David Dower is a Piano player a composer specialising in original jazz and contemporary music, and has performed widely throughout the UK, Bulgaria, Ireland, France, Malaysia, and Australia. He currently lives in Melbourne and has recently released a new recording that was inspired by his many trips to Bulgaria entitled "Mravka".David stops by to talk about how he became a Jazz pianist, how he came to have an affinity with the music and the musicians in Bulgaria and also how he was able to compose the latest album and incorporate the language and the instrumentation that is unique to Bulgaria. We will also hear a track from Melbourne based group  "The Senegambian Jazz Band. Daniel Gassin is a native Melbournian that has been living n Paris for the past 8 years, he is a composer, a pianist and he also has a new recording out released in April of 2021 called "Change of Heart" with his "Crossover Band."He has kindly taken the time to talk to us about how his new recording, the inspiration behind it and also the great musicians he has chosen to be apart of the "Crossover Band." He also talks about what it is like moving from Melbourne Australia to a melting pot like Paris to become a full time musician and how he was able to make the successful transition into the Paris Jazz scene. In this episode we will also hear new music from Nick Haywood, a Melbourne bassist and composer, he has a new recording out in September 2021 that features his long standing trio of Colin Hopkins on Piano and Niko Schauble on drum who is also the recording engineer on this project. For this recording Nick has teamed up with American vocalist Petra Haden who happens to be the daughter of legendary jazz bassist Charlie Haden. The Australian Jazz and Groove Podcast is back with another season of fine Australian Jazz and Groove music. This Podcast is committed to bringing to the light some of the amazing composers we have in Australia in the jazz and jazz groove vein. This season we will endeavour to bring the latest releases from around the country. Episode #1 of season#2  features Melbourne based pianist and composer James Bowers who has just released his first full recording entitled  “My trio Album” It features James on Piano, bassist Marty Holoubek and Japanese drummer Shun Ishiwaka. Not only does he have this project but James has worked with Angus and Julia stone, Remi, Sex on Toast and Vaudeville Smash and as we listen top tracks off this recording you will hear this diversity in musical palate coming out in the music. We will also hear tracks from the Black Jesus Experience, Melbourne based ten piece band playing a danceable alloy of traditional Ethiopian song and 21st Century grooves.
