Chartered Professional Accountant with over 15 years of corporate finance and accounting experience, as well as 3 years of entrepreneurship. We are our thoughts   Jessica shares with us the importance of owning and changing our narrative. Life is a journey as we evolve our mindset has to evolve. Wellness is a feeling and becoming very clear on how you want to feel will be a vital tool in creating change in your mindset and habit building. This creates a powerful connection to our bodies.   Jessica explains that when you come up against roadblocks or barriers it's really important to dig into the deep level of why you want to accomplish your goal. Surface why’s are not going to maintain your motivation until the goal becomes a habit. Take stock of the habits that you currently have in your life and determine if they are serving you or working against you.
