It's a thoughtful hmmmmmm.... Has common sense and proven researched brain and age appropriate learning styles our teachers need to be using just taken a U-turn upon seeing the Krispy Kreme "Hot Now" sign lit up on the road to sound educational practices.... and forgotten to leave those wonderful treasures found in the Krispy Kreme shop to find their way back to us?I would love to know your thoughts on the episode topics! Why Early STEM Instruction is Vital for Brain Development and Creativity
How to develop creativity in the classroom should totally be part of your teacher growth and development list. Yes friends, the time has come to say it out loud. It’s not the easiest skill to work on with students at all. Especially if you feel like you aren’t creative yourself, but that’s NOT true. It takes a plan and some active research. We even need to research this topic on a class by class or student by student basis. Why? It is literally something that we have to unlock, and it may take different approaches. But let’s be clear… being creative or teaching others to be creative just means having one thought inspire another thought!Jump into the episode and get the low down on optimizing for brain functioning at different age levels to improve retention and creativity. I simply love studying concepts of how the brain functions to optimize learning in the classroom. For sure, we all need to dig into it more! The 4 C’s for 21st Century Learning are: CreativityCritical thinkingCollaborationCommunicationYour lesson goals should be to strive for these concepts to be included in your lessons as much as possible! But we don’t always know how to include these in our lessons and especially how to develop creativity. I know you believe creativity is something you have or don’t have, but it’s developed. Yours can be developed, too. Here’s a little something to help you out in the classroom: STEAM Concepts Posters

Design Thinking in the Classroom: Set it Up Series 3
Design Thinking in the classroom actually came to me later than the Engineering Design Process. I must say, I like it a lot! It’s like the cool older brother of the design processes. It doesn’t matter which one of these you use in the classroom when it comes to creating and designing with students. It does matter how you… SET IT UP as a routine for elementary students. Welcome to the Set It Up Series… Episode 3! When it comes to Design Thinking in the classroom, you know, ideas lead to other ideas. We may have to go back to defining the problem. We may even have to go back to ideation from testing. It’s all okay! There is so much flexibility within the design process. Life lessons here will come ten-fold. Every idea counts. Get weird. We can thank the peeps over at IDEO who started this whole thing for us!One of my favorite resources and avenues for creation is Maker’s Empire. Students can use this application to create 3D print designs. You don’t have to do that if you aren’t ready, but go grab some of there handy Design Thinking resources and guides! You will love them! Using this STEAM guide you can start to see how all the design processes can work in a STEAM cultured classroom! Grab it and get started!
