Our Editor's Take

Dr. Kim Hires believes that the world is in a leadership crisis. Globalization has changed the way industries work. Directors need to quickly adapt to this or fall behind. With the help of The Leadership Antidote Podcast, she hopes to ease that transition.

The host calls herself "Dr. Kim" to better connect with her audience. In her opinion, most managers and CEOs still work these days with 40-year-old principles in mind. But these tenets don't apply anymore. For instance, they treat human beings like a liability instead of an asset. Or they have an industrial mindset in the age of entrepreneurship. Her podcast seeks to bring them into the future.

The Leadership Antidote Podcast talks about all the challenges of the current workplace. Those include a multigenerational workforce that has different ways of thinking and communicating. Another obstacle is shrinking budgets. With recent recessions, leaders occupy a "couponing" mentality that has a negative effect on every aspect of the supply chain. The most difficult hurdle that company owners have to face is their mental health. Those outdated principles don't take into account work-life balance. So people who ignore mental health issues have a higher risk of falling back at both the office and at home.

Dr. Kim interviews experts across sectors, countries, and cultures. She talks to heads of industry who are doing things in a different way while still being successful. She tracks down the people who lead with a legacy mindset and asks for their advice. Those include anyone from business consultants to mindfulness coaches.

The host also has her own wisdom to bestow upon the listeners of The Leadership Antidote Podcast. Dr. Kim suffered from work-related stress and anxiety. After reassessing her life, she started a coaching business, The Nightingale Firm. Since then, she's been helping companies of all sizes realize their true potential. Her work focuses on creating better well-being and fostering innovation. Thanks to her expertise, she can give tips on topics like goal setting or accountability. New episodes come out on a periodic basis.

How can we prepare women to authentically step into leadership? Dr. Kim tackles that question with Dr. Marisa Porges.
