Court Junkie

PodcastOne with Law & Crime

Imagine being wrongfully convicted for a crime you didn't commit, or imagine your child's killer is still on the loose even though there's enough evidence for an arrest. I want to help shine light on the injustices of our judicial system. I delve into court documents, attend trials, and interview those close to the case to help me tell their stories. read less

Our Editor's Take

The Court Junkie podcast offers listeners stories of home invasions, missing people, serial killers, and more. Self-proclaimed true crime addict Jillian Jalali hosts the show. She started writing a blog focussed on unsolved crimes and missing person cases. As the blog became more popular, she grew her project into a podcast.

Jalali does much more than retell stories with the Court Junkie podcast. She also invests a lot of time researching each crime. Episodes include requested documents, interviews from those involved, and plenty of backstories.

As the Court Junkie podcast has grown in popularity, so has Jalali's team of crime staff. She invites team members to contribute, including writers Matt Stroud and Gabrielle Russon. She also has help from Dan Abrams and the Law&Crime website.

With an extensive team in place, the podcast delivers a high level of research and excitement. In the episode "The Suspicious Fire," listeners will hear a 911 call from a woman whose house is on fire. The emotions run high during the call as her husband is still inside. In "Diabolical Husband," Jalali interviews the stepdaughter of serial killer Donnie Rudd. What was he like in person? Did she suspect he was a serial killer?

The Court Junkie podcast is different from other true crime podcasts. The distinguishing piece is that Jalali only discusses cases that have gone to trial. Listeners will hear from those involved as well as audio from the courtroom. Jalali also tells the stories of the R. Kelly trials and the Waukesha Parade attack. In "The Plot to Kidnap the Governor," domestic terrorism is the focus. In these episodes, Jalali examines the charges and trials in detail.

Each episode tells the story of a different case and highlights the injustices along the way. In "The Repeat Offender," Jalali questions whether the justice system failed to protect Kay Baker, a murdered Florida woman. In "The Murder of Sister Margaret Ann Pahl," Jalali examines why the murder of a nun went unsolved for so many years. It's these intriguing details that make each week's Crime Junkie episode so compelling.
