The shepherds show us that God will use the poorest of the poor, the despised and frowned upon— regular old folks to do miraculous, God size things! The scripture is clear that every time we disqualify ourselves, we are qualifying ourselves for the work of God, because WE are the kinds of weak people He intends to use. He wants to use you! Simeon shows us how to wait patiently for Jesus. He waited patiently for the first coming of Christ. We must wait patiently for the second coming of Christ. The Holy Spirit also rested on him. Why? Because He was a devout and righteous man. The Holy Spirit is given to those who are devout and seeking the righteousness of God!
