In light of all that is going on around us, this ToddFather episode is another visit aimed at my kids on defining evil. How are we to avoid evil things if we cannot define what they are?  One of the most important things that we can arm ourselves with is the knowledge of what is true.   With today's world telling my kids that there is no defined line between good and bad and that most of it is just grey, I plan to arm them with Truth.

How do you step up to pitch after the last batter hits a double off your last pitch? We continue our talk and really get to delve into the Champion mindset with Jeremy Affeldt 3X World Series Champion with the San Francisco Giants. You don't want to miss this one, we go deep. This is a great listen for any young athlete on what the power of a positive mindset looks like and good self talk.

Few people know what it is like to perform under huge pressure like pitching in a World Series game, much less being one of the best ever averages performing in those conditions. The best part is Jeremy can really break things down and tell you just how he prepared himself for those situations.  I am not sure that many athletes at this level have the ability to convey and share how they got there, much less stay playing at that level for so many years. This is part 1 and I split it up so that no one misses out on anything, plus there is so much to soak in that it really needs to be broken up so that you can grasp all of what he shares. Enjoy!

It was a real pleasure to talk with William Tackett, a young phenom in the world of BJJ and NOGI grappling. He just won the West Coast qualifier for ADCC and is on his way to the big show later this year. You are really going to enjoy this one. For one, William is a very well spoken young athlete but what was the most impressive is not only the discipline that he has in his training but also the organization that he has implemented into his program.  This kid is not hitting the high levels of competition by accident, he has a game plan and an eye on what he wants with a plan on how to get there.  Not just in his training but down to his diet and even plans out his days two months in advance to his competitions. He hasn't gotten to where he is by accident. We talk about his journey so far and how he manages and prepares his mental game, not just for a match but also how he resets in between matches. Great interview and insight into the champion mindset of a young man on his way up. Thanks William

My friend Nathan Camacho is an unbelievably good athlete and has an analytical mind like I have rarely seen. We talk about his journey to becoming a  golf instructor with 20+ years of experience and a Jiu Jitsu instructor.   When you first start out to pursue your passion, it is often a selfish endeavor, but the true beauty is in the coming full circle and having the opportunity to help others in their pursuit. It is where joy is found. That is at the heart of a good coach and I see that in Camacho. Nathan Camacho- NAIA All-American 20+ years teaching golf Having multiple juniors finish in top 10 at USKids Golf World Championships, his students participate in USGA"s biggest amateur events. He has taught everyone from beginners to PGA Tour Canada, PGA Tour Latin America and Champions Tour players. There is a lot of insight into the healthy mindset of a competitor in this interview, a really good listen for the parent of the young athlete. It is important to keep in mind the full picture and the end goal when coaching youth and young adults. It is a big responsibility and a good coach has the future of the athlete in mind and not temporary satisfaction.

I love this one, mostly because she was this crazy athlete she was my assistant and saddled and groomed horses for me. Now she is Kris Rugloski: Elite obstacle course/Spartan Racer and has run 9 100 mile ultra marathons, Wold Championship competitor in the International Hyrox Fitness Competition and won the event in Dallas last Saturday. It was really fun to visit with Kris again and discuss her mental toughness and how she has grown in this area of competition. AND how she keeps that smile on her face! I love this kid and have enjoyed watching her grow and experience all that life has to offer. Go Kris!

I love learning about people and their different jobs and Scot has one that you just done hear about every day. Veterinarian Pathologist DVM with 20 years service in the military and now a private pathology practice. Who determines if there has been foul play when an animal dies? When you pet has a tumor, who determines if the tumor is benign? How does the Zoo determine cause of death with one of the animals that is in their care? When we lose a portion on our herd or their are an abnormal number of deaths, how do we find out the cause so that we can protect our livestock and livelihood in the future? The veterinarian pathologist, that's who. Scott has a great story about how he became a veterinarian and how much he feels like he owes back to the horse.  All you horse lovers out there are going to love this one. For a kid who was finally told he wasn't dumb yet smart but just learned different, he finally found his identity in horses and ultimately has become one of approximately 1,500 veterinarian pathologists world wide. Scott feels like he owes so much to the horse for all that they gave to him. Scott's story is one that will inspire and encourage you to not listen to the neigh sayers and believe in yourself and your purpose in creation.  Thanks Scott, and I am excited for all of you guys to listen to this one.

Jackie Hobbs-Crawford has 20 World Championships and now winner of The American as titles to her name. One impressive woman because she is not only a world class roper but a full time mom to boot!  I really enjoyed talking with Jackie.  We talked everything from practice, horsemanship and how she mentally prepares herself for competition to what influence our mothers had on us both.  What an absolutely wonderful example of a champion in every sense of the word. There are some really good gems of advice in here for young woman that are pursuing a career in horses, well, not only in horses but in life in general.

It was a real treat to get to talk with Dale Brisby about what inspired him to get into rodeo.  For a man of many talents and one that has his hands in so many things I wanted to get an idea as to what motivates him and where does he find his purpose in the things that he does.  From being a YouTube sensation with skits like You Ain"t No Cowboy to Thing Cowboys Don't Say, to having a podcast RodeoTime and even having a show on Netflix "How to be a Cowboy", how does the best bull rider ever keep himself grounded. I really enjoyed getting a glimpse of the real cowboy behind the cowboy. I also loved hearing him being unapologetically Christian and talking with him how he leads his crew. Clay returned and we got to visit and hear a recap of his 2021 year in Rodeo.  Clay returned to Canada and qualified in 7 rodeos for the Canadian Championship and in the finals goes from last to first place and wins his second CFR.  We also covered how and what rodeos he runs at to try to qualify for the NFR.  And my favorite part is a lengthy conversation about his horse Skeeter that comes into play when it comes to training, practice and competition.

How do you go from being just a horse crazy kid with no horse to the head farrier for a race horse empire like Ballydoyle, under one of the best race horse trainers in the world like Aiden O'Brien, much less the opportunity to learn under veterinarians at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky? Tune in and find out what his path to success looks like in the farrier industry. The principles of good business apply to all business and opportunities appear to those that are willing to explore the possibilities.

I get the pleasure of visiting with Bill Rogers and discussing his journey to becoming a PGA golfer and how he since has used his experience to pour into others.  One of the fascinating parts of our talk was how Bill saw being in the zone or as he called it, being in the ropes and we discuss the similarities between his sport and equestrian sports.  I got some really good take away info that could be really applicable in the timed event equestrian sports. Lots of stuff in here that you can apply to competition, work and life in general. I really enjoyed my time with Bill and am looking forward to having him back someday soon.

Losing in competition is a tough thing to deal with. It can crush your confidence and get into your head when it comes to the next time that you attempt to compete.  Sometimes it is the main difference between first and 50th place.  The crazy thing is that no matter who you are, even if you are one of the most successful people in your sport, you always lose more than you win.  It all boils down to what do you do with the losing.  What you do with the winning is the easy part.

What I want my kids to know about marriage. Is it just a piece of paper, and if not then what is it? Why is it in the wedding vows the bride is to honor and obey? Why isn't the groom told the same?

I get to talk with my good friend Clint Swindall about Leadership.  Clint has written several books on leadership and positive mindset. He has made a career out of helping others to create a good and positive working environment and teaching good leadership.  We talk a little about his background but also got some insight into just what does good leadership look like and where can we see it.  It may shock you just where you can see good leadership.
